Chapter 1: An Offer To Take, A Decision To Make

The Elves, Dwarves, and all those fantasies instantly disappeared after I opened my eyes. It was the slowly rotating fan that I saw right now, I just woke up from that very good sleep and was faced with the bitter reality of my condition right now

Yep, today this is my ability as an 'unbeatable' in the Old World game, a Grand Strategy type game whose basic is the same as its predecessors. I am one of the veterans of the first game released called Total Empires which is set in the Japanese empire during the Sengoku Jidai period

Then Grand Strategy itself is a genre where players become leaders of a country, players must be able to manage the country with existing resources that have been grouped such as food, money, and human labor

The Old World game itself is themed on the world before March, which is set in the first Punic war and will end when the player really controls the world

Building Rome is certainly easier than building Germania or maybe tribes in Africa, I myself prefer the challenge so usually I choose the country with the highest difficulty

The featured feature was its battle feature, it felt very realistic even far surpassing its predecessor

For example, even with a small unit, the player can face opponents with large numbers if used appropriately. Many unique formations presented are different by each country chosen

The features are so, but there is also a custom battle feature where we can determine what troops we will use and what troops will the enemy use

That's how this tournament goes, custom battle

This match is between me and the champion for two years, a lot of players who are enthusiastic about seeing this match. Even the Old World website itself will feature my match with the champion directly

There are also many live broadcasts on youtube about this match. It is very possible because the champion has survived for two years with the title, but the title "invincible" mine has survived since the first game release

So if concluded, the defending champion Old World against the defending champion of the genre game Grand Strategy. Isn't that very interesting? Between the two, surely one would lose the title of "defending champion"

The Old World's basic way of fighting was still exactly the same as its predecessor, the Infantry excelled over the Ranger, the Cavalry excelled over the Infantry, and their Rangers excelled over the Cavalry. However, everything also needs to be supported by the right conditions

The Rangers would benefit from attacking from afar, but when the Cavalry lunged at them directly then things would change quickly. Likewise with Cavalry when they hit the Infantry that has been transformed it will not be useful, even wasting the unit name

Another condition I mean is the mental forces that are very influential in battle. I often use it in battle

But in order to understand the best formation, I read many books about it. Among them are the story of Alexander the Great, the first Punic war to the third, and the story of the three kingdoms

To deploy a lot of companion cavalry, the champion had to give up the Phalanx formation which became the core of the Macedonian army. There were actually four different types of Phalanx infantry at different prices in the royal unit in the game, but since he wore too many Companion cavalry then he had to use the cheapest Phalanx army

Even so, the Phalanx is still a formation that must be avoided both expensive and cheap units. But the main problem is with the Companion

Since that is the plan, I need a sufficient number of Archery units with the widest range, then I need Sword-type Infantry troops, and for the cavalry I need the Cavalry Range

For that, I had to use a country that was famous for its cheap Cavalry Range ability and the famous infantry swordsman. That's how I chose the Lusitanians, they lived on the Iberian peninsula or Hispania which now stands the country of Spain and Portugal

They did have poor equipment like the country with other tribal traits, but still, this was the perfect plan

The Companion cavalry would be completely restricted in its movements due to this unit, the Phalanx formation was indeed strong holding the Infantry but not with long-range attacks. Moreover, the unit used by the champion is the cheapest unit

The battle went on as if under my control, slowly but surely the troops of the champion I eroded the number. He also managed to surround a unit containing 120 swordman soldiers belonging to me, but even that was according to plan

Until the champion makes a desperate move, he sends all his Companion cavalry towards my range unit. This was a brilliant stupid tactic, the companion was a cavalry with good endurance so it could receive several waves of arrows before mentally descending

I was a bit surprised to see it, but it's actually the best way to go against my formation, unfortunately I anticipated everything

Easy computer also did the same when he was in the position of the champion, he did not hesitate to deploy all units of his first companion to hit my range unit. So I already know how to handle it

The trick is to sacrifice my Cavalry Range unit by facing their direct Companion. When they fight then the range unit will fire at my Companion and Archer Cav simultaneously

Losing the Cavalry Range doesn't mean much to me, but losing the Companion means everything to the champion

There is another feature that we use in Old World games, which is about friendly fire. Here, somehow the arrows of my unit will be lower the chances of friendly fire than the possibility of being hit by the enemy

So even though the defenses of the Cavalry Range were inferior to the Companion Cavalry, they were killed at the same time under my Ranger arrows

Next I sent the Infantry to make a line behind the massacre, the purpose of which was to hold off the enemy Infantry who canceled his Phalanx formation to help their Companion

When not in the Phalanx formation, their Infantry would fight using a sword. That means our troops will compete in agility in sword, and you can imagine who will win, because my troops are specialized in the field of Swordman

Since it's definitely won, I saw the live broadcast of the champion. He just kept silent without saying anything not even moving his mouse
