Earl of Billington and Miss Lyndon

Earl of Billington and Miss Lyndon
Chapter 17

Ellie turned towards him, her hands ruffled. "Why did you say that?"

"What's? About hair? Oh, because I love teasing you. Are you feeling embarrassed?"

"Of course not. In these three days, surprisingly, I'm getting used to your outrageous way of speaking."

"Then what's the problem?"

"You made me blush" Ellie grumbled.

"It's like you said you were used to my words."

"Indeed. But that doesn't mean I won't hear it."

Charles blinked and looked next to Ellie, as if talking to an imaginary friend. "What's he talking about? Really, I don't think I really understand this conversation."

"Did you hear what he said about my hair?" ask Ellie. "He said 'We never know what we should do.' he said. It was as if he had been in my life for years. As if I would give him a place."

"Then...?" ask Charles.

"I wanted to stab him with my gaze, slap him with my pain, shoot him with... What are you doing?"

"Because my face was blushing, I couldn't do it" Ellie grumbled. "How could I stare at him ferociously if my cheeks were like the color of a boiled crab? Now she doesn't know how angry I am at her."

"Oh, I think he knows," Charles gasped, still amused at Ellie's attempts to get angry.

"I doubt I agree with this attitude of yours to my distress."

"You're suspicious? It doesn't seem to." Charles reached out and gently rubbed the tip of Ellie's lips. "I think your expression is very clear."

Ellie didn't know what to say, and she hated not knowing what to say, so she just folded her hands and made a noise like, "Hmmmph."

Charles breathed in an exaggerated manner. "Are you going to act like this all day? Because if so, I happened to bring the Times newspaper for our picnic, and I can certainly read it quietly while you look at the scenery and think of the fifty ways you would do it to your future stepmother."

Ellie's jaw dropped, but she managed to take control of herself and retaliated. "As far as you know, I have eighty ways, and I don't mind if you want to read, as long as I get a financial page." Ellie smiled a little.

Charles chuckled softly as he offered his arm to Ellie. "Actually, I was planning to check my investment, but I don't mind sharing it with you."

Ellie thought how close they would sit next to each other to read the paper together on a picnic blanket. "Of course not" Ellie grumbled. Then Ellie felt a bit stupid, because such a statement certainly meant to seduce her, and Ellie was quite sure that women must have been confused in the minds of Cahrles. Oh, Charles is going to marry Ellie, but Ellie has a suspicion that she was chosen because it was easy to get. After all, Charles himself had already told her that he only had less than two weeks to find a bride.

Charles seemed to enjoy kissing Ellie, but he probably enjoyed kissing any woman, except Mrs. Foxglove. And he has also explained the main reason why they have to be in a husband-wife relationship. Was that the time he said? Ah, that a man in his position should have a descendant.
