"What are you doing, Da?" burhan asked approaching Ida who was sitting in front of the furnace.
Ida stopped the movement of her hand that was stirring the dough in the basin that was on her lap, turning her eyes to Burhan.
"I made a pinukuik[1], yesterday Isah's book taught me," he said as he wiped the sweat that ran through his forehead.
"So you learned how to cook your husband's favorite food, huh?" burhan said with a big smile.
"Oh, is this your favorite meal?"
"Yes, I'll tell you about my other favorite foods, yeah. Let me taste my wife's cooking. Is something ripe?" Burhan looked at the furnace where Ida was cooking.
"Here you go, sir, would you like a kawa drinking buddy[2]?"
"Can. I'm waiting in front ya."
"Okay, you wait in front. It's not good for men to linger in the kitchen," he kicked out.
"Haha it's the same with amak, Da," Burhan skipped as he passed up the stairs to the living room.
------------°°°°°°°°-----------
"This is the drink sir, be careful still hot." Ida placed the drink glass and the plate containing the food that was still puffing smoke on the table.
As he was about to return to the kitchen, Burhan held his hand.
"Where are you going, Da?"
"To continue cooking the pins, I still haven't finished cooking them."
"You accompany me here, let Isah's book continue to cook it," Burhan's pinta tightened his grip on his wife's wrist.
Ida misbehaved, the gaze of the mature brown-skinned man seemed to make his heart sound the drumbeat.
"Yes, Sir." Ida sat on the opposite seat to Burhan.
"You sit next to me." Burhan pulled back Ida's hand, forcing Ida to stand up and sit next to him.
"I'm still sweating" said Ida.
His hand rubbed his hair trying to tidy up his hair that came out of his condition.
"You look sweet when you're wrong" Burhan said.
"Don't tease me!" sudang Ida's.
His face turned red, his irregular heartbeat made him even more misbehaved.
"Haha ... Why are you like a fish out of water so, Da." Burhan was laughing more and more to see Ida who was increasingly wrong.
"G ... I'd better go back to the kitchen, if you're just gonna tease me." Ida got up from her seat.
"Haha ... Don't sulk like that, Da. What's wrong with me joking with my wife" Burhan's grin becomes increasingly seductive of Ida.
"I don't know where the funny thing is, sir," Ida said with a confused and flushed face.
Burhan stopped his laughter, he coughed withholding his laughter seeing Ida's reddened face.
"There'll be a night market, won't you go there?" burhan asked with a serious face.
Ida scrunched her forehead. To grate what he was about to talk about.
Burhan took the cake that was sitting on the table, ate it in one bite.
"It's better your pinukuik from the book of Isah, Da," said Burhan.
"Master was over-complaining" Ida said, looking down in embarrassment.
"That's good, Da. I'm not making it up."
Burhan picked up the last cookie on the plate, chewing it quickly. Then sip the drink.
"So, you want to go to the night market?"
"I'm not used to such a place, sir."
"It's okay, Da. Let's not get bored at home. Anyway, next week I'm leaving for Kuantan Bay. Let's not miss if I stay long." Burhan tries to persuade Ida.
Ida laughed at the persuasion of her husband,
"Master sounds like a desperate man."
"You're going to repay me?" Burhan tickled Ida's waist.
Ida tried to sniff but suddenly grimaced in pain.
"Why, Da?" Burhan's face looked worried by Ida's sudden change.
"I'm sorry, Da. I'm making you sick" Burhan said, pulling Ida's body into his arms.
Silent. Ida's feelings are getting mixed. The soft aroma of casturi oil that Burhan used infiltrated into his sense of smell made his heart beat again faster. He tried to calm himself.
"Ma ...." The sound of Isah buk from the direction of the hallway made Ida jump, and she immediately pushed Burhan's body.
"Yes, Buk," said Ida trying to cover her nervousness.
"Why did you let my pins get charred." Buk Isah emerged from the hallway.
"Astaghfiullah! I forgot to turn off the furnace fire buk!" tekik Ida half ran to the kitchen leaving Burhan who chuckled softly to see Ida who was wronged.
"Haha ... Why is your wife, Han?" kekeh buk Isah saw Ida's panic.
"My fault is also buk, Ida was cooking, I asked to accompany her to drink kawa," said Burhan while scratching his head that does not itch.
--------°°°°°°°°°---------------
"Da, so don't we go to the night market? Later there will be a stage play as well," asked Burhan when he saw Ida finished reading the scriptures.
Ida folded up the mukena and the sheath she was wearing, putting it on the edge of the bed. It was a long time before he finally answered,
" good, Sir. I'll pack up first."
Approaching the night market, there was the sound of saluang[3] and dendang who called out the sound of a dendang. The atmosphere of the night market makes Ida nervous. He never felt comfortable in the crowd.
The last time he went to the night market with his adoptive family in Bukittinggi was a dozen years ago. The festivity of the night market, as well as the lack of illumination, set him apart from Ama, his adoptive mother. Ida, who was eight years old, was very frightened. That feeling was very deep in his memory. It was that experience that made him fear the crowd.
Burhan, who saw the changes in Ida's movements, pulled and held his wife's hand. Ida flinched as Burhan's hand clasped her hand. He looked up, saw Burhan smiling at him as if convincing that there was nothing to worry about.
"Sir, Madam, watch the play that will soon take place ...." A young man cheerfully informs the visitors of the night market.
"Let's hurry, Da. So we can get a nice seat," Burhan asked.
They hurried to walk towards the stage that was already crowded with visitors. Some of them already occupy the seats in the front row of the stage.
That night the show tells the story of Cindua Mato, the story of the people of Minangkabau with the background of the kingdom of Pagaruyung. Ida carried the mood of the story. Sometimes he gasps when the actor plays a fight scene, he also shows a relieved face when Cindua Mato managed to defeat the Bangkuak Pole.
After the theatrical performance, the audience who left the venue made Ida feel nervous again.
"Already, no need to worry. I'm holding you" Burhan said to Ida's ear.
This time Ida smiled looking at her husband. Burhan's attitude of trying to pay attention to him made him feel comfortable.
"Thank you" Burhan said back to Ida's ear.
"For what sir, thank you?" asked Ida in surprise, looking back at her husband.
"For your smile" said Burhan, smiling softly.
Ida felt her face heat up. He immediately lowered his face. Can't he stare for long at the smile of the owner's sharp eyes. Even though the atmosphere of the night market was not too bright, Ida could feel Burhan's gaze still on her.
Shortly afterwards, Ida again felt the atmosphere of the night market back boisterous when they approached one of the stages located across the field where the stage was located. There was the sound of drumming and pantun from a man standing on the stage who was then greeted by cheers from the audience.
"You're trying to play Kim [4] no, Da?" burhan asked when he heard the sound of a drum chanted by the pendendendang on the opposite stage.
"Wouldn't we go home, sir? I'm getting sleepy anyway, it looks like it's going to rain soon." Ida pointed at the sky.
The light of the full moon that was shining brightly began to look dark covered with clouds. The blowing wind had also started to bring cold air. Ida put the jacket she was wearing in her brackets.
" Ah, good then. Let's just go home."
They walked out of the night market. Leaving the hustle and bustle of the place. Silence prevailed when they were away from where the night market was held.
"Da, your face reminds me of the full moon" Burhan said trying to drive away the silence between them.
"Ah, how ugly is my face?" ida's grouse.
"Why do you say that, Da?" Burhan was shocked to hear Ida's reply. He wanted to praise his wife to feel happy, but his wife even showed dislike.
"Let's look again at the full moon, the many holes on its surface. While my face is not so," said Ida cupped both palms on her cheek.
"Awha ... There's-There's just you, Da!" burhan's gelak bobbing heads. He ran out of words, confused about how to explain to his wife.
Ida only replied with a confused look, which part of her sentence was felt funny by Burhan, to make him laugh.
