june 11, 1984, that day Jakarta is still like the usual day. Many activities were seen towards that afternoon, but there was something unusual in Darman's heart.
During the trip, Darman's eyes continued to glaze over as the man's hands continued to drive his car. The red car drove towards a hospital.
This is the darkest day for Darman after she heard the news of the miscarriage experienced by Linda who is now being treated in the hospital. How sad Darman's mind is when he knows his baby candidate is no longer there.
Not only that, but the doctor also said that the uterus of the wife was forced to be removed after this event. As a result Linda is unlikely to get pregnant again and that means there is no possibility for Darman to get offspring from Linda.
"Excuse me Inda mas," Linda said as she reached for her husband's hand.
"Yes, it's okay, it's not your fault" Darman replied with watery eyes as he returned his wife's hand.
"Now we're home, huh?" bring Darman
Linda just nodded as she tried to smile at her husband's invitation.
The couple Darman and Linda have long dreamed of a baby. They had been married eleven years, but their household was so lonely without the joy of a child and they longed for it. But what would it say if destiny had other wills.
The next day Darman got an assignment from the office. Darman was appointed as supervisor for the construction of several bridge projects in a remote area on the east coast of Sumatra.
Darman is very happy, because this is the first time he is trusted as a supervisor of the project and this is also the time Darman proved his performance. This is good enough for Darman to promote his rise in his position at the contractor company where he works.
Darman's assignment required him to stay in the project area for three weeks to oversee the project's finishing stages.
Darman's route to the project site turned out to be quite tiring. The journey took three days and two nights
Darman began his departure by air travel from Jakarta to a provincial capital and continued by bus to a designated place.
After that Darman was forced to change buses again to continue the journey until the bus stopped at a ferry port.
The river route became the only access to the area where the project was undertaken. Of course, the transportation used is a boat to the destination port.
While in port, Darman is picked up by a project field foreman. His name is Amin and Amin is the one who will take Darman to the project. To reach the location, Amin hugged Darman on his motorcycle.
During the conversation, Darman asked a lot about the intricacies of this area to Amin who was a native there. They seemed to be conversing and looking familiar, even though they had just met.
Darman looks left and right on the side of the road. He witnessed the simple life of society.
Along the way many mosques and mosques are standing in the area. This scene illustrates that the people here are religious and religious.
On the way, there is one thing that invites questions in Darman's heart after he saw a rickety hut far from the residential area. The old hut was exactly in a forest area. This portrait of Darman witnessed from the side of the road they passed.
"Amen! this is a protected forest area, why is there an old hut that stands secluded in the middle of the forest? is there anyone there?" ask Darman curious.
Amin was silent as if he had not heard Darman's question
"Amen! Amen! I'm asking you, don't you hear me?" Darman further amplified his voice.
"Oh yes sir! I forgot to say one thing to Mr. Darman, I hope you never ask about the hut and the people who live there" said Amin
"B-but m-why can't I ask?" ask amen stammering because of her confusion
"That's how Sir! anyway you don't ask about the old hut again or not later you will be hated by the people here." Amen tried to explain.
Amin's explanation even confused Darman and made Darman more curious. While Amin continues to pull the motorcycle gas to get to the destination.
"Finally we arrived Sir" said Amin with relief
"This hamlet is named the hamlet of Taman Muslim, yes .. probably because the people here are religious, fanatical and so on" Amin continued with a smile.
"There's no electricity here sir! and may you feel at home to stay here," said Amin again closed his speech
Darman just nodded and smiled as he thanked Amin.
Darman and Amin get off the motorcycle shortly after arriving at Amin's yard.Amin then invites Darman to enter his house.
While in the area, Darman will live with Amin. Coincidentally Amin is an old single who has not married, so Darman did not feel hesitant to stay there for three weeks.
After taking a short break, Darman and Amin immediately reviewed the location of their project. There's a lot of things they do there. Suddenly the sound of Ashar's voice echoed. Of course, as a Muslim, Darman must fulfill his obligations.
Darman sholat ashar congregate with the surrounding residents. They prayed at a musholla not far from the project site.
After the Ashar prayer, Darman took the time to read some of the religious books in the musholla.
Shortly thereafter, Darman heard the noisy sounds of children outside the musholla. They seem to be fighting and don't know what they're fighting about. Then Darman began to approach them slowly until Darman heard their conversation.
"Whether you're here, people don't like to see you" snapped a child who accidentally came out of the mosque.
"I just want to join the teaching, let me" said the white-hooded boy while looking very pleading.
Suddenly a man came and immediately drove the white-hooded girl away from the musholla.
"Go there, your place is not here, go ... ! you ignorant child are being put to good luck" the adult man told the poor little girl.
Seeing this Darman did not stay silent and he immediately approached them and said.
"That can't be rude, let alone the same children, pity him," Darman told the man.
"Hey, you do not interfere, this is not the business of the Father, this Father is a newcomer and does not know anything, later you regret." The man pointed at Darman's face.
"But what you're doing is not right" Darman said
"The father is not right."
Then this grumpy man started swinging his fists at Darman
Lucky Amin immediately came and immediately prevented the actions of the man who had been ignited emotions.
"What the fuck is this David!" and Amin's servant to the man who was called David
"Can't you be polite to others? This is my boss." Amin tells us who Darman really is.
Shortly after the dispute, there was also the voice of an old grandmother who was calling.
"Dear of it! Aisha! granddaughter grandma!" exclaimed the old granny while hugging the boy with her cry.
"Grandma told me not to go out" the grandmother said
"Aisyah just wants to learn naji nek, Aisyah wants to be like other children" Aisyah said while crying.
"Can't be Ayesha! you can't learn njai in this musholla."
"But why grandma?" The nine-year-old boy asked for an explanation from his grandmother.
The grandmother answered nothing. He just cried and once again he held his favorite grandson.
Nek Nimah ... ! david shouted at the old grandmother.
"Quickly you go and bring your grandson from here, because if you linger here, this musholla will be exposed to filth by you."
David snapped and drove out Nek Nimah and Aisha, his granddaughter.
Darman witnessed everything that happened. Darman's feelings are mixed. There was sadness, confusion, indignation and also anger at David's treatment of the two weak women.
After the people dispersed from it, it turned out that Darman secretly followed Nek Nimah and Aisyah without them noticing.
Along the way they were both reviled by the society and some even pelted them.
Darman is shocked by the public's hatred for Aisyah and her grandmother. Darman watched it with a haru taste. Darman sees the two enter an old hut in a forest area.
Darman remembered Amin's remark that do not ask about the hut and the people who live there. It turned out that Aisyah and her grandmother lived in that remote hut.
At night, a makeshift moonlight illuminates the entire village, picking up crickets that lead Darman to drift in daydreams. He was alone.
There's a lot of question marks on Darman's head. Among them is about Aisyah and her grandmother who is like being exiled in this hamlet.
Then Amin came along with two cups of coffee. Amin thrust one of them to Darman until Darman's daydreams fell out right then and there. Darman also grabbed a cup of coffee given by Amin.
"Mother why, how do you daydream?" amin asked while sitting in a chair near Darman.
"I'm confused Min! about the incident last afternoon, actually what has happened here" said Darman opened the conversation.
"Already Sir! don't think about it, you didn't live here long anyway. The most important thing now is how we make our project done quickly" said Amin
"It's not so Min! I just want to know, tell me to understand" Darman asked seriously.
Amin took a deep breath and then he said.
"Rodam, yes ... Rodams."
"Rotech ... "
Darman repeated Amin's words while frowning his forehead
"Aisyah and her grandmother were exposed to Rodam by the people of this hamlet" said Amin
"Min! try to speak clearly, I don't understand what you mean, what is Rodam?" ask Darman who seems more confused.
"Rodam is the term of the person here, to refer to a punishment to a person and his family for having done wrong and considered to have defamed the hamlet of Taman Muslim," Amin explained what he meant.
"What did Aisha and Nek Nimah do?"
Hearing Darman ask back, Amin once again let out a long sigh and Amin said.
"All right sir! I'll tell you everything that's going on here."
"Sutriyah wants to make her mother happy because she does not have a father anymore, Sutriyah aspires to change her poor mother's life to be prosperous.
"By his ambition, Sutriyah migrated to Malaysia. Within a year, Sutriyah had been able to buy his mother a house that was worth living in, a plot of land for her mother to grow rice and a fishing boat. All that Sutriyah bought for the only parent he had was his mother
"But the following year, there was a massive repatriation of TKI from Malaysia. Those deemed illegal were improperly repatriated, including Sutriyah.
"Sutriyah's return back then was completely different. Sutriyah came home pregnant with no husband. Usut got a mouthwash apparently during in Malaysia Sutriyah working as a prostitute.
"The people were very angry with him, they were driven out, their houses were burned and their land and businesses were confiscated. They were exiled and exiled in an old hut in the forest area.
"Until finally Sutriyah gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who was given Mana Aisyah. Three days after giving birth, Sutriyah committed suicide by hanging her neck.
"Now Aisyah may be around nine years old. He lived with his grandmother in an old shack in the woods and that poor little boy you saw this afternoon.
"Since then Aisyah and Nek Nimah have always been treated badly by the people here. Every time they meet the villagers, they are always insulted, reviled even Aisyah who does not understand anything is also affected.
"Then when will people punish them like that?" darman asked Amin
"Life," replied Amin.
Hearing Amin's words, Darman was stunned between the tears that had clumped in both his eyeballs.
"How will Aisyah's future be? ask Darman back
"Entai sir! if that I don't know, but I don't think Aisyah will have a future" said Amin.
"I often saw Aisyah wanted to go to school in Ibtidaiyah, but she was not accepted, Aisyah was eager to learn to teach, Aisyah wanted to know how to read the Qur'an, Aisha wanted to know how to read the Qur'an, but that opportunity will never be there for him. Bitter the girl's life," said Amin, sipping his coffee that began to cool.
"It is fitting that David was so angry with both of them" Darman said
"David? what you saw from David this afternoon was not just anger but revenge" Amin said
Once again Darman frowned.
"Dawud had once asked Sutriyah before Sutriyah left for Malaysia, but Sutriyah refused David outright. David was very hurtful towards Sutriyah and his family, Even David always made various issues to the citizens in order to hate Aisha and Nek Nimah even more." Amin gave an explanation to Darman.
"Sometimes I don't understand, he said people here are religious people. While religion has never taught to punish innocent people" Darman said.
"That's what I don't understand sir! 'Rodam' is not customary, 'Rodam' is just a mutual agreement among the population but the punishment is terrible and inhumane." Amin tried to express his opinion.
"Yes, sir!" now we go to sleep first, rest first because tomorrow we will work again, then both go into the house to sleep and rest.
It has been a week Darman in the area, but Darman never again saw Aisyah, the boy who wanted to learn to teach yesterday.
Darman decided to visit the old hut in the forest. Arriving at Darman's old hut saw how poor their lives were.
Darman brought a Qur'an, prayer mats and a mukena that Darman deliberately wanted to give to Aisha.
It turned out that inside the house Aisyah was sitting next to her ailing grandmother. Meanwhile Aisyah was very surprised when she saw the arrival of foreigners in their hut. Maybe this child is always depressed to see the people around him.
"Don't be afraid, Ayesha! I'm not like them, I won't hurt you" Darman said
Then Darman approached Aisyah and said, "this is for you, Ayesha!" while offering what he brought.
"Why grandmother?"
"Granny s-sick Uncle!" aisha stammered.
"Pick up a bowl of cold water, your grandmother will be compressed to let the heat subside" Darman pinta told the little girl.
Aisyah then went to the kitchen and took a bowl of water and then Darman put it on Nek Nimah's forehead.
"Say Aisyah wants to learn naji, here uncle teach" said Darman
"Yes Uncle." Aisyah seemed to be smiling cheerfully.
Several times Darman came to the hut to teach Aisyah to read the Qur'an until one day Nek Nimah was called the Almighty in her pain.
Even more impressive, there was not a single villager who Sudi came and completed his Fardhu kifayah, only Darman and Amin who took the role.
Now Aisyah lives a kara and to accompany her sadness and loneliness, Darman more and more often visit the hut.
One day David provoked the people to expel Darman from the hamlet of the Muslim Garden because it was considered to violate the restrictions and customs there.
Darman, who was accompanied by Amin, was in the hut with Aisyah, who was learning to teach. They were very surprised when the citizens came and cheered.
"The man of the city, cast out the son of a prostitute, put the bastard away." so the cheers of the citizens were heard loudly.
"Wait, give me a chance to talk" asked Darman to the residents.
For a moment the atmosphere became silent and Darman continued to speak.
"I want to ask you one thing, what's wrong with this kid?"
"Try to look at his innocent eyes, look at your heart, has he ever hurt you?"
"Hhh ... ! you know what's really going on, you're new" David said aloud
"I know," welcome Darman
"You're punishing this kid because of his mother, aren't you? because her mother was a whore and you never knew who her father was.
"Then you banish him, you despise him, you are hardened and you curse this child, then that is what you call the punishment 'Rodam', this Rodam you have made customary, he said, while Rodam is just a decision that you make yourself to realize your anger.
"I know, you know, everyone knows too but does Aisyah know why you're punishing her. Aisha never knew the reason, not even the meaning of the word prostitute she knew.
"It is so honorable of you to feel the need to punish this innocent child.
"Look, Aisyah just wants to be like other children.she wants to learn to teach, she wants to learn to pray and she also wants to go to school like your children but that opportunity she never got.
"I know, Aisha is not as noble as Aisha's daughter Abu Bakr and Aisha is not a match for Aisyah Umm Sayyidah. He was just a little Aisha who just wanted to learn to teach, Aisha who really longed to be good at reading the Qur'an and she wanted to proclaim the holy verses of the Qur'an. Is that even if he has no right?
"Is this kid too dirty in your eyes? so you have to throw it away."
Darman delivered it all with tears in his eyes and with the deepest sincerity of heart.
While the people who heard it were silent and not a single word came out of their mouths.
Then Darman held both shoulders and looked at Aisyah's eyes while speaking.
"Dear of it! their hearts are but a lump of flesh between the lungs, you will find no conscience in them.
"Their hearts are so full of hatred that there is no empty space left for your place in their hearts.
"They can't learn to understand your feelings, which means there's no place for you in this hamlet of the Muslim Garden.
"Dear of it! come with uncle. Uncle will take you to a place where there will be no more people asking about who your father and mother are, because uncle will be a father for you and uncle's wife will be a mother for you.
"We will love you like our own flesh and blood and will always protect you more than our lives.
"Do you want to?" ask Darman with eyes.
Aisyah nodded while crying and immediately hugged Darman. The hug was tight
"Dad!" said Aisyah in Darman's ear like a whisper. Then Darman smiled in between her tears while wiping away Aisyah's tears that were still attached to her left and right cheeks.
Suddenly
"Nonsense, you talk too much." David's voice rang out loud as his fists hit Darman's left jaw hard until Darman fell.
Seeing Darman fall, Amin pulled David and beat him to a fall. A fight between David and Amen is inevitable.
This fight is so fierce. Several times David was seen upside down because he was unable to withstand a blow from Amin. Amen repeatedly dropped David.
While the people who were there running around saw the commotion that occurred and there were among them who called the security.
While the struggle between David and Amin is still going on until David was thrown into a place not far from Darman who was embracing Aisha. David suddenly pulled a knife from his waist and was about to stab Darman but in an attempt to prevent this Amin's stomach was finally hit by a knife David.
Blood came out and poured out of Amin's stomach, and Darman took the dying Amin. Before Amin's breath ended, Amin spoke to Darman gasping for breath.
"Sir Darman! take Ayesha from this place, guard and protect Ayesha." After saying that, Amin breathed his last breath.
Darman wept loudly and clutched Amin's bloodied corpse.
Soon the authorities came and put David in prison for so long because of David's murder of Amin.
Because of this incident, Darman was fired from his job. Darman is considered incompetent in carrying out the task.
Darman is not disappointed with the Company's decision because jobs can be sought. The most important thing now is that Darman can take Aisyah home with him to Jakarta.
Darman told Aisyah about what happened to his wife Linda. Linda was very pleased with Aisyah's presence in their home. Aisyah is now a light in the midst of the skin of the household Darman and Linda who had been dreaming of a child.
Aisyah was raised by Darman and Linda with great affection, Aisyah being an inseparable part of their family until now.
It has not been ten years since that sad event. Aisha is now nineteen years old. She grew up to be a beautiful and beautiful teenager and amazing again, now Aisyah is a Hafidz Qur'an. Aisha had memorized fifteen Juz of the Qur'an.
Aisyah who now always looks smiling and cheerful as a sign of happiness as heard in her boisterous greeting to Darman and Linda every morning
"Dad ...! Mother ... ! Assalamualaikum, good morning, I love you both" Aisyah said happily.
