The Story of Demon Hunter

The Story of Demon Hunter
Fishing In Autumn

From the host city, Arthur and Jotaro are escorted by horse-drawn carriage to the location where the first person to see the apparition lives.

The place the man lived was on the edge of a small town. He was an old man with no family. Having no wife or children, living alone by living a simple life working in the fisheries of the people.

Arriving at the location, Arthur and Jotaro immediately saw a small wooden house with a large yard. Although the house and fence is simple compared to the houses around it, but still maintained and clean.

“You can go back.”

Arthur said casually to the coachman after getting off the horse carriage. But the coachman and a knight sitting next to him immediately shook their heads.

“Please excuse me, Sir. The City Lord asked us to accompany you so as not to hassle and fatigue when traveling.”

Looking towards the two nervous and scared people, Arthur shrugged his shoulders.

“Then you guys wait here.”

“Good, Master!” their answers were in unison with happy expressions on their faces.

Ignoring the two, Arthur immediately went to knock on the door with Jotaro. After a while of waiting, the wooden door opened. The figure of a hunchbacked old man with gray hair appeared before the two of them. Seeing Arthur and Jotaro wearing beautiful clothes, he looked confused.

“Can I help you?”

“We are cultivators hired by the City Lord to investigate the water ghost matter. Since you are the one who first saw the appearance of the creature, can we ask for your time for a moment? We need to get an explanation from you.”

“Ah! Cultivator,” said the old man with a terrified expression. He apologized and hurriedly said. “Please sit down, Sir. There is nothing good at home, I hope water and-“

“No need to bother, Sir. You just have to sit down and tell me what you saw. If any question, we will ask.”

Arthur asked the old man to sit on a wooden chair on the front porch of the house. Since there was only one chair, he and Jotaro stood while listening. Although the old man was uncomfortable from sitting alone, he still told stories according to their request.

About half an hour later, such a detailed story was completed by the old man.

Hearing the old man's explanation, Arthur instantly mimicked the old man's movements as he said.

“Are you sure it's this tall, sir?”

“Eh?”

Looking at the size that Arthur showed, the old man nodded lightly with a puzzled look on his face.

“Is something wrong, Boss?”

“Of course something's wrong, Joe. According to Pak Hotta, the creature was this tall. Though according to his explanation, the water ghost is in the middle of the lake and very far away. That meant, the creature was more than three meters tall, perhaps nearly three and a half meters tall.

Normal water ghosts are not so strong. That thing is definitely not the water ghost we know of. Body size and strength are not at all suitable.”

Arthur shook his head. According to the description of the old man, the evil spirit included the height and length of his own hair probably more than five meters. Most likely her hair was used to snare prey and drag it into the water.

“Is there anything strange, Boss?” jotaro asked as he glanced towards the old man.

“Nothing. She has absolutely nothing to do.” Arthur shook his head. “However if possible, we would like to ask for your help, Mr Hotta? Can it?”

Mr. Hotta himself works the night shift. From the gesture and the way he spoke, Arthur felt that the old man was actually reluctant to work and was afraid. But forced to do so because it will not get money if it does not do so. He could even be fired from his job.

“Eh? Are you serious, Mister?” asked Pak Hotta with a surprised expression.

“Of course if you don't mind,” said Arthur with a smile on his face.

“Of course I don't mind, Sir! I'm happy to receive it!”

Looking at the old man who looked excited because there were two cultivators who could look after him while at work, Arthur shook his head. Although quite sure Mr. Hotta had nothing to do with all this, he still wanted to keep an eye on him up close to get a clue. After all, as a worker, the old man should be quite familiar with the lake area.

That will definitely help them in tracking!

“You heard that, Joe?”

Arthur turned towards Jotaro with a smile on his face. Seeing that smile, Jotaro became misgivings. Sure enough, the young man's speech afterwards made him smile wryly.

“Time to fish in autumn, Joe!”

Her night.

After dinner at the host's house, Arthur and Jotaro go straight to the edge of town where Pak Hotta has been waiting for them. The three people then headed towards the lake. They are not in such a hurry.

At Arthur's request, he and Jotaro follow the Hotta Pact on foot. In addition to enjoying the scenery, the young man thought that they could watch the surrounding area more observantly on foot.

A little while later, they finally arrived at the location.

Pak Hotta's job is to do the guard around the fish cage where the cultivation. There were dozens of large cages belonging to his boss. There, in addition to keeping watch, he also served to feed the fish at night. The old man was also in charge of checking if there were dead fish, broken nets, and such. You could say, although not complicated, the work is quite a lot.

Arthur and Jotaro travel along with Pak Hotta. While watching over the lake, the two of them also knew how Pak Hotta worked. Although not something great, but both still get additional insights.

“From here I first saw the creature, Mr.”

After saying that, Mr. Hotta pointed to where the water ghost first appeared. Looking towards the old man pointed, Arthur and Jotaro shook their heads lightly. Clearly watching from a distance was not successful at all.

After traveling around for some time without success, Arthur finally said goodbye to the Hotta Pact and left together with Jotaro.

Arthur borrowed a canoe (small boat) that was quite narrow. He then went up with Jotaro. While he took out the fishing rod, his partner began to paddle towards the middle area of the lake.

The small boat began to float on the cold and dark lake water. The small boat continued to sway in the night wind, making the two feel less comfortable. Being on a lake that is so vast and dark certainly makes people uncomfortable.

If they are thalassophobes, they may prefer to be killed rather than be asked to sail in a small boat over this deep, dark lake.

Having a relaxed expression on his face, Arthur started whistling then threw a fishing hook into the lake. The young man seemed really curious ...

What was he going to catch in this so desolate and gloomy lake?
