Kuchisake Onna (Female with a torn mouth)



Why is it called a torn-mouthed woman or kuchisake onna? It is said that this ghost is a kind of demon in Japanese mythology and urban legend. She was a woman who always covered her torn mouth.


Some say that he was the victim of a failed facial surgery, and the doctor who operated on him accidentally cut his mouth to tears. The woman became hysterical and angry and killed the doctor. The woman was later killed by the townspeople and became a curious ghost.


In the Japanese version of urban legend, the onna kuchisake is a young woman living in the Heian period who is likely to be a samurai wife or concubine. She is very beautiful but arrogant, she also often cheats. Then her husband felt jealous because he had been betrayed, then attacked his wife and tore her mouth to the ears.


It is said that he often walks in a quiet place and when he meets people he will ask “Am I beautiful?”. If the person who answered “Ya”, then he will open his mask and ask again, “Even when it is like this?”. Usually because of surprise and fear then answer “not”, it will be killed.


But there are also those who say, if you want to survive this onna kuchisake then just answer “ mediocre” or “bemah”. Because by answering it will make onna kuchisake confused and there is time to escape. Another way is to give hard candy dark yellow because he likes it.


Can also say “pomde” as much as 3 or 6 times, then kuchisake onna will feel scared and run because it reminds him of the incident that made him become like that. Or you can use pomde to prevent it from following.
