[Elizabeth POV]
"Hehehehe.. Please eat the dishes we have made, hehehehe.. please, Miss."
"You're so good Mr. Village Chief–"
"I'm sorry, but it'd be better if you just mentioned my real name. Hehehe..."
"Oh yeah! You're right, I'm sorry... Mr. Erendriel."
After returning from his stupor, Mr. Erendriel, the village chief here, immediately told some residents to make a banquet for me. Yes God! You shouldn't have to serve me this much food, sir. Seeing how shiny the oil on top of the meat made my appetite go up.
Sitting around the elves, their curious gazes made me uncomfortable.
Not because I don't like them, but because I don't like being noticed by so many people!
I can hear their voices with my ears.
"Well..is he human? It's so pretty."
"Look at how he took the cake."
"Do humans have such beautiful manners?"
"I don't know what I obviously want to be here looking at him."
Ouch! Stop already! Stop staring and commenting on me in secret.
Their voices I could hear clearly and this made me feel uncomfortable. I try not to pay attention to their gaze, for my focus now is only on Mr. Erendriel.
"It seems we're making you uncomfortable."
"A, ah not at all. I'm just surprised by all the banquets you served me... Is this not too much?"
Erendriel then laughed. "Hahahaha.this is a special banquet that we give to heroes like you." He then took a glass of the drink beside him and downed it until it ran out.
It was not only I who sat there; Aimon and his companions sat at the banquet. Their seats are next to Lord Erendriel, so I find it difficult to speak to them.
"Your village is very traditional, very comfortable here" I said, taking two flower-shaped cakes and eating them.
"Oh really!? Thank you very much for the compliment, we are so grateful to have guests - ah no! Heroes like you,"
Despite getting used to all this praise, for some reason, when Mr. Erendriel still called me "hero" embarrassed me.
How about killing all the monsters; and freeing the cave I just went through could make them this happy?
Was the cave a field to earn a living for them?
"It looks so."
Judging from that dark place, there were countless crystal and mineral stones that I did not take while killing monsters. Well, I can't take it either, when it's not my property.
"The cave.." - Lord Erendriel began to open his voice. "...is our place of livelihood."
As I suspected.
"When Aimon told me all the stories about you, I couldn't hold back my tears. Really am! With you killing all the monsters in that cave, we can finally mine the minerals and gems there."
"Does every elf here work as a miner?"
"Not all of them, only the men I let in. The women are not allowed into the cave, knowing that danger awaits them in there."
Women were generally weaker than men, so Erendriel's words could be easily digested.
Even so, viewed from any angle. The elves here are mostly female, while the men here tend to be so few, that's what I can catch.
But if they're the ones looking for minerals, then who's buying them?
"What about the buyer? I mean, who's gonna buy all the minerals you've been mining?"
"Ah.. that's all we sent by train to the capital."
I remembered something while walking with Amon. He said that this village was a small part of their kingdom. In other words, the structure of government here is not much different as in the human world.
"....It just took us quite a long time to send all those minerals," said Erendriel, whose face was staring straight at me while her hands were busy picking things up from her shirt.
"This is an example of a mineral that we mined in that cave, Aurphite, is one of them." Erendriel threw the paper she took out of her shirt forward, and I took it.
Eli stretched out his hand, took the paper that Erendriel threw, and opened it.
Th-this!?
[Elizabeth POV end]
In addition because nobles have a high degree, in terms of dress, of course they try to display the best: using gems as jewelry one of them.
That way, many eyes will see how classy and tall they are in social life.
No wonder many of them spend a lot of money just to buy jewelry rather than food. One of the most expensive gems that are rarely used as jewelry is Opal, referred to as the Stone of Dawn, because of its color that contrasts with the color of the sun when it is just rising.
"How can they mine the same gems as in my world?"
Anyway, this sounds pretty weird. At first Elizabeth thought that this was an ordinary dungeon; a place where she would meet difficult elves, and help them solve their problems. But no! All these conversations were so hard for him to believe. Does the system create this world by taking some things from its world?
Even so, this is just a jewel.
"It looks like you're interested in the jewel, Elizabeth," said Erendriel, his face smiling and then laughing. "Hohoho, take it easy, the gem has a very low value here. Many more expensive gems grew in that cave."
Wh-what!? Opal is so cheap in your eyes??
Eli did not understand what the elves were thinking. How can Erendriel say that Opal has a very low selling point?
"Why is this gem so cheap? Is there no speciality?"
"The jewel contained no magic in it and all we were looking for was a jewel with magic content in it. Even so, the gem is still mine and we make it as home furniture."
"...."
Elizabeth was at a loss for words. When silence struck him, he sat with his mouth open wide. Using them as home furniture? This sentence he still could not believe. A gem that was so rare in his world, it was apparently not so precious in the eyes of the elves.
Compared to using them as jewelry; using them as home furnishings seems like a common right here
"Is there anything wrong with my words," hearing Erendriel speak to him, Eli was just acting normal with a wry smile on his face.
"Yohohoho! Thanks for the compliment."
Suddenly, when the atmosphere began to feel so warm, there was noise outside the house. People were shaking each other, and Eli could hear the sound of a crying baby.
Isn't that?
I'm sure I'm not sure that the crying came from Coco.
But, when a girl forcibly entered through the crowd that had gathered in front of the entrance, she was immediately stunned. Ashera entered with Coco who was crying loudly in her hands. It seemed that he was struggling to win over Coco who was moving right to left; he was angry and his gaze seemed to be looking for someone.
"The chief forgive me! Coco didn't want to shut up and just kept crying."
"What happened to him?"
Erendriel, who seemed to be worried, got up from her seat and went straight to the girl, and tried to calm Coco down.
"Coco dear~ what's wrong? Why are you crying, son?"
"Hiks...Egr..."
"Come smile dong! Don't cry on ya, later your eyes become puffy."
He tried to comfort her several times but in vain, Coco continued to rebel and her cries became louder than before.
"YEE!! HIKSS... EWWLI" (Generic)
"What did you say, son?"
"EWLII? EWWWLIII!" (Eli! Eli!)
"Eli?"
Hearing her name, Elizabeth stood up.
"Coco, did you call me?"
Coco directed her gaze toward the voice, her face instantly shining brightly and her cries paused for a moment. But then, he cried again in such a loud tone.
Elizabeth who understood that Coco was looking for her immediately reached out her hand to hold Coco. The incident was seen by all the villagers who gathered at the village chief's house; erendriel also witnessed it.
"Shhhttt."
Coco's cry had now turned into a sob. Erendriel could not believe what he saw.
It was a sign that there was something he needed to know and ask the girl.
How could Coco be interested in that girl? I really don't believe it!
With a smile on his face, as Coco was calm in Elizabeth's cradle, she said.
"Sound all of you! Go and go home to each one of you. You've gathered here enough!" Erendriel then told his two bodyguards to disperse everyone, except Aimon, Ashera and the elves who had come with Elizabeth.
Whatever happens now is a sign that Erendriel has found the man she's been looking for all along.
And that person was standing right in front of him.
"Elizabeth." said Erendriel, looking at Elizabeth with a serious look, her sharp eyes asking Eli questions, and she knew what he was going to ask.
"There's something important I want to ask you."
"Is this about Coco's abilities, your kingdom, and the demon army?"
Both of Erendriel's eyes were wide open at Elizabeth's words. He asks. How could? While turning his gaze to Aimon and Ashera, their eyes met and locked onto each other, he smiled and nodded his head.
So anyway...
He realized that the one who brought Elizabeth here, to his village and met him was them and that there might be a conversation between those who were unknown to him.
Erendriel came to a conclusion.
"Ashera, Aimon and you wait here. Elizabeth... would you like to follow me for a moment?"
Elizabeth nodded, but what about Coco?
As he stared at Coco and the old man several times, Erendriel nodded. "It's okay, and Coco's still a kid and she can't understand adult conversations yet."
Finally, Erendriel walked to the back of his house. Eli took a step and then followed him. Before leaving the room, he paused for a moment and asked Aimon.
"Actually where will he take me?"
But Aimon answered. "You need not fear, you will meet someone who will open your mind to your way of life."
Eli's eyes and ears were made so itchy to hear Ammon's words. He digested it many times, but he could not find the answer.
But, he also did not want to waste much time. With Coco in his arms he followed Erendriel to the back of the house, where he stood and waited for Eli.
"Where are we going?"
"We will meet with Vasati Ralosandoral, a magician who is able to see the future."
"Why did we meet him?"
"You'll know, now, let's go." Erendriel walked first, leaving Eli with a look of bewilderment.
Coco who was in her arms several times called out her name.
"Ewli! Ewli!" (Eli! Eli!)
"Please don't move while we're still on the road, okay?"
"Damor..."
With a kiss on her forehead Coco drowned her face in Eli's chest. He followed Erendriel who had gone further than he.
Eli had no idea who the great astrologer was. Vasati Ralosandoral, the name is so ancient and mysterious.
Why am I not feeling well?
Eli tried to throw away the feeling stuck in his chest, there was no way something bad would happen after he met the astrologer. Who knows, though, if the soothsayer was the one who would take Eli to lead him back home where he really should be.
