In the Qur'an, Allah SWT ordered to man that if it is your duty to pay the debt. As Allah SWT said in Surat Al Baqarah verse 282:

يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْٓا اِذَا تَدَايَنْتُمْ بِدَيْنٍ اِلٰٓى اَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى فَاكْتُبُوْهُۗ وَلْيَكْتُبْ بَّيْنَكُمْ كَاتِبٌۢ بِالْعَدْلِۖ وَلَا يَأْبَ كَاتِبٌ اَنْ يَّكْتُبَ كَمَا عَلَّمَهُ اللّٰهُ فَلْيَكْتُبْۚ 

Meaning: O you who believe, if you do not give in cash for the appointed time, write it down. And let a writer among you write it right. And let not the writer refuse to write it as God has taught it, so let him write it. (QS. Al Baqarah: 282).'' explained Eve

'' Mother is as good as paying while we can still breathe in this world. Do not let our debt, it will be brought to death. Because the person who does not pay off his debt in the world, it will not go into Heaven.

People who die but still have debt dependents then do not go to heaven. The Prophet said:

عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَنْ فَارَقَ الرُّوحُ الْجَسَدَ وَهُوَ بَرِيءٌ مِنْ ثَلَاثٍ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ مِنْ الْكِبْرِ وَالْغُلُولِ وَالدَّيْنِ

"Whoever, when his soul parted with his body, was free of three things, will go to heaven; arrogant, stealing ghanimah before it is divided and debt."(HR. Ibn Majah) [No. 2412 Maktabatu Al Maarif Riyadh] Shahih.''

Many people today collect debt like beggars. What we are paying for is our own money. But who have debt is even more fierce, than who owes. Things like this happen all around us. So that's why we have to rethink if we want to owe someone else
