Maia sighed "Cassie, I don't know if you're aware of it, but you're both sentenced to death! If someone knows who you are... God, I don't want to, I don't even want to think about it" Maia's gaze suddenly turned sad and something told her that it wasn't just because Cassie and Nathan, Robert was also a hybrid and he was, too, in theory, he was put to death like them.

"And then you two are not in a good position. You are Wistledes and he is Leighton..."

"Yes, my sister told me about the competition.. But I don't belong to that world and neither do I!"

"Like it or not, the blood is also in your veins, just like Leighton's blood in Nathaniel's veins!" Maia took Cassie's hand and squeezed it tightly.

"You must be very careful now that you are a hunter! I know Robert has trained you well, but he won't always be there to support you!"

Cassie wants to tell Maia that Nathan really coached her while Robert has just checked to make sure everything is okay, both at the Academy and at home. All of his classmates believe that he is Robert's favorite just because he lives in his house, but no one hints that he and Nathan are together. This doesn't surprise him much. During training, they looked at each other indifferently and did nothing but slaughter each other in a bare-handed fight. And to think that her mother mistook Nathan for her friend when she brought her bag home. There was pain in her chest every time Cassie thought about it. She has resigned herself to the fact that her mother has left, convinced that she may be in a better place, but that doesn't change the fact that she misses her and desperately needs her presence.

"Is there anything else you want to tell me?"

Cassie took a deep breath and knew her voice would break a little, "I miss her a lot…"

"She's a good woman!" maia said, knowing who the girl meant.

"I've met his flock. They wanted to kill me just because I pranked one of them! He saved me and he was the first and last person to do it, you know? If I'm still alive, it's thanks to myself!" Maia shook Cassie's hand again.

"You're strong Cassie! And most importantly, you are not alone. Apart from everything, you have Robert, Nathaniel, Little Fisher and, if you want, you can count on me too!"

If it was someone else, she would probably start crying hearing what the woman said to her, but Cassie didn't. Cassie put her hand on Maia's hand and smiled.

"Thank you very much!"

The phone started shaking again in his pocket and he turned it off for the umpteenth time. Surely her mother was worried about her and, once she got home, her mother would scold her because lately she was rarely at home.

That day he wanted to be alone and reflect. The next day the long-awaited ceremony will take place and he does not know to be happy or sad. Now he is a hunter, one of the best. He could have chosen to remain in the city police, such as the human police, or work to serve the Family. He had lived in Holding all his life, never crossed the border, and now the increasingly larger city was starting to make him feel trapped.

"still here? You must go home, hunter!"

He smiled and looked up "When are you going to stop calling me that?"

"That's you, isn't it?"

"I'm also one of you!" The man smiled and sat down next to him.

"You're like your father!" He rubbed his gray hair and sighed.

"You know that you can be part of the herd and this place is yours, right?"

Cameron's confused. When he shows up there, Bob tells him that he must pass a series of tests before joining the herd, but now he seems to have changed his mind.

"But my parents have ...Leaving that friend?"

The man smiled at himself "You never really leave the herd, it's always been a part of you! Even the girl who was now white, apart from her noble blood, the trap got a place here if she wanted to. He was raised as a wolf, so I think it's only natural that he stays here, just like you."

Only now did Cam realize that he had no idea what Cassie had decided to do. They had met each other that morning during the last rehearsal but had not spoken. In fact, they had not talked to each other for a long time and it did not make him feel comfortable. She feels so guilty for not telling her parents that she was dating their herd, and she also feels so guilty for not telling Cassie. Surely Cassie is fine with White, Cassie doesn't need him anymore now that Nathan is with her. It wasn't jealousy, but she was afraid Cassie would fall in love with the man, even though she didn't know what Cassie's love was like. But the way Cassie clings to him while crying says more than anyone can imagine. Cassie has never behaved like this with anyone, not even with her, who has been her friend for a long time.

Cam saw his watch "It's late, my mother will keep calling and if I don't get home soon she will let me go look for her and at that time ..."

"Please, don't worry. I know exactly what Annabelle looks like! Good luck for tomorrow.not literally of course!" The fact that she laughed made her think that Cam thought the joke she just said was funny.

Cam smiled at him and walked home. He did not want to be late for dinner anymore and had to make more excuses. I'm tired of lying.

However, suddenly, someone bumped into him and they both fell to the ground with a loud noise. Cam Bangkok and clean himself up. When he looked at the person in front of him, his eyes widened.

"What are you doing here at this hour?"

Cam is in front of Cassie's house and she just realizes now "I've come to see if everything's okay..."

"Are you worried now?" Cassie snapping.

"Anyway, he knows. I wanted to go see you, surprise you, but when I got to your house, your mother was a little surprised to see me."

Sure oes. Cam had told her parents that she was going shopping with Cassie because Cassie needed her and felt lonely. Now he lies more and more.

"You didn't tell him that..."

"That? That you're not really with me? Of course not! I told him that I forgot that I had made an appointment with you at the Academy and that I would meet you there."

Cameron sad. But how did he shrink? He lied to his family and Cassie a lot. Not to mention the Crystal! Every afternoon they met in a small square forgotten by everyone, but at a certain moment he, very tired, fell asleep on his shoulder and the poor man woke him up and took him home without complaining.

"Sorry..."

"Not with me you should apologize, but with your family! Why are you lying? What are you hiding Cam?"

"Cassie me..."

"No, no excuses or convolutes! I'd like to know what you're doing!" As if Cassie realized that her tone was too sudden, Cassie took a deep breath and took a step towards him.

"I can help you Cameron" Cassie said in a better tone.

"I mean, I can try!" Cassie looked into Cam's eyes.

Cam thought Cassie was going to change, but he realized that Cassie was not. It was the usual Cassie and, instead of asking for her help after everything that happened, Cassie tried to help her.

"Talk to me Cam... We'll find the solution!"

Cassie looked at him with her big brown eyes and Cameron felt a bit of nostalgia when she thought those eyes were once emerald green. Cam is a little surprised to see it that way, but he realizes that Cassie has no other choice, that otherwise, it will be easier for him to get arrested. They might even know by now, said a small voice in his head, sooner or later he will die. No, I can't allow that. He shook his head, as if the little voice could be silent.

"I'm sorry but I have to go now..."

Cam was about to leave but the girl stopped him from holding her arm.

"Why are you lying? Talk to me! I want to help you..."

Cam doesn't turn his head to look at her, Cam prefers to turn his back on Caasie rather than be tempted to tell her the truth. If Cassie finds out, she'll probably be so angry that Cassie won't talk to her again.

"You're the one who needs help" Cam said in a low voice.

"And I'm willing to help you even if you never ask me."

"Acameron..."

Cam breaks away from Cassie's clutches and runs away. Cam hears Cassie say her name again, but she's too far now and she won't turn around. As far as she knew, Cassie could also hate her, insult her, or never speak to her again, she didn't care. One day, perhaps, Cassie will thank him for saving her life, just like she did with Nathan.

Now that he knew what to do, he knew his place in the world.

Cam hasn't slept much in the last ten days, but that night he's fast asleep so he'll barely wake up the next morning if Cassie doesn't wake him up. The movement surprised him. They had not spoken for a long time, yet now he stood in front of her and woke her up.

Nathan has asked if Cassie wants to be accompanied to the ceremony, but Cassie just shakes her head. And then the uneasy feeling in his heart that had been tormenting him all this time had returned. Nothing has changed.

When Nathan went into the kitchen he barely had time to see Cassie walk out the door. He sat down at his usual spot and sighed in despair.

"He said he wanted to be alone before the ceremony," Robert told him so Cassie was far enough away that he couldn't listen. He seemed very upset by the situation, just like Nathan.

Nathan doesn't understand why he can't communicate with Cassie anymore and how they got to this point. She thinks she finally believes Cassie has accepted her help, but everything has changed since the night they kissed.
