Once upon a time, there were rumors of a terrible king punishing his own son. The rumors were actually first spread by a group mourning the birth of the Crown Prince which was predicted to bring great disaster.
Not knowing who spread it, but the people cursed the birth of the Crown Prince or Prince Hyeon who was known as a prince who was very haughty and arrogant, stupid, not painstaking and always broke the king's orders. Rumors of the Crown Prince's incompetence spread further after his father King Baek Sam ordered him to be punished.
Eighteen years ago, the well-known and affectionate queen was rumored to be soon to give birth to a son, the legitimate son of King Baek Sam. That's when, this story, begins.
The Birth of the Child
At that moment, there were laughter and crying that went hand in hand. Perhaps, that love has grown in a locked corner far away. But, is it possible that happiness comes with it?
“Mr Princess.. don't run, you can get hurt."
The eunuchs (Male servants) and the palace lady-in-waiting continue to chase after Princess Shin, the first child of King Baek Sam.
“Mr Princess, stop running!"
Princess Shin ignored her and just kept running towards the queen's palace. In front of the palace, the king and several ministers and the royal family were worried.
“Ayahanda!” the cry of little princess Shin broke the atmosphere.
“Will my sister be born soon? Is he a man?"
The princess's twinkling eyes made the king crisp. He then sat down and held the shoulder of the child who looked so happy.
“Are you looking forward to seeing your sister?” ask the father with a friendly smile.
“Yes, Father."
“Then, go back to your room, and pray that your sister is born safely. After that, come back here and bring him a present."
Princess Shin smiled, she steadily ran back to her room carrying everything she had arranged neatly. The servants followed him. Shortly after, the king looked at the sky, his forehead starting to wrinkle.
“Your Highness, what do you think?” ask one of them.
“Do you believe in divination? I mean, do you think the prophecy is true?” ask the king with his serious face.
Someone was silent. The sky looks dark and so dark. The wind blew so hard that the royal flag flew in the air.
Seeing the king seem so worried, someone approached him and saluted him.
“What are you so worried about? I'm sorry for being so presumptuous, Your Majesty. If I may, I would like to express my opinion. I think it's just a prophecy that's not necessarily the truth. Everything that happens is the will of the Almighty. We cannot know what His plan will be."
The king's body trembled. Cold sweat kept dripping from the corner of his forehead. Making him try to erase the reality that started to poison his mind.
“Lee – Tae - Hwon."
The king spelled the name of the person with an unhappy face.
”What is your rank as country advisor, making you feel worthy to teach me?”
Hearing the king's reply, the state adviser, Mr. Lee Tae Hwon felt guilty and lowered his gaze. He kept his fear tight.
Suddenly,
“Your Highness!"
An officer ran from far away, looking almost out of breath.
“How dare you come to see me like this, huh?!"
“I'm sorry Your Majesty, but, I got word from the bureau, that it looks like there's going to be a storm tonight. For that, I came here waiting for your orders."
“Go away, don't ruin my current thoughts!” The king's orders made the ministers shudder.
Not long after, the court healers came out from the queen's residence. Their faces looked very sorry.
“What happened? Quickly tell me!”
While pulling the collar of a healer the king's face looked full of anxiety.
“Your Majesty, forgive us. We'll do our best. Currently.”
The doctors looked at each other.
“ ... Currently the condition of the queen does not allow to give birth to a child. But it looks like she has to give birth today. For that, let us do various ways to save him."
Hearing the news, the king removed his hand from the healer's collar, trying to control the anger that was at the end of his head. His breath was decapitated, shortly after which the king's body went limp and he fell to the ground. The ministers approached and carried his body to get up. The servants and palace attendants ran around looking for water and warm blankets for the king.
Elsewhere, Princess Shin stretched her blanket across the terrace of her residence. He looked at the sky with a smile and began to close his eyes. Very peaceful. The beauty of that night seemed to be in his grasp, making him drown with all the expectations he had set. The longer, the happier he is. His smile grew wider followed by a gust of wind that was indeed so strong.
“What are you doing?"
“Ah, Mother? Come sit next to me,” Princess Shin smiled at her and then closed her eyes again.
The woman tried to dispel her desire to be more friendly.
“What are you doing on this cold and horrible night?” ask the woman.
Princess Shin then opened her eyes while still carrying a cheerful smile on her face.
“I was praying, Mother,” Princess Shin explained to her mother with a friendly smile.
Princess Shin was the king's first child and the first princess of the kingdom from a king's chief concubine, named Seol.
Why, are you doing this to me?
“What are you praying for? Forgetting your bedtime?."
The woman kept looking at him. A sharp gaze seemed to measure his level of worry.
“I'm praying for my queen and sister."
Princess Shin then closed her eyes again and prayed again.
Hearing the child's reply, the concubine who had been smiling slowly changed her facial expression. He looked at the princess's face. Trying to gather his love.
Why do you always hurt my heart with that smile?
“Come in, pray for him from the inside. This wind, it'll only make you sick and it'll be troublesome."
After a long wait, there was no news from the queen's palace that made Princess Shin so worried.
“Mother, do you think the queen and my sister will be okay? Why have I not seen them back?” ask the child worriedly.
The concubine who was preparing for bed then stopped. He tries to turn himself away from reality. About the expectations he had set, he built it to come back a little closer to the situation.
“I don't know,” without seeing her son's face, the woman then lay down and closed her eyes to sleep while stroking her stomach.
“What's the time of giving birth to me, Mom is fine?”.
Hearing the child's question, he opened his eyes. For a moment, Seol fell silent and his gaze fell on the stomach he was touching.
“Yes, Mom should be fine."
...****************...
Time shows at 11 p.m.
Suddenly the sound of gongs from the palace sounded so loud to the corners of the village. The citizens are running. That gong, brought two tidings at once. News of the birth of a prince and news of a storm. The people were busy giving thanks, after which they were ordered to close all the doors and windows. Bring the whole pitcher in, and put it near them. The same night, the king distributed rice to the people as gratitude as well as preparation in case of a storm.
From the queen's palace, haru's cries sounded earthy. The king turned cheerful. At least a little hope began to surface. The king approached and carried the baby. He looked at his son for a long time. Shortly after, the doctors returned.
“How is my wife?” ask the king worriedly.
“Your Highness, earlier, we congratulate you because you have a handsome and intelligent prince. Not only was he so handsome, he would be a brilliant successor."
.. But, their faces even looked like someone who was suffering.
Seeing the faces of the healers who looked so sorry, made the king suspicious of what had really happened. He can't hold it anymore. All the anger he was holding led him to lay his son to a servant and pull the physician's collar, and lift him up.
“Tell me! What really happened?!” ask king.
“Queen, queen, the state of the queen is increasingly alarming, forgive us Your Majesty,” said the healers were frightened.
The king then removed his hand from the healer's collar. The entire frightened physician, curled up at the king's feet, begged for mercy.
“Save the queen, or your life instead!”
“Bb-good Your Highness, Fine. We'll do our best. We excuse.”
The doctors then returned in a hurry.
At the same time, from the other side of the palace, concubines came to the king to congratulate him. Seol, the first-rate concubine (the highest-ranking concubine) enters the queen's room to see the prince who has been born. He approached the crying prince and then boldly, Seol carried him.
“How's his mother doing?” seol asked the nurse who was on guard.
“Your Majesty the Queen is currently in a very worrisome state.”
Seol then looked at the prince's face deeply.
You're very lucky Her Majesty the Queen, gave birth to a son. He will definitely grow into the person you want him to be. It's a pity Your Majesty, you've become weak even after having a prince. Shouldn't you, you survive?
