Earl of Billington and Miss Lyndon

Earl of Billington and Miss Lyndon
Chapter 07

"I'm sorry, but I think you're the one who showed up in my life."

Charles chuckles. "Did I mention that you're so funny? So I thought, 'Ah, she'll definitely fit in on everything, ' and..."

"If you're trying to persuade me," Ellie interjected sharply, "I'm telling you, you didn't make it."

"It doesn't seem like it" said Charles. "Really, you're the first woman I think I can stand." Instead, Charles thought, He would devote his entire life to his partner. She needs nothing from a wife except her name on the marriage certificate. But still, if you have to spend some time with a wife, it is better to choose the best. And Miss Lyndon seems to fit that criteria.

And, continued Charles in his heart, in the end he must have offspring. Better to find a smart woman. He wants his descendants to be brilliant brained. Charles looked at Ellie again. The woman looked at him suspiciously. Yes, this woman is smart.

There's something very interesting about this woman. Charles had a feeling that the process of making the offspring would be as good as it turned out to be. He bowed to Ellie excitedly while clutching his elbow for a buffer.

"How about, Miss Lyndon? Can we do it?"

"Can we do it?" Ellie asked in disbelief. Really, this was not at all the kind of proposal he wanted.

"Hmmm, I'm so careless. To be honest, Miss Lyndon, I think if someone was looking for a wife, that woman should be the one she likes. We should spend more time."

Ellie looked at Charles in disbelief. What drunk is this guy? Ellie cleared her throat several times, trying to speak. Finally without a second thought, he said, "Do you want to say that you like me?"

Charles smiled seductively. "Very."

"I have to think again."

Charles tilted his head. "I also don't want to marry someone who takes decisions like this quickly."

"I might need a few days."

"I hope not too long. I only had fifteen days before my annoying cousin Phillip started sticking his paws in my money."

"I remind you, my answer is most likely no."

Charles quiet. Ellie has a bad feeling that this man has started to think who the next woman is if Ellie rejects him.

After a while, Charles said. "Do you want me to take you home?"

"no need. From here just a few minutes. I think you can walk on your own from here?"

Charles nodded. "Miss Lyndon."

Ellie bowed little. "Lord Billington." Then he turned around and walked away, waiting until the man could no longer see him before leaning against the wall of one of the buildings and saying silently, "Yes, God!"

Mr Reverend. Lyndon would not accept the attitude of his daughter who said the name of his God without any intention, but Ellie was still amazed by Lord Billington's proposal so he still continued to mumble, "Yes, God," when he passed the front door of his house.

"A young woman should not say that, even if she is no longer young" said a woman's voice.

Ellie groaning. The only person worse off than his father when it comes to moral issues is his father's fiancee, the recently widowed Sally Foxglove. Ellie smiled stiffly as she continued walking straight towards her room. "Mrs. Foxglove."

"Your father wouldn't like it when he hears about this."

Ellie groaned again. Feeling trapped, he turned around. "About what, Mrs. Foxglove's?"

"On the treatment of the name of our Lord that you do not use properly." Mrs. Foxglove stood up and crossed her fat hands.

Ellie almost reminds the woman that she is not her mother and has absolutely no right to rule Ellie, but Ellie holds her tongue. Life won't get any easier after her father gets married. There is no need to make it worse by directly antagonizing Mrs. Foxglove. Taking a breath, Ellie put her hands to her chest in a feigned manner of innocence. "Is that what you heard?" ellie asked, making her voice sound stunned.

"What exactly are you saying?"

Mrs. Foxglove looked at him with an obviously incredulous look.

"So I was misjudging, er, something" Ellie continued. "I still can't believe I thought that. That's why I said, 'Ah, it turns out, ' because, you know, I thought of something, and if I hadn't thought of it, I wouldn't have done anything wrong with my logic."

Mrs. Foxglove was so confused by the explanation that Ellie wanted to cheer up.

"Well, whatever it is," said the older woman finally, "that kind of weird behavior won't get you a husband."

"How can you turn into that topic?" grumbled Ellie, feeling that today the topic of marriage is too often discussed.

"Your life is twenty-three" continued Mrs. Foxglove. "To be precise, spinster, but I think we can find a man who's willing to take you."

Ellie ignored. "Is my dad home?"

"He was out on a visit, and asked me to stay here to receive members of the congregation who might visit."

"He let you take over?"

"I'll be his wife in two months' time." Mrs. Foxglove rubbed and tidied her brown skirt. "I have a social position to keep."

Ellie muttered obscure words quietly. He was worried that if his words were really clear, he would say worse than calling the name of God without any purpose. Ellie sighed softly and tried to smile. "I'll excuse you, Mrs. Foxglove. I feel so tired and I want to rest in my room."

A fat hand landed on Ellie's shoulder. "Let's go, Deliana."

Ellie turned. What Mrs. Foxglove is threatening "Sorry?"

"We have a problem to talk about. I guess now's a good time while your dad's not home."

"What problems can we not talk about in front of papa?"

"This concerns your position in my household."

Ellie's mouth was wide open. "my position in your household?"

"When I marry a good reverend, then this house will be my home, and I will arrange it as I see fit."

Suddenly Ellie felt nauseous.

"Don't you think you can live as you please under my rules" Mrs said. Foxglove without mercy.

Ellie did not move at all, afraid she would strangle her future stepmother.

"If you don't get married and leave, then you have to show that you deserve to live here" Mrs said. Foxglove

"Do you want me to say that I have to do more than what I've done here?"

Ellie remembered all the duties she had always done to her father and the congregation. He cooked for his father three times a day. He feeds the poor. He even rubbed the church chairs. No one could have said that he didn't deserve to live there.

But it looks like Mrs. Foxglove did not hold the same opinion, because the woman rolled her eyes and said, "You live from the mercy of your father. He's spoiling you too much."

Ellie's eyes widened. One thing is absent from Mr. Reverend. Lyndon was his indulgent demeanor. His father had even tied his older sister up so as not to marry the man he loved. Ellie cleared her throat to quell her anger. "What exactly do you want me to do, Mrs. Foxglove's?"

"I've checked around the house and made a to-do list."
