Stiff Corpse

Stiff Corpse
First Corpse

I can't sleep, I still can't accept this. Yeah, I'm very idealistic. The science taught in forensics used to be nothing like this. But my lazy side is grateful, I do not need to be tired of doing a visa. Every time a body is sent here, I just need to write a death certificate according to the witness's testimony, no need to check anything. The police and family also understand this, according to Mas Joko, right? As long as there is an agreement between the parties, there will definitely be no demands. It's delicious, I actually ate a blind paycheck, haha. I tried to calm my mind, looking for reasons to make peace with my idealism.

Still, my drowsiness hasn't risen. My eyes kept open, fixed on the clock that ticked towards the number 12. It's midnight. I hope that soon at seven in the morning, the patient in this hospital is quite quiet at night. Yeah, my patient from there were only a few elderly people in the afternoon and the woman who died. Even though he's my patient but he's lifeless, I hate corpses. I still couldn't sleep, but it was midnight.

'HOOOEEEEEEEKKKK"

Suddenly I heard the sound of someone vomiting from the ground floor. Well, there's a patient this night. I got up from the bed and jumped down.

When I got downstairs I saw no one. I didn't see Mas Joko either. But the voice was still heard several times. I'm trying to follow the source of that voice, it looks like it came from Doctor Denny's check room. Where the hell is Mas Joko?!

I rushed in, but there was no sign of life. The voice was becoming clearer. I gasp, I put my senses to rest. It seems that the sound came from the direction of the left wall near the check bed, from the next room? Out of curiosity I climbed on the bed and stuck my ear to the wall. Not wrong again, the sound came from the next room.wait!

As the cold pounced on my body, my blood whirred to the crown, and my heart skipped so fast. I still couldn't believe it, I stuck my ear once again, trying to focus on listening carefully. But the sound of vomit mixed with cough was getting louder. I immediately ran out of the check room, looking for Mas Joko. That woman is alive!

I found Mas Joko fast asleep in the ER. He slept very well, several times I wiggled his body, still did not wake him. Really yes..my nurse this one.. at this crucial moment.

Without a second thought I felt her pocket, immediately looking for the lock. The pocket was empty, I was upset. My eyes were rolling around, I finally found it on the ER check table. Immediately I snatched the key and ran out of the pukesmas towards the morgue. I ran while slightly shivering, the mountain air that night was quite cold.

Then I opened the glass door in a hurry. The lamp of the empty room was still on, even though the light was dim. With the help of that light as well, I sorted through some of the keys that were dangling into that one, looking for which key to this mortuary padlock was. I was a little nervous because the voice of the woman was heard more and more often and loudly. It was as if he was trying to spit out something in his throat.

I'm trying to get in, into the keyhole, some keys that I think are appropriate. After some experimentation, the chain lock was opened. The iron sound of the lock and chain clashing, made the woman's vomit sound suddenly stop.

"Mbak.. patience, I open it". I said a little nervously. That's my guess! It should have been checked if it was really dead or not. We can be sued by his family this way, seriously. I try to ignore my anxiety. Now I have to get that woman out. I can imagine her angry face.

In a hurry, I removed the chain shackles from the door leaf. After the door opened, I saw the woman sitting facing the door, bowing her head. I can only see the shadow at a glance. Only then did I see the woman clearly after I turned on the light.

"Sir.." I admonished him slowly.

The woman still sat down, her long hair down and covered her face. The short-sleeved pink shirt she wore allowed me to see a lot of bruises on her arms.

"Sorry... Come on in, sleep in the puskesmas room, it's cold..." I said with a little nervousness.

I ventured into her hands, her hands stiff and cold like ice, like may...

"HHHHHHH!!" I took my hand off her.

At once the woman got up and showed me her face. His face was pale blue, his eyes were dark black, and from his mouth dripped a white liquid. He walked up to me while continuously spewing out white liquid from his mouth. His movements were strangely broken, like a puppet being forced into motion. I looked in shock. His bruised hand was trying to grab me, I reflexed, clenching his hand firmly.

.....................................................................

The sunlight shone brightly from that second-floor window. The heat shone on my eyelids. I tried to open my eyes, but the light was dazzling. I can only squint my eyes while changing my sleeping position to a place that is not exposed to light. My forehead was painful like being struck by lightning. I squealed, withstanding the pain, before my eyes finally widened in shock?

I woke up in the doctor's bedroom upstairs, what happened? I looked up at the wall clock, it was eight in the morning. Instantly I immediately remembered the terrible incident last night. I got out of the doctor's room and went downstairs.

That woman cannot live! The bruised corpse, the stiffened corpse, and the body temperature that had already dropped, it was clearly a corpse! the undead! I didn't see it wrong, did I? Am I fantasizing? My heart was beating like a horse running around.

"Lho's up Doc?"

I gasped, immediately stopping my steps "Eh already ma'am... hehe.." I stammered. I'm still a little sleepy.

Under the ramp stairs I was greeted by the mother of the laboran who was about to go upstairs. After greeting for a while I immediately went from before him and headed out the puskesmas.

Outside I was presented with a sad sight. Mr. Badrun, Dr. Denny, and a policeman were standing by to see the woman's body put in an ambulance by Mas Joko and several men. The body was wrapped in some white cloth, and was stretchered off in an ER gurney to an ambulance, which was waiting at the gate of the puskesmas.

Regardless of what was going on, I ran over. The four of them were surprised to see me running towards the ambulance, and approaching the corpse. Mas Joko and a few people - who turned out to be the family of the woman - were shocked when I tried to unscrew her face. I really need to make sure that what I saw last night is real. Pale on his face was exactly like last night, only no more white searches were dripping. I was not satisfied, I opened the covering cloth that covered her body. I scanned the arms of the corpse, before Mas Joko finally stopped me.

"Dok sorry..do not open the dock.. already want to be buried" he said while holding my hand.

I looked at Mas Joko with fear. The other family, who had not taken up the body, glared at what I had done.

"Doctor Sultan... What's wrong, Doc?" Mr. Badrun, Doctor Denny and the police came closer, after seeing what I had done, I surprised everyone.

"Emmm... N-no papa doc.. hehe. sorry sir.. ma'am.." I covered the body and face with a cloth, then went away from the crowd.

I couldn't stem my fear, my face was deathly pale. Fear, anxiety, and confusion all ambushed suddenly. I ran back into the puskesmas and sat in the patient's waiting chair. Not long after, Doctor Denny and Mas Joko came up to me. They looked worried, I just stared at them while continuing to hold back the trembling in my body.

Doctor Denny then explained to me about this puskesmas procedure in handling the body. It was like that, the corpse that came was immediately put into the morgue and locked. Then one day or half the next day just continued the process of handling his body with the police. And the mortuary locked by the iron chains was devoted to the villagers only, the bodies that were not from this village were not allowed to use the mortuary facilities. Doctor Denny confirmed the strange story of Joko last night. I just bowed pale. They continued to explain to me with frightened and worried faces, assuring me that the procedure was not wrong. The police have even received and read the death report I wrote last night. They said the police did not need the report.

I can only nod. I was so scared, my blood rippled from end to end, my heart was pounding. Am I still sleepy? I'm not unable to accept their explanation, I just can't face reality. The fact that I saw the former grip of my hand on the arm of the woman's corpse.
