The melodious chant of the holy verse of the Qur'an is heard from a house. However, the voice stopped because suddenly there was a voice of someone who was screaming in pain from inside a room.
"Yes Allah. Grandpa why?!"
The 18-year-old girl who had just entered the room was named Shanum. He became an orphan when he was a child. Both of his parents died due to an accident at their workplace, an oil palm plantation in an area on the island of Borneo. Since then, little Shanum has been cared for by his grandfather named Yahya.
Actually Shanum get a substantial death benefit from the company where his parents were. However, children his age may understand what death compensation is. It was also used by Faisal, who is the younger brother of the father and his wife, Dini to open a business. While the grandfather would rather give up than have to argue with the youngest child.
"Grandfather is not strong anymore, Nduk," he softened with a breath that began to go up and down.
"We're going to the village midwife now, yeah, Cake."
"No need, Nduk."
"Grandfather must go now" he said again.
"Grandfather can't talk like that. We're going to the village midwife let Grandpa be treated." Shanum's voice rang out.
"You take good care of yourself. Never leave your five-time prayers."
"If Grandpa left, who's Shanum, Cake?" Shanum grabbed the grandfather's hand then clasped it tightly.
"Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah wa asyhadu anna muhammadarrasulullah."
The grandfather took a deep breath then exhaled it, and it turned out to be his last breath.
"Grandfather! Don't leave Shanum!" shanum Jerrit. Her crying was unstoppable no longer.
A few moments later the door of the room opened.
"Why are you screaming? Your voice is heard all the way to our house."
"Grandpa .. Mr. Lek. Hu ... hu .. hu…"
"Why with dad?" ask the man named Faisal.
"Grandfather is gone. Hu ... hu .. hu…"
"So morning you were still in good health" said Faisal's wife, Dini.
Faisal checked his pulse and heart rate. Turns out, the father was gone forever.
At the funeral of his grandfather, Shanum did not stop lamenting the departure of the man he loved so much. How not? Since the departure of both parents, the grandfather was the one who nurtured and raised him. Thanks to the grandfather also he was able to several times khatam Al-Qur'an and believed to be a TPQ teacher in their hometown.
"When will your nephew continue to weep over my father's departure?" say it right after the funeral is over.
Faisal approached Shanum.
"You want to cry until your tears are dry. People who have died will never be able to live again" he said.
"Did Mr Lek not feel at all lost grandfather?"
"Only a fool weeps over a dead man."
"Astaghfirullahaldzim says. Yahya's grandfather is Pak Lek's father. Why does Lek even care about him?"
"You want to know why? Since your childhood, your grandfather has always distinguished me and your father. What father. In fact, when you sold out his paddy field, he wouldn't give me the money to make the effort. But instead make this house for him," said Faisal.
Suddenly Dini approached Faisal. He whispered something into his ear.
"A good idea. Why don't I think" said Faisal.
"Ehm .. Shanum. We go home now. Ma'am lek is worried that you have a headache if it is too long hot" said Dini, which is of course just a pleasantries.
Shanum, who had been in the tomb for too long, said. They left the cemetery area.
Arriving at home.
Shanum was astonished when he found that the aunt had suddenly barged into his room. Not long after he came out with a bag containing his clothes. He threw it right in front of Shanum.
"From this moment, get out of this house!" sentak Dini's.
"What does Miss Lek mean? This is father's house. Why do I have to go?" his protest.
"This house I want to sell to open a new business."
"Don't, Miss lek. If this house is for sale, where will I live?"
"You think I care? We've been waiting so long for this day to come."
Setali three money with his wife, Faisal who is none other than the younger brother of the late father also forced Shanum to leave the house.
"As long as it's still day, let's go!" his age.
"If I go, who will teach the children to teach in this village, Mr lek?"
"Super stupid! I don't give a shit. Quickly leave this house before we do anything rude to you!"
"Please don't throw me out, Mr. Lek."
Shanum dropped his knees on the floor and grabbed Faisal's legs. Instead of pity, the man pushes Shanum's body until the girl falls.
The crying broke too. Not lost his sorrow because of the departure of the grandfather who faced the divine, now he must get the painful treatment of the uncle who drove him from his own home.
Shanum moved off the floor. With a shaky step he walked towards his room. He took a can of biscuits containing savings he got from the voluntary giving of parents who entrust their children to learn to teach him. The savings money was going to be used to finance the grandfather to go to the holy land. One more thing he brought with him was the Qur'an which he always read every day.
"Splash away! No drama!" sentak Faisal's.
"Remember, Mr. Lek. Everything that is obtained in a dirty way will not hold up for long" said Shanum.
"We don't need your talk!"
"I'm leaving now. May Allah forgive your sins" said Shanum .
"Go quickly!" Dini dragged Shanum's hand and forced him out of the living room.
Once again Shanum looked at the green house before leaving.
Shanum was seen coming to someone's house. He's Nining, his best friend.
"Ning ... I signed TPQ" he said.
"What do you mean, Num? And why are you carrying that big bag? Where are you going?" ask Nining.
"I have to leave this village."
"Go? Why do you suddenly want to leave this village?"
"Ehm .. I-I have a job offer in town."
"Grandfather Yahya has just died, Num. Even the grave was not dry. Can't you delay after her seven-day event?"
"I'm sorry, I have to go today."
"Yes, if that's your decision. May Allah make your affairs easy. For TPQ inshaallah I can hold."
"Thank you, Ning." Shanum then grabbed his best friend's body into his arms.
"I can't cry in front of Nining, I have to be strong" he murmured.
"I say goodbye, Assalamu'alaikum."
"Wa'alaikumsalam."
Nining just stood staring at the back of his friend who was getting away …
