Chapter 14
"Auntie, what are you talking about with my mom?" ask Ethan.
Aunty's face flushed red and she waved her hand, "Oh no, it's okay."
He quickly disappeared after saying that. She originally intended to make more fun of April's family since she was scolded after they rejected the boy she introduced them to. But he did not dare anymore!
The boy who worked as a PNS was only earning four or five thousand a month. He would probably never be able to drive such an expensive car in his entire life!
April just stood there in shock. William's mouth was also wide open, and could not speak.
None of them can believe it.
"This car…"
April took a long breath. He thinks Diane's kidding.
He doesn't think Ethan can afford it, and he also knows Diane really can't afford it.
"Where's the scooter?"
William realizes Diane's scooter is missing and quickly asks. They have spent over $2,000 on it.
"The car shop is holding a trade promotion, so we're swapping it for a new vehicle."
Diane's face was red because she was so bad at lying. But Ethan's face was very natural, and said this answer without batting an eye.
He almost fell when he heard this.
Which stores allow customers to swap scooters for BMWs?
William doesn't believe, neither does April. They're not stupid.
“Actually there is a draw..” Diane goes to great lengths thinking about how to spin a realistic story, but she really can't lie.
"Ethan bought it!"
He finally said it. It's much easier to tell the truth.
April gazes strangely at Ethan, and it seems she believes him.
This new daughter-in-law had surprised him since the first day he walked into the house.
He had defended her and slapped Archie, protecting their entire family from the start. Although he has not accepted Ethan, his heart is made of flesh.
"Alright, there's no need to explain to us."
April ignored. Her heart felt much better after seeing how the obnoxious aunt had to keep her mouth shut.
He looked at Ethan seriously but said nothing. Then he pushed William back home.
"My mom believes?" ask Dian softly.
"Does that matter?"
From afar she had seen how the aunt had clearly made things difficult for April. So of course, he would not reply politely and would reply back in April.
Nor would he let anyone bully his mother-in-law.
Ethan says, "Come on, let's go home and eat."
April's cooking isn't bad. Or at least Ethan thinks so.
He had traveled around the world and had eaten all sorts of delicious food. He had even eaten in places that cost him a million dollars for one meal, but he had never eaten home-cooked food.
When she sees Ethan eating like he hasn't eaten in years, like a tornado passing the dinner table, April's eyebrows start twitching. He began to wonder to himself, was his cooking really that good?
"Ethan, let me ask you a question."
After a long time, William managed to ask, "The car is – did you really buy it?"
He still can't believe it. The price is almost $500,000!
"Yup. It was just a car, there was no need to shock all," Ethan spoke without raising his head. "Dad, after your feet heal, I'll buy you too."
This statement made the entire house go silent for a moment.
Ethan now looked up and saw helplessness and despair on William's face. April's eyes were red and teary, while Diane sighed sadly.
"My feet ..." William laughed bitterly and shook his head.
There is no chance that he will recover. He is now a useless man. For the rest of his life.
"I know a doctor who is an expert in this field, he should be able to do something."
Ethan's words make William look up.
But then he thought more about it. Ethan is a homeless man, what extraordinary person can he know? This person seemed quite honest, but he really liked to boast.
He knows Ethan's not a regular guy. Although he only knew her for two days, Ethan had not hidden everything from her, and had shown some of her abilities.
"of course. He's busy overseas now, but once he's done, I'll make him come to Greencliff" Ethan said casually.
"Rea...really?" William asked worriedly.
Ethan nodded. "Don't worry."
William became a little annoyed, but April gently patted his hand and he became calm.
Can this new son-in-law be trusted?
After eating, William returned to his room, while Diane went to his room to prepare the documents she needed for the afternoon. Ethan sits on the living room couch and watches TV.
"Ethan, come here for a second" April called him.
Ethan walks into the kitchen and sees the knife in April's hand. His face remained calm and there was even a faint smile on his face.
"Mom, are you looking for me?"
April doesn't care how Ethan calls her.
He glared at Ethan and said very seriously, "Who are you? What's your motive for approaching Diane? If you want to hurt her, I will fight you even if it sacrifices my life!"
April is not stupid. Ethan so far doesn't look like a bum at all. And he clearly doesn't look like the weak stereotype that would decide to marry into his wife's family.
On the contrary, Ethan is extremely powerful and domineering! Today he even casually bought a car for several hundred thousand. You call this a homeless man?
"Mom, I can guarantee that I have no ill intentions towards Diane, you, or Father."
Ethan calmly replies, "I want to be by Diane's side to protect her, so she won't be bullied by others."
April still glares at Ethan and says nothing for a long time.
"Why?" He finally asked after a while.
"He saved my life before."
Ethan took a deep breath, his memory going back to the time fifteen years ago. "There are some things I can't tell you right now, but please believe me. When the time is right, you'll know everything."
A room door opened and April quickly pushed the knife away. He whispered, "I'll trust you for now, but you shouldn't touch Diane, don't destroy her!"
Ethan nodded.
"Have you got all your documents?"
Ethan's out of the kitchen. "Let's go, I'll send you to the office."
He then pushed Diane out the door and sent her to the Palmer Group office.
…
Palmer Group Headquarters, CEO Office.
"Have found?"
Steven asked with a cold expression.
"Yes." Yeah." Archi smiled coldly. He had spent $500,000 to get an answer from one of Tom Foster's subordinates.
"Before Tom Foster became rich, he was also a homeless man and nearly starved to death. But Ethan gives her half of his bread and saves her. The two of them had once lived under a bridge together and could be considered acquaintances. Tom Foster just returned the favor to her."
She's upset.
It was hard for her to accept that the truth was not because Diane had sold herself to Tom Foster, but that was because of the useless Ethan who was married to that family!
"Can't believe. Look who you chose!" Steven shouted in anger.
Ethan was actually chosen by Archie. He deliberately chose a homeless man who was mentally unstable.
But who knew that this Ethan actually had such a past with Tom Foster?
"Dad, relax. For people like Tom Foster, once they get rich, he won't let go of his old comrades. Once he returns the favor to a homeless man like Ethan, it's done!"
Archie continued viciously, "After Diane and the family used this one opportunity, who else would help them now?"
Stevan narrowed his eyes. He knows people like Tom Foster very well. They are cruel and vicious in secret, but make themselves look good on the surface. Returning help to someone he knew when he was homeless might even make him look better.
But it's about that.
He's determined to make Ethan pay for humiliating him, and he'll make him pay more than what he's been through!
"Have you arranged everything in the factory?"
"All done!" Archie laughed coldly. "Diane will definitely regret taking this project back!"
