WHITE DEVIL

WHITE DEVIL
66 Ghosts of the Past II

The next day after the funeral.

There was still sobbing and sadness along the way. Residents mourn, looking down at each other with tears.

Arif and Sister Haz went through it all feeling guilty. A lifetime ago this time Kak Haz tackled a patient problem related to life and death, then failed. His pride shouted out time and time again, how stupid of me.

While beside him, Arif continued to step up with a petrified face. His eyes seemed to be no longer alive. Several times the calls addressed to him were not answered. Arif just kept stepping, ignoring all the frenzy.

“He must have been hit hard.” Batin Kak Haz.

Due to his dark past, Arif appreciates something called bonding. He upholds this, even in some aspects Arif is willing to budge as long as the bond can continue to be established.

However, for the first time Arif witnessed the broken bond right before his eyes before he explained anything.

Sadness and pain merge in the heart.

Brother Haz shifted his gaze elsewhere, “Better I let him alone first.” Murmured Brother Haz slowly.

“Children! You damned child! You brought shit!”

Those words were haunting Arif's mind right now, but there was no pain from it. His heartache comes from the departure of a figure he deeply hates.

Strange, Arif doesn't understand himself.

”Please convey my apology to him.”The short sentence filled his heart, making the body always vibrate and feel guilty.

“Thanks.” That's the sentence that came out of Kak Melati's mouth.

The woman lowered her head to pay her respects before her three guests left. Arif looked at him with a smell, it must be very painful to accept the fact that his father had just died.

Nevertheless, Kak Melati still trying to maintain a smile and even give her gratitude for the failure of Arif and Kak Haz.

In his heart, Arif really wants to reveal everything, the identity of himself who is a child he once saved, but Arif chose silence.

“Sorry we couldn't save him.” Arif answered while squeezing fingers, annoyed.

“It's okay. I believe you guys did your best. My dad there must be happy.” Those words came out with tears.

Watching it made Arif feel even more guilty. He looked down, threw his face away. Arif felt he had nowhere to put his face there.

“Then we say goodbye first, thank you for all the banquet that madam gave.” Said Kak Haz then the third passed from the yard of Kak Melati's house, leaving with a deep-rooted guilt in the heart.

“Can you tell me, Arif. You better not bear everything yourself.” Reveal Kak Haz on the buffalo train. Sheiny, beside him stroking Arif's shoulder, hoped that it could calm a troubled heart.

Orange light filled the sky, clouds were marching there in a beautiful formation. Under that shade, Arif was still downcast, thinking about whether he should just tell me.

“Kak Melati is very meritorious to me, Sister Melati has saved my childhood. He's the one who called Doctor Jago to guide me. Kak Melati also always accompany me to play even though it can make him a scorn of the population. Without him I might not be here. I felt obliged to return his favor and_” Sentence Arif stopped by tears that flowed back.

He further lowered his face and covered the tears with both palms. Sheiny doesn't know what to say, neither does Sister Haz.

Everything was silent until it arrived home.

It turned out that the pain was entrenched even stronger in the heart. This is the first time that Sister Haz has seen Arif this clover because of the loss of a person who was previously hated.

All day long Brother Haz thought of a solution to help his daughter-in-law.

Arif fell so far away that he was more often alone in a quiet place. His face seemed to lose spirit, his motivation was extinguished, everything was very burdensome for him.

This is where the role of a wife is.

Sheiny tried her best to always be close to her life partner.

“Kak Arif, remove those tears and eat this.” Sheiny said as she fed him when he had no appetite.

“Kak Arif, please wake up early!” He said he half yelled at Arif who woke up late.

“Clean your face it dong, belepotan.” Sheiny cleansed her husband's scabby face with food.

“Let Sheiny alone Brother. Kar Arif rest only.” Arif also with a step back, his duty replaced Sheiny.

It was a bit of love that Sheiny gave to her soulmate. Although Arif remained sullen and did not return all his attention, Sheiny still did all that with joy.

She felt obliged to return her husband's smile.

The effort paid off a few weeks later. Slowly but surely, a long-awaited smile was etched on his face. Arif also began to realize it, Sheiny was very attentive to him. It was none other than to help him out of the circle of eternal regret.

So on a sunny and warm morning, Arif decided to return all the kindness he had never realized before.

“Thank you very much for watching me and sorry for being a bad husband and daughter-in-law.” Said Arif loudly while bowing his head.

Light shone on his white hair and the morning wind blew between the three of them in the room.

Sister Haz smiled faintly, patted her daughter-in-law's shoulder and said, “This is also part of my duties as a in-law.”

Arif's eyes then looked at his wife who was smiling widely at him. Arif replied with the same smile. A happy morning.

Tok Tok Tok Tok Tok Tok Tok

The sound of knocking on the door.

All of a sudden, everyone turned to the source of the sound. “Let me just.” Haz got up and walked to the front door.

Suddenly blown by a dark wind in Arif's chest. His soul felt uneasy, Sheiny could catch it from Arif's expression. “There's a Kak_”

Not finished his sentence, Arif immediately rose up after Brother Haz.

It's a strange feeling, why did it appear? Inner Arif.

In front of him, Brother Haz invited two figures of the fairytale.

One was Kak Melati and the other was Aunt Nilam. Right, Aunt Nilam. Although he had not met for a long time, his mind concluded after paying attention to him for a while.

Arif's body is sculpted. In his head immediately turned the events that had passed a decade ago.

“Basic son accursed!”

“Your hair is white, it's terrible! The source of all misfortune and misfortune. A child like you is not worth being born!”

Sentences that come back from the past. Will the old wounds reopen?
