Earl of Billington and Miss Lyndon

Earl of Billington and Miss Lyndon
Chapter 19

"It should have been Wycombe Abbey could have had other mentions besides 'big pile of rocks'" Ellie reflexed. He has always appreciated the beautiful architectural masterpieces, and Wycombe Abbey is one of the most beautiful buildings in the district.

Charles looked at Ellie sharply. "The building would really be a huge pile of rocks if I didn't have the funds to take care of it."

Ellie had a feeling that Charles was warning her. She would be very upset if Ellie backed out of this marriage. Without a doubt, this man could make Ellie's life hell if she wanted to, and Ellie had the feeling, if Ellie left him at the altar, that alone was enough to motivate Charles to devote his life to destroying Ellie's life.

"You don't have to worry" Ellie said flatly. "I have never and will never want to deny my words."

"I'm glad to hear it, My Lord."

Ellie frowning. Charles did not sound at all relieved. It even sounds more complacent. Ellie was wondering why this was bothering her so much when Charles continued his words.

"You should know something about me, Deliana."

Ellie turned towards him with her eyes wide open.

"I may often take life as a joke, but I can be very serious if I want to."

"I'm sorry?" Then Ellie bit her lip for saying that word.

"I'm not the guy you want to face."

Ellie backwards. "Are you threatening me?"

"My future wife?" charles said flat. "Of course not."

"I think you're threatening me. And I don't like that."

"Oh, huh?" said Charles. "Do you think?"

"I think" Ellie said, "I'd rather you're drunk."

Charles laughing. "I'm easier to control, huh? You don't like it when you can't be in control."

"And you like it?"

Ellie watched him with doubt. "It or kill each other."

"That's possible" said Charles, rubbing his chin. "I hope our position is aligned if this is the case."

"What exactly are you talking about?"

Charles smiled softly, "I can shoot quite sharp. How's yours?"

Ellie gawking. He was so stunned that he couldn't say, "I'm sorry."

"That's a joke, Deliana."

Ellie closed her mouth again. "Of course," he said in an annoyed tone. "I know that."

"Of course."

Ellie began to feel emotions running high inside her, Charles' frustration at times leaving her speechless. "My shots are rarely clear-cut," he replied, a stiff smile adorning his lips. "But I'm really good with knives."

Charles made a choking sound until he had to cover his own mouth.

"And my steps don't make a sound." Ellie leaned forward, her smile looking sly, aware that she was beginning to regain control. "You might have to lock the door every night."

Charles leaned forward, his eyes sparkling. "But, my dear, I just want your door unlocked. Every night."

Ellie felt her body warm. "You promised..."

"And you promise," Charles moved closer and closer until their noses touched each other, "to let me try to seduce you whenever I wanted."

"Oh, for the sake of Saint Peter," Ellie said with great contempt until Charles backed away in confusion. "Truly the most inconsequential words I've ever heard in a full sentence."

Charles glares. "Do you insult me?"

"Well, obviously I'm not praising you" Ellie snorted. "Letting you try to seduce me, ' is that right? I promise you you can try it. But I never said that I would 'let it go'."
