Earl of Billington and Miss Lyndon

Earl of Billington and Miss Lyndon
Chapter 20

"Never in my whole life have I had trouble seducing women."

"I believe."

"Especially the woman who agreed to marry me."

"I thought I was the only one who got that honor."

"Look, Deliana," said Charles, his tone began to sound impatient. "We both need this marriage. Don't tell me you don't need it. I've met Mrs. Foxglove. I know what's waiting for you at home."

Ellie sighs. Charles knew the difficulties he was facing. Mrs. Foxglove and her chatty mouth were already waiting for him.

"And" Charles added in annoyance. "What do you mean by 'You believe' that you have no problem seducing women."

Ellie looked at him as if Charles was stupid. "Absolutely. I trust you. You must know that you're very handsome."

Charles saw no idea how to retaliate. Ellie herself was quite satisfied that she was at a loss for words. Ellie continued, "And you're quite charming."

Charles looked radiant. "You think so?"

"Too charming" Ellie added, narrowing her eyes. "So it's hard to distinguish between your sincere praise and the one you're making."

"Just say everything is sincere" said Charles, shaking his hand, "and we can be equally happy."

"You're happy."

"You'll be happy too. Believe it."

"believe in you? Huh! Beautiful London women who only take care of clothes and makeup may be able to trust you easily, but I'm much smarter to be able to trust you just like that."

"I know," Charles replied. "That's why I married you."

"About that," Charles murmured, completely disliking the way Ellie twisted her words but could not find a way to reply back.

Now, Ellie was really laughing, and Charles didn't like it. "Stop it" Charles ordered. "Stop it now."

"Oh, I can't" Ellie said gasping. "really"

"Deliana, I'll say one more time..."

When Ellie turned to reply, but then she looked towards the road. "But.yeah, Lord! Watch the way!"

"I did notice ja..."

Whatever Charles wanted to say was interrupted when the horse-drawn carriage they were riding tripped over a large tree root, making it roll to the side, and threw both passengers to the ground.

Charles groaned as his body slammed into the ground, feeling a sting of pain in all his bones, muscles, even all the hair all over his body.

Half a second later Ellie landed on it like a big sack of spiced potatoes.

Charles closed his eyes, wondering if he could still have children, even wondering if he would try.

"Ow!" ellie shouts while rubbing her shoulders.

Charles was eager to reply, perhaps with something that sounded sarcastic, but he could not speak. His ribs hurt so much that he was sure that if he spoke, all of his ribs would fall out. After a moment that felt almost a lifetime, Ellie rolled up from Charles by putting her sharp elbow in the vulnerable part under Charles' left kidney.

"I can't believe you didn't see such a big root" Ellie said, revealing a haughty expression even as she managed to sit on the ground.

It felt like Charles wanted to strangle her, muzzle her mouth, even kiss her so that the annoying expression was erased from Ellie's face. But eventually Charles just lay there, still trying to breathe.
