That morning Nining and her mother had just returned from the market. Both were shocked not to play when they found a man standing on the porch of his house.
"Mas Rayhan? This is true, Mas Rayhan, isn't it? Or I'm just a dream." Nining rubbed her eyes repeatedly.
"It's me, Rayhan."
"Mas Rayhan why are you here again? Uh... I mean why is it that this early morning Mas Rayhan is in front of my house?"
"I came here to pick up Shanum."
"Loh, I got picked up anyway Mas. Wasn't it yesterday Mas Rayhan himself who said that as long as Shanum's leg was still sick, wanted to be left in my house first?"
"My grandmother asked me to pick her up. He wants Shanum to get treatment at the hospital."
"God, Shanum is very lucky to be surrounded by good people" said the wide-hijab girl.
"I'm sorry, I forgot. Let's go in, Mas. Shanum's in his room."
The three then entered the living room.
"Wait a minute, Mom. Let me take Shanum out." Nining moved out of the living room and into her best friend's room.
"Num ... outside there's Rayhan's mas."
"Mas Rayhan? Where could he have come here?"
"If you don't believe me let me call."
"Mas .. Mas Rayhan."
"Yes, what's wrong?" sahut Rayhan from the living room. He also approached the room.
"Mas Rayhan why are you here again? Is there anything left behind?" ask Shanum.
"Yes, you're missing."
"I was left here because my legs still hurt."
"We're going into town now."
"A-a-pa? To town? Whynot? Rayhan said yesterday as long as my feet still hurt, I'm here first."
"Grandmother asked me to pick you up. He said you have to be hospitalized so your feet heal quickly" Rayhan explained.
"But, Mas, …"
"Already, Num. Just massage. Not everyone is as lucky as you are" Nining said.
"Yes, Son. Maybe if you are admitted to the hospital your feet will heal faster than here who only take medicine from village midwives," said Fatimah bu.
"Where? You want to, right? You dare refuse Grandma's request."
"Ehm .. Yeah, I want to."
"Then we go now."
"Wait first. What time do you leave town?" ask Fatimah.
"Four in the morning, ma'am."
"Don't bother, Mom. I can have breakfast anywhere."
"Wait a minute." The middle-aged woman moved out of the living room and walked towards the kitchen. Not long after he returned with a tray containing a plate of warm rice and a bowl of vegetable gulai jackfruit complete with salted fish and sambal terasi. The aroma of the cuisine also made his appetite appear.
"Please, Son."
"Sorry, Mom. So delicious. Uh .. I mean be a bother."
"Not bothered. I cooked this morning."
"I'm sorry, I ate alone."
"It's okay. We had breakfast."
Rayhan began to pour jackfruit vegetables into a plate containing rice along with rice sauce and salted fish.
"Whatever the name of this food, this is one of the most delicious dishes I've ever eaten" he murmured.
"Ehm .. Ma'am."
"Yes, son."
"I'm so embarrassed."
"Then why?"
"Ehm ... can I bring this jackfruit vegetable scraps to the city?"
"Oh, what do I think I'd say. Can really. I happen to cook a lot."
"Thank you, Mom."
"I'm glad you like my cooking."
"We say goodbye, Miss .. Ning" said Rayhan.
"You guys be careful."
"Come on."
Shanum tried to move his legs but in fact moving them was very painful.
"Shanum's legs still hurt, Mas. Can't make a way yet" Nining said.
"Let's go."
"Don't, Mas. I'm ashamed of Nyai's mom."
Rayhan's not huffing. He lifted Shanum's body and carried it.
"Please excuse me, Assalamu'alaikum."
Shanum and Rayhan left the house.
"Shanum and Rayhan have similar faces. I'm sure they were a match," said the mother.
