Climbing Mount Slamet

Climbing Mount Slamet
Chapter 27

The hour hand shows the time past midnight. But my eyes don't want to be closed either. My mind floated, thinking about the fate of my two best friends that I saw in the mirror earlier this afternoon.

I looked in the direction where the mirror was this afternoon. Empty, Robby must have moved it when I fell asleep earlier. I looked around, looking all over the room. It's quiet, that's all I feel. Even the night beast did not hear his voice. I turned back, pulled the blanket over my neck. Again trying to close the eyes because the clock has shown at the number two in the morning.

"Hmmmmm..."

I groaned withstanding the cold as I felt the pull of the blanket downward.

I felt the cold at the bottom. I grabbed the blanket that had covered almost my entire body. Niente. I who felt very sleepy because it had just closed was now forced to get up to grab a blanket that turned out to fall under the bed. Slowly I went down, leaning over to grab the blanket lying on the floor.

My eyes were rounded when I accidentally caught two red lights at the end of the room. As fast as lightning, I grabbed the blanket and I held it back all over my body. This time I closed my head. My breath was wheezing, my heart beating in an irregular race. Even the cool air from the air conditioning machine is no longer felt in this body. Sweat floods the entire body. Even the sweat on the body has flooded the clothes that were dry now turned wet.

I held my hand against the blanket when it felt like from down there someone was pulling my blanket down. My hands are cold because of fear. I want to scream to Mom. But it feels free. Mama's room is at the end, it will not be heard if I scream. What is, even the red-eyed figure will make me a monthly moon because it knows my fear.

I read short letters that I memorized. Read Istighfar many times to neutralize the increasingly unbearable fear. My sobs began to sound, it felt powerless I went through a night that felt very long this time.

The door to the room is open. The figure on my leg no longer pulls my blanket down. I felt a little relieved, but worry returned when guessing who opened the room door suddenly. A hand felt on my shoulder, moved up and tried to open the blanket on my face. I held back so hard that the blanket wouldn't open from my head.

"Jenna darling. What's up?" that voice made me cry loudly. I got up and rushed to hug the figure before me. The soft hand stroked the hair and then went down to the back. Slowly stroked and then patted slowly. I cried in his arms. But the figure I called Mama did not reply when he hugged me.

The cold felt again. Even the strong smell of the flowers pierced my sense of smell. I realized, immediately I opened my eyes and released the embrace of the female figure in front of me.

"Mama." call me softly to the figure who is just silent when I hold his hand.

"Some healthy?" I was shocked when the palms of the woman who gave birth to me felt so cold, as cold as ice as I held them.

"Ma." call me again. But Mama just looked at me while smiling sideways. I retreated, until my body hit the wall of the bed behind me.

"Jenne."

I was surprised when Mama's voice was not as usual. Even Mama's current voice sounded like the voice of someone who had long disappeared.

"Jenna, how are you?" ask the figure that resembles Mama to come closer. I who was already feeling cornered chose to step aside by standing slowly holding on to the wall of the room.

"Jenna. Don't you miss our memories?" again, the voice reminded me of the Dance that was being dragged by the creepy female figure inside the mirror.

"What do you want?" ask me with fear.

"Why don't you help me, Jen?" ask a figure that resembles my Mama's face.

"Jen, I'm here tormented. Why don't you help me?" Mama's getting closer, and I'm getting cornered.

"Don't come any closer." threatened me as I brandished the scissors towards the figure of a woman similar to Mama.

"Hahahaha.." The woman's laughter boomed. Filled the whole room.

"You dare harm me, Jenna?" ask the figure getting closer. My body is getting bigger.

"Just stab, Jen. Then this woman will die in your hands. Hahahaha.." I paused my intention to go ahead with sharp scissors. Remembering that the figure in front of me was Mama's body. Then I will hurt him if I continue with my intention.

I read the short letters I memorized. This time the chair verse also came with me to read as well. Wishing this figure in front of me would immediately go and stop bothering me.
