Extra – Starveek Kingdom (Part 1)

"I kept wondering why I was summoned as I walked along the corridor towards the king's private room."

"The king usually spends his time in the office at this kind of hour, so being in his private room is a very rare occurrence. I also often met my esteemed father at dinner. Was the matter he called out today unsuitable to be discussed at such a time?"

"I finally arrived in front of the king's private room. I nodded towards the two royal guard knights, Darshim and Karrot. The two of them have been serving our family since I was a child, so I know them quite well."

(Darshim knocked on the door, opened it slightly and declared “Your Majesty, the princess has arrived. ”) 

(“ Login. ”) 

"I entered the room and was surprised to see my sister inside as well."

(“I've heard your call and have come, Mr. Father,” I say hello.) 

(“Oh, Cleria. I'm sorry for calling you so suddenly. ”) 

(“ It's been a long time Cleria. ”) 

"It's been quite a while since the last time I met my brother – three months, I'm sure."

"I wonder what Master Father means by this? Looks like my brother just got back from the inspection tour. It wouldn't be considered strange if I was also sent, but wouldn't it be better if the tour times were made somewhat apart?"

(“I have no doubts about that Mr Father, but is there any reason to send me so quickly?”) 

(“It would be better if we told him about this matter, Mr. Father. Cleria is not a child anymore. ”) 

(“ Yes, yes, you are right. Please tell him our problem Alf. ”) 

(“ You are aware that I just came from an inspection visit to our south and west domain, aren't you Cleria? ”) 

(“Ya, of course brother. ”) 

"The southern and western domains were where most of the nobles of the former Alois Kingdom lived and governed."

"The "Kingdom of Alois was a state annexed by Starveek Kingdom 162 years earlier. As a condition for annexation, the royal house of the Alois Kingdom was granted the right to administer most of the southern and western territories. However, the southern and western parts were also regions where many problems occurred due to friction between the former Aloisian nobility and the Starveekian descent nobles due to their different views and attitudes."

"According to my brother, he visited several major cities in the southern and western regions and found some of the actions taken by the local nobility rather alarming. There is no real evidence that they are planning something useless. However, some subtle clues, such as the suspicious lukewarm attitude of the local nobility towards his delegation or the far greater number of conscripted soldiers than those reported to the capital, proved to be quite alarming."

"As part of the peace process and a sign of trust, mass recruitment of personnel from southern and western noble families was carried out five years ago. Both the military minister in charge of the army and the finance minister in charge of the kingdom's economic affairs have people from the area appointed for various import positions."

"The two men were excellent individuals who each proposed innovative reforms that proved quite astonishing to their peers. However, it was also true that their act of recruiting the majority of their followers from people from the southern and western domains raised more than a few eyebrows and raised concerns."

"Alf stared at Cleria's back as she left the king's private room."

"Fal, who was waiting outside, rushed towards me as soon as I came out of the king's private room."

(“He told me to go to the east and west region for inspection visit. Do you want to accompany me? ”) 

(“Of course Cleria-sama!”) 

"After that, I continued the preparations for the walk. I had just grown up the year before so this was my first time out for a royal inspection. There are many things I don't know."

"And thus, as commanded by the king, we finally set out after three days. I said goodbye to my father, brother and mother. Mom must have heard something from dad about my trip, so he told me to always be alert during the trip."

"My brother accompanied me halfway to deliver me. I'm so glad he did!"

"Companying me on the way were some of the palace guard knights and their bodyguards. Even Sir Antes, the captain of the royal guard, was present! Moreover, most of the knights are those who have served me since I was young."

"It's a well-known fact that my father loved me too much in the royal palace, but I think it's time for me to become a little more independent from now on."

"We eventually left the royal capital, home to half a million Starveekians, and began our journey."

"The royal inspection went relatively smoothly. However, I feel bad when touring some cities."

"Our delegation was warmly welcomed by high-ranking nobles, but the barons and other lower-ranking nobles seemed to be acting strangely towards us. They did receive us properly, but it felt like they were acting unusually shut down for some reason."

"Is their attitude simply due to the difference in status between us? I asked Fal about my observation, but he told me that he didn't notice that kind of thing."

"The royal inspection continued as planned until we finally reached the last stage of our journey. Three months have passed since we departed from the royal capital. We arrived at the beginning of the Ludvic house, where my mother used to be a part of. The current Earl is my mother's older brother. We were of course enthusiastically accepted by them."

"The night after our arrival, the door of my room was suddenly knocked. Fal, who lived in an adjacent anteroom, swiftly got up and went to my side."

(“Who's there!?”) 

(“That's Darshim, Your Majesty. A servant of this house came, saying that the earl asked to meet you because of my daughter's haste. I tried to resist him, but he insisted. ”) 

(If that's the case, then how else. We stayed at the earl castle to begin with. Complying with this request will be appropriate. I looked towards Fal and nodded in agreement. “Please wait a minute,” cried Fal. I then proceeded to make myself more presentable.)
