The Way Back Home's
Help

Ruberu smiled again, a knotty smile. Either show a mockery or a sense of pleasure. “Olivia's name is indeed listed in the list of victims of excavation of historic sites. He was actually one of the members of the magic board of the research division. The magic board suspected him. Unfortunately, before the police checked him, he was killed.” Farrell and Remy exchanged looks. Ruberu continued, “Your guess may have a point.”

“This is crazy..” whispered Remy. “I meet Emily every day and never realize they have two. We thought he only had a double personality.”

Farrell chose not to respond to Remy's remarks. Actually Christo told his friends that Emily had two personalities. Farrell now captures the impression that Christo wants to help cover up Emily's identity. It could be that the private portal Emily gave her was the silent wage.

“How about your father?” ask Ruberu again. He seems interested in checking out other things as well. “I'm sure you also said that he was innocent.”

“My father is not a murderer. Do you also know about my father's case?”

“Eden's name is quite famous here, Farrell. Especially after your father got hit with a case. Who does not know Alan Eden? He's the innkeeper with the portal to the upper world. Special lodge. One day, a fat man called the police and asked for help, saying he was going to be killed. By the time the police arrived, this man was dead. Killed in inn room Eden’s Lodge. Your father, Alan Eden, was standing next to the victim with his hands covered in blood. Victim's name is Barren Trow. Does this name mean anything to you?”

Farrell shook his head. “Ngak.”

“Just learn. This incident is long enough.”

Farrell changed the subject about mom. “What about my mother? Can you help me?” sahut Farrell fast.

“I need to remind you again, the accusations you reported against Denise are abuse of magic. That needs in-depth research. Capturing Denise without clear evidence is impossible.”

“Denise poisoned my mother. You could die if you don't get the antidote in time. I intend to obey Denise but I'm not sure Denise will keep her promise.”

“Then, I suggest you better find your own antidote.”

Farrell knew he shouldn't rely on Ruberu. The police will not move as quickly as they want. He was in a weak position, a nobody and had nothing here. Not like Vincent. “You know where Vincent Elioscavea is? Maybe he can help me make the antidote.”

“I repeatedly heard his name. But, I have never met in person.”

Farrell's hopes were again dashed. He could only be quiet now. In her little heart, there was doubt that Denise had a cure. Didn't Denise want to finish off the Eden family from the beginning? If that were true, even if Denise did have an antidote, she still wouldn't have handed them the antidote.

“A— What's your plan now, Farrell?”

Farrell just shook his head slowly accompanied by a long sigh. For the first time in his life, he felt so helpless. The way out is only one. Submit a certificate and trust Denise. “Isn't the answer clear?”

“Ka— You will hand Eden’s Lodge to him?”

“We have a choice?” Farrell said softly, as if he did not want to say it.

Remy shakes.

“By the way.. Looks like someone is looking for you.” Ruberu looked up at the darkness of the night. “This poor bird keeps circling above us. Pet white owl Eden’s Lodge.” Ruberu waved her hand. The sky above them opened a small hole. After the white owl entered it, the hole closed again as if it had never been there.

Remy's eyes caught the white shadow that was approaching them. An owl. He knows exactly who it is. “Gizmo!” yells. “Actually, Gizmo pet Christo, not Eden’s Lodge.”

Gizmo flew low towards Remy and landed on the water pump not far from where Farrell was standing. He rushed over and unrolled the letter at the foot of the owl. “From William!” yell again. The first line of the letter spread a series on his face. He threw a glance at Farrell who looked back at him anxiously. “You won't like this,” he whispered softly. “Denise holds your mother again. Jim and Joe beat up Christo. William asked.... What will you do?” Remy mentioned the last sentence more slowly. He doesn't want to put more weight on Farrell.

Farrell just looked down, he was getting moody from the news.

Remy came down. He let Farrell dissolve into thought without daring to take him on a journey. Unlike Farrell, he had nothing at stake here. The thing that suppressed him was only guilt. There is no denying that Denise's plan is working because Remy is following it. He had indeed apologized to Farrell and Farrell seemed to have no problem with it. Even so, in his little heart, Remy just hopes Farrell is angry or even hit him. Maybe it alleviated his guilt a little.

As the two thought, Ruberu cleared her throat. “So, Denise wasn't just abusing magic, eh? He seems to be doing a kidnapping right now. I think magic abuse and kidnapping are two different things. Kidnapping must be dealt with immediately. Now the story is different.”

Farrell catches the police's intent. “We can report Denise for different things.”

“True. I can help you change the investigation report. But, we can't just raid the inn just like that. Denise has a hostage. He is dangerous and can do something. We have to be careful if we want to catch him.” Ruberu pointed at the paper in Remy's hand. “Letter from your friend can be evidence even if it is not so strong.”

Farrell looked into Ruberu's gray eyes. He is sure at this moment. “You'll help me help mom and Eden’s Lodge.”

“Oh? Why do you think so?”

“You said you were tasked with investigating a missing artifact. That's your main case, not helping me protect Eden’s Lodge.”

“True. My main case is to subdue the looters who have smeared the face of the magic board.”

“If it is true that the artifact was smuggled through the magic portal Eden’s Lodge, you can not let Eden’s Lodge fall on Denise. He might have something to do with the looters. Giving her a magic portal would make it easier for her to smuggle things. It may also affect crime in both worlds. Didn't you?”

“As I said earlier, I'm happy to meet smart people.” Ruberu smiled wider. “I'll be back at headquarters. I'll see what I can do, starting with the Denise report. Where can I meet you afterwards?”

“Bliss and Tea Room.”

“Millik store mistress Bliss? Hmm... You are truly blessed.” Ruberu rubbed her pointy chin. “I hope you can be disturbed every time.”

“I don't think I can sleep tonight.”

“You should sleep. Tomorrow will be a very tiring day.”

Farrell nodded slowly. “Thank you for helping us, Ruberu.”

“That's my job. But I hope you don't misunderstand me. Not everything comes for free. There are conditions you must meet, Farrell.”

“Terms?”

“Ah, not a condition. This is more to promise.” Ruberu corrected her own words. “If you want to sign a contract with me, I will help you.”
