First Day

First day as co-assistant (coass)

" FanFan, Crystal, this is Dr. Chen and this is dr. Zhang Li Yin, they are first year resident doctors, they will help you" said Dr. Yu Tang

Today was our first day on duty. There are 2 stages that must be passed by a coass, namely the minor stage and the major stage. I screamed for my brother, I forgot I was in the Hospital now, I can't call him brother. He turned around while glaring at me.

"Heheheh, I'm sorry doctor Hendery" I said as I bowed 90°

"Based on you, uh how was your day?what's fun?" Ask Dery g

"Lumayan, we're on guard at the IGD and treating patients" FanFan replied

"You have to be excited, in the future maybe you won't be this relaxed"

"Later tonight we'll start guarding ger's night" I said

We had lunch together and talked about our activities at the hospital. Suddenly FanFan had to leave after receiving the phone call, while I was still chatting with Dery.

"ge.eh, I don't mean Hendery heheh doctee, are you going home tonight?" Much

"I'll have no night shift, so I'll go home to rest" he said as he devoured the mantao he ordered.

"If I don't come home tonight, I've prepared some food, it's in your leftover fridge to heat up"

"Is there anything you want to tell me?" I smiled at the nurse

"Emm.I want to ask you doctor, you're the new co-assistant, but why do you know Dr. Hendery. I saw you guys in the cafeteria earlier and you guys were so familiar. I was just curious." said the nurse

I was really dumbfounded to hear the nurse say, we don't even know each other but she's been asking me things like this. I actually don't want to bother, I already know that nurse must be one of my sister's fans.

Lu Han and I bowed and greeted the friendly Professor Chen. At first glance I remembered my late grandfather when I saw Professor Chen. His shiny bald head was exactly the same as my deceased grandfather's head.

We got together because we wanted to close up the patients who were going to have bypass surgery.

(Heart bypass surgery; measures to overcome blockage or narrowing of coronary artery blood vessels).

Professor wants to include me and Lu Han, he wants us to see firsthand the real surgical procedure.

"Now I know why Professor Jiang sent you here, then you can enter OR (Operating Room/Operating Room) and see and learn the procedure directly, you have to see how reliable assistants like them do it" Professor Chen said, pointing to senior doctors.

Lu Han and I really feel lucky to be able to study under Professor Chen. After the meeting, Lu Han and I returned to the IGD.

Suddenly a mother came to the IGD, just me and Lu Han and some nurses who served in the ER, we called Dr. Zhang to ask about the procedures we should do. Because as a coass we can't just handle patients

"doctor Zhang, there's a patient, 8-year-old, there's a fish bone stuck in his throat" I haven't finished speaking yet, Zhang's doctor cut me off

"You can handle it, it's just a small matter. I'm busy" said Dr Zhang, turning off my phone

Lu Han and I tried to get the fish bones out, although it was easy but since this was our first patient, we felt a little nervous. And again the fish bones are stuck deep enough. I tried to calm the child down while Lu Han tried to pull out the fish bone. As a result we succeeded.

Today was a really nice day, we were on duty in the ward, dealing with patients at IGD, and the happiest we were allowed to see the bypass surgery procedure in person.

"Today you will start guarding the night, this is your schedule" said our senior, dr. zhang.

Lu Han and I also looked at our night watch schedule. We will be on guard from 9pm to 1pm the next day. We come to the hospital at 8 am, then continue to watch the night from 9 to 1 pm the next day, if in total almost 30 hours we are in the hospital. I asked myself, are we going to be okay?
