Chapter 3
Nia glanced at her watch. Almost 5pm. The train from Tanjungbalai station departed at 12.15 WIB, and according to the time stated on the ticket, will arrive shortly at Medan station.
Sure enough, not long after, the sound of a notification from the loudspeaker inside the train echoed, giving information that the train had arrived at Medan station.
Passengers on the train stood up from their seats, picking up their luggage and bags placed on top of their luggage. Due to the heavy passengers this weekend, Nia chose to sit first, letting the other passengers get off first by lining up neatly waiting their turn.
The four-hour journey from his hometown to the capital of North Sumatra is considered quite entertaining.
Inside the train full AC and quite calm makes Nia feel comfortable and cool looking at the natural scenery outside the window which is dominated by a row of trees along the way on the tracks. Also seen rice fields that are spread with houses thatched roofs. Once in a while, it appears that urban areas are crowded by traffic of various vehicles when the train arrives at a certain station.
But all the crowds in the urban area all the stations that pass through it, there is no one as crowded as the last station, Medan.
Nia got up from her seat, taking her big bag from the top of the luggage that was above the passenger seat by the window. As the passengers who lined up down began to quiet, Nia moved her body to the side, overtaking the other passengers.
His steps retraced above the ground, descending from the carriage which was quite high. He followed the steps of another passenger who was walking again towards the exit gate.
There are two rows on the left-right of the exit gate filled by the bettor puller brothers. They call passengers who just arrived, offering services to deliver to the destination.
Nia stood worriedly near the exit gate. Where is Om Vishnu who said he would pick him up when he arrived in Medan? What if Vishnu forgets? He could be straying in this big city, plus Nia also has no other family in Medan. So, where is he going?
Nia's eyes searched outside the gate. Looking for a man in his 40s who wears a black t-shirt and white pants as promised earlier. Nia herself was already wearing black and white clothing stellan as mutually agreed.
His eyes stopped looking as he saw a hand waving in the distance. The hands of a middle-aged man who tried to be raised to be seen by passengers who had just arrived.
Nia came out of the main gate and tried to approach the waving man. Oops! It seems that it is Om Vishnu. His face was a bit old but still felt familiar in Nia's memory.
Moreover, the clothes stellan is a black shirt and white trousers. Her distinctive smile and mustache made it hard for Nia to forget her old neighbor. No more wrong! That is Om Vishnu!
In a hurry, Nia walked closer and closer until now she was beside the waveguide. “Om... Om.. Om Vishnu!” call Nia who is already standing next to him, but it seems that Om Vishnu's eyes are less alert, because he is still looking at the main gate.
The man called Om Vishnu turned to the girl who called his name. “O-o! You, Nia, yes?!” jumped men almost half a century but still looks handsome and charismatic with his thin mustache.
“Yes, Om! It's me, Nia!” nia's smile with lips expanded. Relieved that his heart had met with Om Vishnu. Previously, his heart was worried in case Om Vishnu forgot to pick him up because of important work.
“O-o, you are indeed Nia! Sweet Nia who used to be a child, now it's big!” exclaim Om Vishnu while hitting Nia's arm. Excited, the punch was thrown hard enough to make Nia grimace.
“Ups! Sori, sori, Om Vishnu is too excited and happy to forget to control themselves!” crispy laugh.
“Iya, Om, it's okay,” Nia said with a faint smile.
“Mari-mari, hop in the car Om!” take him to Nia Samibl to help carry Nia's big bag.
Nia followed Om Vishnu's footsteps towards the parking lot. Quite far Nia walked just up to where Om Vishnu's car was.
“Sori yes, Nia, so it must be a long way because Om chose a parking lot that is a bit far and not jammed. Come on, just get in the car!” the Om Vishnu.
Nia nodded and climbed into the latest Pajero Sport car in shiny black. It feels comfortable in the car. Nia sat next to Om Vishnu who was driving her own car.
Although not knowing at all the addresses in Medan, at least by asking later he will be able to answer if at any time asked anyone, “In Medan you live where?”
“Oh, Om lives in Graha Helvetia villa, Nia. Nia ever been there?” back to asking Om Vishnu.
“Hahaha. Don't go there, Om. To Medan alone Nia has never been,” replied the girl while fixing the location of her hair that was hit by the wind earlier. His long hair was flicked back.
Secretly, Om Vishnu watched the young girl and admired her dandyism.
The little girl of his neighbor's son is now grown up. Looks beautiful and soft. Her ayu and sweet face makes Om Vishnu feel useless inviting him from afar. It must be Ardian, his son would glance at this girl of his childhood friend. Liking, falling in love, then listening to his advice or words. Om Wisnu hopes, Nia can help him bring Ardian back to be “anak baik”.
The Pajero Sport car was driving slowly cleaving the highway in the city of Medan which was very crowded and crowded by various types of vehicles in the afternoon.
When the clock comes home from work, is during rush hour which is a big city like Medan is sure to be crowded traffic. Especially at night and when night falls, the more crowded the vehicles downstream-mudik want to various places of entertainment scattered throughout the urban area. In fact, it will still be crowded when the night gets late, where visitors will return to their respective homes from getting entertainment in malls, restaurants, film studios, karaoke, amusement parks, and so on, playgrounds, to various pojasera arenas in countless open spaces throughout the city of Medan.
That said, this city is very famous for its culinary tours are delicious matchless. In fact, a variety of snacks can be enjoyed at various prices, ranging from cheap on the fifth foot, which is affordable in dozens of pujasera, malls, to the exclusive in luxury restaurants.
Nia's eyes looked out the car window. The traffic flow from the train station remains congested and jammed on every road. Even in certain places such as at red light junctions or four-way junctions, the congestion is getting worse. The sound of car horns, motorcycles, and angkot is sometimes heard when each feels sultry and there are vehicles that move a little slowly.
Nia looked at the traffic jam she was walking through with a look of amazement. Large, spacious, and grand malls, high-rise office buildings, luxury skyscraper hotels, are all in the city center, although they are also scattered in every corner of the city.
When the car driven by Om Vishnu turned for the last time, he said, “This is a well-known private university where Ardian, Nia, lectures,” tell Om Vishnu while next to his hand pointing to the magnificent spacious building that is on the edge of the big road.
Nia noticed the campus building in question. It just so happened that the flow of the vehicle was a bit jammed, so Nia could take a longer look around.
The campus looks big and grand. Like several levels with the division of faculties on each side of the building. Nia was amazed. He never thought he would be able to go to college there.
He thought he would stay in his hometown after high school, working in a bakery or clothing store perhaps with a small salary and monotonous days. Tanjungbalai is without entertainment venues such as large malls and film studios scattered in shopping centers. Although there are already several three-star hotels that are quite luxurious with restaurants in it. But it cannot be compared to the city of Medan as the provincial capital.
“Wah, the campus is big and magnificent, Om,” chirps Nia.
“Betul, Nia. Later Nia will also study here with Ardian, although different levels.”
“What's this, Om?” nia asked as their car passed by a tall building that looked like it was being worked on in a very large area. The area and height seem to even surpass the nearby five-star hotel, but are located in the opposite direction of the tall building.
“Oh, this will be the newest and grandest building in the city of Medan later, Nia, after Sun Plaza and Centre Point. There will be many luxury apartments built here, as well as all kinds of hotels, restaurants, malls, pujasera, and so on. Complete!”
“Oh, amazing once, Om!” Nia reaction.
”Iya, Nia. Such is the city of Medan in this millennial century.”
Om Vishnu and Nia continued to talk along the way to the residence of Om Vishnu in Graha Helvetia. The distance from the train station to the house of Om Vishnu is actually not so far away, but because of the heavy traffic flow and traffic jams everywhere, it makes the trip feel long.
But because Nia was in a cool and big car, she did not feel hot or impatient. Even he enjoyed every second of his journey through the city of Medan to get to the destination.
