Chapters 17. Visiting Father in the Village

Four hours drive from the city, Rico and Karen arrive at the village her father Karen comes from. Rico asked the man who was in the rice field about Karen's father. They showed me the house in the middle of the garden.

With sure and happy steps, Karen walked towards the tiny house made of wood. The woman knocked on the door as soon as she got in front of the house.

Several times knocking sounding footsteps approaching. Someone from inside the house opened the door.

"Dad ...," said Karen and immediately ran into the man's arms. Seemed a surprise from the look on the father's face.

"Dad, why don't you tell me. Fortunately Rico can help find the whereabouts of the father," said Karen.

"Who's Rico?" ask Dad.

Hearing Karen's father ask, Rico came forward and greeted the middle-aged man. Smiling, he introduced himself.

"Come in. It's not good to see the villagers. Come alone with a man" said Dad.

There is no sofa in the house. Only pandan mats are the base for them to sit.

Karen's headed for a very simple kitchen. There is only a stove and cooking utensils. The woman cooked water and made two glasses of warm tea for father and Rico.

After that Karen sat down between the two men. The woman leaned against her father's shoulder. The look on my face was still a little shocked.

"Have you asked permission for your husband to come here?" ask Dad finally.

"Bapi Arion is going out of town for business. I'm afraid I won't be allowed to honestly see you" Karen said.

"Karen, I've often reminded you, are you really ready to marry Arion. If you're not ready, I'm willing to go to jail. But you always say you're ready and will try to be the woman Arion wants you to be" he said.

Karen held her father's hand. Look at that face without blinking. Only then did he realize his father's already wrinkled face, a sign of aging.

"Dad, don't worry. I always follow what Papi Arion says. If I leave without permission, it's because he's out of town. I'm so worried about my dad that I can't wait until my husband gets home" Karen said.

Karen purposely said that so that her father wouldn't worry. Karen's father often reminds her that Arion is not a good man. He would do anything to avenge people he didn't like.

Karen's father seemed to let out a long, deep sigh. Looking towards Rico.

"Who is this guy? What's your relationship with him? I'm worried about you. What would Arion do if he knew you were going with another man" Karen's father said.

He knows how Arion behaves. He would not think long of giving punishment to people he did not like.

Look at Karen's father's face. Rico finally spoke up.

"Dad, I'm Papi Arion's son. I don't know who my Papa really is. Why would you say that Papi's a dangerous man. Can you explain all this?" ask Rico.

Rico was very curious about what his Papi was doing out there. Why Karen's father always told me to be careful.

Karen's father was very surprised to accept the fact that the man who was with his daughter was the son of Arion. He had said something bad about Arion. What if Rico said what he said.
