Flowers still remember what Raden Yusuf looked like. Not handsome at all. His ignorant attitude towards Bunga made the girl lazy to go to the pesantren. He always made a thousand excuses for his father and mother to cancel the delivery to that place.
That night, Raden Yusuf with his father, Kanjeng Kyai Salih, visited the residence Tumenggung Wirya. And the look of Raden Yusuf who has now turned twenty-three years old, still remains the same.
Although Raden Yusuf was not as keen on her first, however, Bunga did not like the way the young man looked at her. He feels uncomfortable. Throughout the meeting of the two families, Bunga continued to put on his pouting face.
Flowers only listen to what those people are talking about. Whatever it is, he will obviously reject it. Although Raden Yusuf was willing to wait until his education was over, he did not want his life to end up just being a wife who obeyed the husband.
Flowers are not anti-marriage. Only, he still wanted to achieve his dream. He wants to continue his education to college. Studying law and politics. And Raden Yusuf, did not seem like a man capable of supporting his wife to come forward. It is of course contrary to the living principles of Flowers.
For most of the night, flowers cannot close their eyes. He thought of a way to escape the match. He did not like Raden Yusuf. There was no feeling for that man.
Tired, the next day at school, his face looks wrinkled. The black circles around his eyes were clearly visible. In fact, during the break, Bunga decided to go to the library and closed his eyes for a moment there. He could not resist the sleepiness that attacked.
It felt like just as soon as the Flower fell asleep, someone patted her shoulder slowly. Surprised, he lifted his head off the table. The first thing he saw was Jacob's smile. His blue eyes look bright.
"Goed verdriet (Jeez), Jacob!" Flowers rubbed his face rough. "You startled me" he grumbled.
Jacob grimacing. He brought his face closer to Bunga, watching the girl's face from a close distance. "You're sleep deprived?" tanyakanya.
The flower breathed slowly. "Looks yes. And you're disturbing my sleep" he said.
"Het spijt me (I'm sorry), Bunga. I've been looking for you everywhere. It turns out you're here, asleep."
Flowers rubbed his face. "What's looking for me?" tanyakanya.
"There's nothing. We usually spend time together. But, you left class first."
The flower again bows its head on the table. His eyes still felt heavy.
"Flower" called Jacob as he tapped on the girl's arm.
"Hmmm," said the Flower.
"What did you do last night?"
Flowers shuffle her hair. Jacob was completely unwilling to let her sleep in peace. "There's something that keeps me from sleeping."
"What, Bunga? You can tell me."
The flower looks at the friend with a blank look. "What happened to you, it happened to me too."
"Which one?" Jacob raised both his hands.
"Fouled."
Jacob's eyes were rounded. "You ... betrothed?"
The flowers are slow and weak. "Both of my parents betrothed me to a son of Kyai."
"Did you accept that match? Are you not going to finish your education? Are you getting married any minute?" Jacob leaned the Flower with questions. The young man's chest was pounding.
"No, Jacob," said the Flower. "Kyai's son is willing to wait for me until I finish my education."
"Not really. You know what I look like, Jacob. There's no way I'm going to accept that match. I don't want to get married, I mean, I don't want to get married young. I want to continue my education to college."
Jacob grabbed the Flower's hand quickly. "Yes, you can't get married, Bunga!" He clasped the girl's palm tightly.
Flowers raise their eyebrows. "What do you mean?"
"You can't marry me if you don't!"
Both pairs of eyes Flower patterned. He couldn't believe Jacob was still making that joke. The flower pulled his hand from Jacob's grasp, then gently struck the young man's head.
"Don't make jokes at times like this!" sulk Flowers. "I was thinking about how I was spared from that match."
"What if we just run away?" tawar Jacob's.
Back eye Flower patterning. "Please think clearly, Jacob!"
Jacob scratched his head while grimacing. It is the origin of speaking. After all where they were going to escape to, there was nowhere they could go.
"What's that guy like?" ask Jacob.
"ugly. It's so ugly."
Jacob breathed a sigh of relief. "Thankfully he was ugly. What if he's a handsome guy? Will you accept?"
Flowers stroked his beard. His smile expands. "Maybe."
Jacob was shaking his lips. "Luckily he was ugly," he muttered repeating his own words.
"I don't mind the appearance of a man. Only, his nature was also ugly. After all, there's still a lot I have to do and I don't want to be tied up in a relationship."
"I know" Jacob said, propping up his chin with his palm.
"You yourself? If you're engaged to Anna ...."
"I don't want to. There will be no engagement!" cut Jacob. "If my parents insist, I will tell them, I will never enter the military academy."
Once again the Flower exhaled his coarse breath. His eyes glared behind Jacob's back. "Maybe I should also threaten my parents like you."
"Do it, Flowers," support Jacob.
"But what can I use to threaten them?" ask Bunga without expecting an answer from Jacob.
"Whatever your parents forbid."
Flowers nodding. A moment later the girl smiled.
"Why is our fate the same, Jacob?"
