The Crossroads
Nadia smiled broadly as she heard a cheerful voice from behind the phone. Across the street, Dodi, who had the same accident as him, called quickly. The girl was so moved because it turned out that her friend was fine.
They suffered the same injuries, at the time of the incident, just different locations. Now Dodi must remain still in bed and can not move because of his broken leg. It seemed like he still needed treatment and he could not do anything during these two months and would continue until his bones recovered.
They started chatting on the phone, after asking each other for news.
“Ah, thank God, Nad, you are fine, where are you now?”
“Oh, I went home to my hometown, no one took care of me there.” Nadia answered calmly.
“Sama, I also came home, Nad.”
“So, do you think we can still work in that place?” ask Nadia lagim
“I don't know but, it looks like maybe we're just given the allowance.” Dodi answered from behind the phone firmly as if he had some previous experience.
About people who are sick and have a long holiday, usually will not be re-employed by a company, agency or office whatever it is because usually, they are already looking for a replacement. Aren't there a lot of people who need a job in this day and age, while to get a job back is very difficult.
The rest, most of the employees who had not worked for a long time were too embarrassed to return.
“Dodi, are you still in the hospital?”
“Yes, no, it is .. they will not forever pay for hospital care, we are just low employees, we can not be treated until we are completely healed, our health card, right, there's limits! Ah, just grateful to have been able to get treatment for free so far.” Dodi said at length.
“How many days are you hospitalized?”
“Maybe the same as you, Nad! Just three days!”
Listening to the statement from her co-worker, Nadia was stunned, she got so long treatment in the hospital, even in a relatively expensive room, there was AC and a set of sofas in it.
He might be treated differently from the rest of the workers, was it because he kept a secret Boss room? However, didn't the one who paid for the accident compensation cost the owner of the building next door? Nadia was confused thinking about it.
Nadia had promised not to tell anyone the secret. So, even if his company, Fauzan or Hadian did not pay any hospital fees, he would still keep his promise, they will not say recklessly that their leader has a secret room in his office and keeps other personal and valuable objects there.
Is not this a promise a firm bond between a fellow man and even God that he reneges on his promise means that he reneges on his bond with God.
Nadia still asked in her heart and she was afraid to renege on her promise even though, she was just a lowly employee who was paid according to work. How sad an officer who suffered such a fate as himself. If there are no successful people who set up a company and then pay them, then, lowly people like him can not be anything.
Nadia hung up after the chat was enough, she concluded that she was treating herself differently from the other employees and she was quite happy that Dodi was doing well. Recovery of a bone injury did take as long as he did. He decided not to go back to work in the same place.
There was something sad when Dodi spoke pessimistically about his life because with his legs limping now, he might be able to get a good job. Especially at the age of 35 years, the company will likely choose workers who are younger and stronger than him. Nadia thought the same.
The girl looked back at her phone screen and intended to reply to the piled up messages, but, the message she replied was just an answer that she was fine, to her neighbor.
He didn't have many friends at work yet. Friends in one section always burden him with a lot of work. However, now that he had left there he felt no need to connect with anyone in his past, as he had originally intended.
“Nadia let's go now!” salima said when she looked neat, with a small bag in her hand, they would immediately go to the hospital.
“Good, Mom!” sahut Nadia put her phone back on a small table beside her bed.
However, everything he had obtained so far, Nadia felt enough.
The two mothers and son went to the hospital by taxi, unlike two weeks ago when they checked in, Maulana drove him on a motorcycle. However, this time Nadia's father was harvesting in his garden so that he could not deliver, while the schedule of the examination today could not be postponed.
Arriving at the hospital Nadia did not have to wait in line for a long examination in the bone specialist section because not too many patients there. Nadia was silent when the doctor did a check, doing X-rays until all the series of examinations were completed
The doctor who handled Nadia said, “Bu Nadia, the bandage can not be opened because the wound is deep enough and still worrying.”
“Oh, that's it, Doc. Still not long?” ask Nadia.
“His outer wounds alone are only fifty percent, let alone his bones. Possible could be three months away.”
Nadia pensively realized that during that time she had not been able to move freely. Finally he just kept silent not responding to the doctor again, a moment later only the wound cover was replaced with a new bandage by the nurses.
Nadia moved out of her seat, as a series of handling had already been completed, she and Salima immediately walked out of the examination room after saying thanks then, she and Salima immediately walked out of the examination room after saying thanks then, heading to the pharmacy to make up for the medicine he still had to take during the recovery period.
The two women stand on the side of the road waiting for a taxi when a black sedan car stops right in front of them, then, a, a man wearing a mask and sunglasses walked out of the steering wheel door waving his hands.
“Congratulations, noon. Assalamualaikum!” Sapa Fauzan was friendly while bowing his head at Salima showing courtesy.
“Wa’alikumsalam!” answer the two women at the same time.
“How are you, Mom? You remember me, right?”
Hearing Fauzan's question, Salima nodded slowly.
“What need a ride?” ask Fauzan.
He was the man who had been waiting for Nadia for a few days inside Nadia's nursing ward, making Salima stunned. How could he be there and give them a ride when they need it? This is unbelievable.
‘Why is he here? During my work and know I came home the night he was just, never nawarin ride’ inner Nadia with a thin smile.
“No need, we can take a taxi!” replied Nadia. He did not ask his astonishment at the sudden arrival of Fauzan, for a man like him would not answer the question correctly but, if he did, he did, the person being asked must explain it correctly.
“Mother, let's go from here!” take Nadia to her mother. While Salima just obeyed her son walking, for a moment after she managed to overcome her shock.
“You don't want to know why I'm here?” asked the man to step into Nadia and Salima's footsteps, making the two women frown because the man just left the car.
“Ngak!” answer Nadia briefly, “udah, go there. Why are you here.”
“I? Here?” Fauzan repeated Nadia's question while pointing to himself. Nadia nodded while looking.
“Mau by parental command. Yeah, right, Ma?”
As Salima looked at Fauzan, she wondered why he said that because she never asked him to do anything.
“Which order is yes?”
