SET DUSK
The Part 21

The sky began to darken, in some places still visible hotspots coming from the homes of residents who were burning. Some of the buildings that were burning were still smoking. The streets were filled with people who began to flee.

The truck was slow, when Ida noticed that they were walking along to leave Bukittinggi. Suddenly he remembered something.

"Master Shamsyr," call Ida.

"Yes?" Shamsyr who had leaned his head against the wall of the truck was shocked and turned to Ida.

"I just remembered something. He said Mr. was standing not far from the bombed house. How did you save yourself?" ask Ida to investigate, considering the fatal wound caused by the bomb, but the wound suffered by Shamsyr only in the temple.

"Oh, I didn't say that the bomb didn't go off?" shamsyr asked with a smile.

Ida shakes. His eyes could not help but look at the face of the young man beside him. It is still a wonder why the young man survived the bomb explosion.

"The bomb fell on the building, but it didn't explode. So I was only hit by the ruins of the building," continued Syamsyir.

"Ooh, thank God the bomb didn't explode huh," Ida said as she breathed a sigh of relief.

"Yes. You're glad I saw I'm safe, right?" goda Shamsyr.

"Yes of course I'm happy, where there are people who are happy to see their friends hurt to death" Ida said.

"Haha yes ... But that's not what I mean," Shamsyr pressed his head.

"Then what was it like?" ask Ida wonder.

"Ah, you are indeed insensitive, Da!" sambar Rizal's.

Ida scrunched her forehead, not understanding what Rizal meant.

"I asked him. Which part makes me less sensitive!" suduk Ida is no less fierce.

"Ah already, later we disturb the others," lerai Shamsyr.

Ida finally chose to be quiet. Syamsyir and Rizal again leaned his head against the wall of the truck.

"Where is our goal?" ask Ida later.

"Ke Jirek" answered one of the soldiers sitting across from them.

"Why are we riding in the truck? Can't we just walk to Jirek?"

"Let's hurry, all of you carry items that can still be brought from the headquarters" the man explained.

Ida tried to see clearly who was in front of them. The sunlight that was already completely gone made the atmosphere inside the truck dark. Failing to recognize the face of the lascars sitting in front of them, Ida chose silence and leaned her body against the wall of the truck. Calm down the little tension he felt from the morning.

Shortly after, they arrived at an old building that was still standing. Although around it was seen ravaged by the Dutch attack this morning. Those who were inside the truck immediately went down without much command.

"Yes!"

Ida looked over, seeing who was calling her.

"Thank God, Yani! You survived" cried Ida running to greet her partner.

"Yes, there was someone who pulled me out of the headquarters when the headquarters in Bom," said Yani.

"You hurt?" asked Ida when she saw her shirt with blood stains.

"No, it's Ima's blood. He did not survive." Yani's face looked sad.

"Innalilahi ...."

"His body is still hit by the ruins of the headquarters, Da." Yani's crying broke.

Ida is unable to speak. A moment like this made him recall the events in the Sincin. Although accustomed to receiving news of the death of people he knew, but he was still not really able to heal his heart would lose Maryam.

"Da, he said you were going to clean my wounds" Shamsyr said.

"Ah yes. We go over there, yes" point Ida towards the room that already has lighting.

"Yan, did you bring your equipment? Mr. Rizal was also injured. It looks like the wound also has to be cleaned immediately," Ida told Yani.

"I didn't bring Da," Yani replied with a sad face.

"Oh, then let me be clean later."

Deftly Ida cleans and sews wounds in the temple of Shamsyr.

"Thank you, Da," Shamsyr said.

A smile grew on his lips, making his almond-shaped eyes into a line with a thick eyebrow arch that overshadowed him.

"Hey, haven't you?" rizal Tegur.

"It's done, Da?" tanya Syamsyir made sure to Ida.

"Already," answered Ida briefly.

It turned out that Rizal's wound was quite severe, there was a larger gaping wound on his shoulder.

"A little bit, but I'm used to it. So it's not too much for me to feel" Rizal replied.

Ida begins to sew Rizal's wounds, but is stopped when Rizal screams.

"You said you were used to it" cried Ida.

"But it hurts so much!" jerrit Rizal.

"You're like a wounded girl, Zal," said Shamsyr.

"Yes, Mr. Shamshir I sewed not like this. You're overreacting," ridiculed Ida.

"Yes, because Shamshir has an antidote," replied Rizal.

"Oh yeah? What's?" ask Ida wonder.

"Ah it is difficult to talk to someone who is insensitive" said Rizal.

"I'm confused, you said I was insensitive. Which part?" sudang Ida's.

"Ah already! Wanna see when your wound will be sewn," lerai Shamsyr.

"Well, you just bite this when Ida stitches your wound!" Shamsyr gave a small piece of wood to Rizal.

Even with a little grumbling, Rizal received Shamsyr's gift, biting the piece of wood. Several times he closed his eyes withstanding the pain when the needle Ida used to sew the wound pierced his skin.

"Well! It's finished! You try to find clean clothes inside. Who knows if someone still has clean clothes. Your shirt is full of blood" Ida said.

"good. Thank you Miss nurse," Rizal said with a witty smile.

That night PMI officers who only lived four people were made busy taking care of the injured victims.

"You rest first, Da," said Shamsyr when he saw Ida was still busy taking care of the wounded soldiers.

"I haven't finished my work yet" said Ida.

"But you don't push yourself."

"Yes, if everything's done, I'll take a break."

Shamsyr left Ida. Continuing his task to fix the items they brought from Birugo.

Two days after they moved the headquarters, they were instructed again to move the headquarters towards the outskirts of Bukittinggi because the Dutch had managed to control Bukittinggi.

That morning, when dawn began to break. They began transporting some of the remaining weapons stockpiles into the truck. The cold air of Bukittinggi city pierced the skin, making Ida who was only wearing a thin cotton shirt, shiver.

"You wear this" said Syamsyir handed him a jacket made of thick brown wool.

Ida hesitated to take the jacket.

"Wear it" forcibly Shamsyr handed the jacket over to Ida.

The jacket with the Army uniform model felt heavy in Ida's hands. When he put it on, he chuckled.

"Why?" shamsyir asked in surprise to see Ida who chuckled after wearing her gift jacket.

"I'm like a toak-toak*," Ida's voice stretched out her hand.

Syamsyir was amazed to see the girl who rarely smiled showed her smile. Two dimples decorate her round cheeks. And his narrow eyes seemed to disappear when he smiled. Syamsyir is wrong.

"You look like a Japanese doll," he chuckled while scratching his non-itchy head.

Ida gawking.

"What looks like a Japanese doll" his protest then left Syamsyir who is still misbehaved.

The process of moving the headquarters that day went smoothly even in the midst of the onslaught of Dutch aircraft. The truck they were riding on was slowly moving towards North Bukittinggi.

Ida was sleepy as the morning air swept across her face. Stomach that has not been filled makes drowsiness he can not stand it anymore. His head was swaying as the truck they were riding on passed through the uneven road.

He gasped in shock, as the truck tires slammed into a rather deep hole. His head hit the head of the person next to him. He grimaced wiping his banged forehead.

"Sorry to hurt?" Seringai.

"Why are you here?" asked Ida astonished to see Shamsyr who was beside her. When he left, Yani was the one beside him.

"Yani moved to the end, it's too cold here." Syamsyir pointed with his chin to the inside of the truck.

Ida saw Yani curled up on the inside end of the truck between piles of blankets.

"Where are we being taken?" tanya Ida beats awkwardness.

"To Palupuh," Shamsyr replied briefly.

Ida just nodded. Looking for talk material is not his forte. He chose to remain silent, resting his head back on the large toolbox beside him, until he fell asleep again.
