Ulong Dagger

Ulong Dagger
The Old Wolf

The whole man is shoulder to shoulder, building a trap in this village.

Fishing nets in pairs in the gardens, between the yam trees and the banana trees, are also crowded outside the village.

On the mesh hung various items of iron, spoons, forks, and others, so that it sounds when someone hits it. That way they will be able to immediately find out which part of the mesh hit the target.

While the women busy themselves by preparing consumption. Downstream and here and there. The lascar girls helped them with vigor.

Mardiani and Salhah grate the coconuts, while Laksmi grind the herbs near them.

Awang watched from afar, these girls worked cheerfully while telling stories, while Laksmi listened occasionally to join the buzz. I don't know what they discussed, it was too far for him to hear what they were talking about.

Arman, Mat Kecik, and Anggu Razak also helped the residents. Together they lifted fishing nets and helped the inhabitants set traps.

Ulong and Awang walked around and over to supervise the work so that everything was in accordance with the plan. Occasionally they help to stretch the net in pairs, or help tie it to poles and trees.

By noon the whole work was done, they rested and sat down to enjoy lunch by the beach. Under a tent that had just been set up for a gathering place.

Various fish, shrimp and crabs are served, the result of the wealth of the sea of this country.

Mat Kecik until glaring to see the seafood served. Back and forth he passed through the soup kitchen, stealing glances, wanting to know what was cooked, and now finally what he was waiting for arrived, time to eat.

"I eat near the cooking place, so it's easy if you want to add" he said.

Rustam as the village chief invited the audience to start eating.

Ulong sat next to Laksmi as usual, enjoying the dishes in front of them, while Awang surrounded by Mardiani and Salhah, Anggu Razak sitting not far from them.

Arman sat alone no matter Mat Kecik who was not nearby, he understood the character of his friend.

"Remember me, has Ki Bayu ever attacked during the day?", asked Ulong to the people who were there.

Everyone, including Awang and Arman looked at each other and shrugged.

"Why Long?" asked Arman.

"It seems that the sign left by Uncle Leman does not mean Fire" Ulong said.

"So?", asked Arman while chewing the food.

"Play light from fire" Ulong continued.

"He never appears during the day because his weakness will be exposed during the day, anything related to light will expose his science hoax" Ulong explained.

Everyone present was shocked, they also thought.

"That's one new clue, meaning with the help of light we can figure out Ki Bayu's weakness" Ulong concluded.

"And tonight we will make it bright" Ulong said.

"God!!" Mat Kecik screeched, simultaneously everyone turned towards him.

A woman had just placed a basin of uncooked crabs near Mat Kecik. It was so fun to eat Mat Kecik unconsciously then grabbed the living crab in the basin to put on his plate.

Not even late in the afternoon, some men brought all women and children, as well as the elderly and the sick on the canoe to the sea.

They do not need to be too far to the sea, just so that Ki Bayu and his pet can not reach them.

While the rest of the canoe is used by other men to hide in the sea not far from the beach, where there is a large enough coral sticking out of the water.

Before long the sun shifted to its perch, dusk changed with a dark night decorated with stars and crescent moons.

Ulong and the others immediately lit bonfires in some places.

The torches built here are also immediately lit.

The village also became bright. This is done for fishing, so that Ki Bayu assume that the villagers have returned.

Outside the houses are brightly lit while inside the houses themselves are not lit. This is intentional so that from inside the house can see out while from the outside can not see into the house.

The men and Ulong's entourage hid in three front row houses, because it was the closest place to the sea, and the safest, because Ki Bayu could not attack from the sea.

They waited inside the house peering out from the cracks of the plank walls, and alternately stood guard like Ulong's orders.

The atmosphere was so quiet that night, there was no sound other than the sound of the wind blowing on the trees outside.

Nothing happened until midnight. So even though they did not give up and kept waiting, they were really determined to catch Ki Bayu who had been terrorizing the coast for almost a month.

Take turns the men stand guard while the others rest recover their strength.

Finally, around dawn came the sound of wolves howling long in the distance.

Those on guard immediately woke up his resting friends.

Not a minute to hear another howling sound, this time getting closer.

They waited tensely, all the people who were in the three houses that were used as hiding places prepared their weapons.

Laksmi, Mardiani and Salhah, had prepared with arrows at the end near the arrowhead wrapped in cloth and moistened with coconut oil.

There was no sound until a moment.

Then there was the sound of the clattering of nets being hit by something in the northeast.

A clattering sound was heard many times followed by the sound of the growling of a savage beast.

One more sound rattled heavily, running from west to where the first trap sound sounded, then the sound of the dash stopped being replaced by the clattering sound of another trap there.

The clattering was heard many times, it seemed like the trapped creature was trying to break free.

"It's time" said Ulong.

Then he shouted from hiding, "SERBUU!!", as all the people hiding scattered out of the houses carrying additional weapons and nets.

Laksmi, Mardiani and Salhah came out of hiding to one of the torches with each of the arrows that had been provided before in the bow. The ends of their arrows wrapped in cloth were lit on torches and shot into space.

In the dark of the night three light arrows fly into space, the light is visible to far away.

That's a marker for the men hiding in the canoe behind the reef. Once they saw the sign, they also pedaled the boats with all their might to the beach to join and help their colleagues there.

Those who hid in the scattered houses chased in both directions, the origin of the clattering sound.

Ulong, Putra, and Mat Kecik ran towards the clattering sounds of traps in the west followed by dozens of men. While the rest of his entourage along with some other residents moved towards the Northeast towards the plantation.

Something enormous appeared in the darkness writhing, trying to break free from the traps of the fishing nets. The inhabitants who carried torches illuminated the creature.

This is the first time Ulong has seen Ki Bayu and his pet. Ulong was shocked and privileged in his heart, from his clear form this is not a creature from this world he thought.

Ki Bayu and the giant wolf on his mount struggled unable to move, involved fishing nets.

Their bodies are crammed with Ki Bayu's position on his mount tightly wedged.

A middle-aged man angrily came forward and slashed his machete.

"Hey wait, don't wait" Ulong said.

"He raped my daughter and killed her" the old man said angrily.

Some other residents follow along with spear and read out the body of Ki Bayu.

"Stop, you guys broke the nets" Ulong said.

Too late, Ki Bayu once the net on his body part torn there and took the opportunity to pull the keris at the waist.

No matter the attack he hit on his body he beat the keris to and fro to tear the mesh that wrapped it.

After his body was freed and managed to get out of the net, he retaliated against the attacks of the people who had ganged on him.

The first parent to read him was stricken with keris in the hand that held the machete.

The man complained then released the machete and held his hand which was struck by keris.

He moved backwards leaving the crowd.

Seeing that the attackers became daunted and stopped the attack.

Ki Bayu grabbed the machete that fell to the ground with his left hand.

With both hands he sabet-sabet kris and machete to free the giant wolf who is currently lying motionless because it is wrapped in the net.

"Dhuak!!", a big kick on Ki Bayu's rib, Mat Kecik who had been waiting for him.

Although it cannot be hurt but Ki Bayu can be stopped by physical attacks. That was the experience that Mat Kecik remembered when he first faced this old man.

Very hard kick Mat Kecik, Ki Bayu bounced sideways and then fell rolling.

The jolt slipped from his hand, while the dagger was still in hand.

"Add the net to the giant wolf", orders Ulong, the inhabitants hear it then cast an additional net to ensure that this giant wolf does not escape like Ki Bayu.

"In addition, take the remaining net to net Ki Bayu!!" Ulong.

Ki Bayu looked at Ulong furiously.

"Who is this young man"

"How could he recognize me" he thought.

"If I were netted again my address would never survive", inward Ki Bayu.

He dunked the left foot into the sand, then swiped the sand towards the attacker.

Ulong raised his arms to protect his eyes, some residents were exposed to sand and lowered their heads to clean their eyes.

The opportunity was not wasted Ki Bayu, he jumped back and then ran limping towards the trees in the south.

"Don't go after",

"we don't know for sure what he's prepared there" Ulong said.

"Follow our catch and hang it in the middle of the village, and surround it with torches" he ordered.

Had Ulong not seen for himself how Ki Bayu could not be harmed, of course he would have also released some daggers to prevent the old man from escaping.

The son, Mat Kecik and the villagers who were about to pursue stopped his steps following Ulong's orders.

They were so busy dragging the giant wolf that was unable to move, towards the beach, it could only growl and occasionally bark.

Before long Awang and the others also appeared while dragging wolves so the events they managed to catch.

"Where is Ki Bayu?" awang asked, his heartache was still felt as a result of his friends killed slaughtered the old man

"Flee the bang" Ulong said.

The residents who had been reading so that the trapping mesh Ki Bayu torn, looked down embarrassed.

After that Ulong ordered the villagers to erect a pole to hang these creatures, so that more freely observe.

The men erected four poles on four sides forming a square then the four poles connected with wooden bars tied at the top and bottom so as not to shake.

Wolves are still involved nets they hang there, while giant wolves are too big to hang then left alone lying in the sand near the wolf hanging on the pole.

Torches on display near the two wolves, bonfires were lit around it, so that they could know the true form of these wolves.

The two wolves were growling endlessly unable to move, wrapped in fishing nets.

Not far from there, Ki Bayu fled to the weeds while swearing.

"Damn it, really shit", he growled.

He did not expect the villagers' trick to succeed about it.

He regretted himself for believing too much in his abilities so he was caught off guard and fooled.

He ran south in the hope of finding a company patrol, so they could help him free his pet.

Suddenly a strong wind swirled around him, flying leaves and weeds.

Ki Bayu stared around, "not now, not now", he said.

Ki Bayu continued to run south with fear, something very terrible was following with the arrival of strong winds. He knows that's part of the deal he made.

Before long there was a faint growling sound in the middle of the wind, the growling sound became clearer and clearer.

Ki Bayu has difficulty running with his right leg that is not intact.

"Loser"

"Weak"

"Loser"

"Weak"

The voice sounded with a very heavy tone echoing following and surrounding Ki Bayu.

Then a very strong gust of wind hit him until he fell.

Meanwhile, on the beach,

Suddenly a strong wind blew around Ulong and the residents, then lightning began to strike earthy.

Ulong and the others looked up at the sky, where the bright star-covered sky was now covered in rolling clouds.

Many times the lightning struck made them able to see the black cloud scroll clearly.

"Shield, cover!!" said Awang, the residents took refuge on terraces and under the perches of the stilt house.

Lightning that snatched not long in replace the rain is very heavy.

The torches and bonfires were extinguished leaving nature completely dark.

"Something very evil is crossing this place" said Anggu Razak.

Awang looked at the old man, he also felt a strange state of this nature.
