After a ten-minute walk, Shanum and Rayhan arrived at the tomb.
Shanum's cry broke when he saw the condition of the grandfather's tomb which was far from well-kept. The wild grass grew so lush above the navel that it almost covered the tombstone.
"Assalamu'alaikum, Kek," he quipped.
"This grave is so dirty. Surely your uncle and buddha never visited him" said Rayhan as he plucked the weeds.
"Sorry, Cake. I can't visit Grandpa's grave often" Shanum said in a soft voice.
"Here you go, don't cry. You better pray for your grandfather" Rayhan said.
Shanum began chanting do'a-do'a to his grandfather's spirit. Rayhan was astonished because the girl could memorize the long-duration do'a out of her head.
"How can you memorize a do'a all that time?" ask Rayhan.
Shanum commented a thin smile.
"I used to teach at TPQ this village. The late teacher taught me to read that do'a so often that I could memorize it myself."
"Get out!" Suddenly the sky turned cloudy as lightning struck.
"It looks like it's going to rain. Let's go back to your friend's house, right away" Rayhan said. Shanum nodded in understanding.
"I'll say goodbye, Cake. Assalamu'alaikum" Shanum said after sprinkling fresh flowers on the grandfather's navel.
Shanum had just left the grave of his grandfather. His eyes widened when he found the dry branches of the frangipani tree suddenly broke and almost hit Rayhan's head.
"Mas Rayhan! Watch out!" pekik Shanum's.
Regardless of his own safety, Shanum rushed over to Ray and pushed Rayha's body. As a result, the branch fell right on his leg.
"God! Shanum! You're okay, aren't you?" ask Rayhan.
"Ehm .. It's okay, Mom."
"What's okay. Look, your feet are bleeding."
"Ah, this is just a small wound." Shanum was about to stand up but somehow he felt so much pain that even his legs felt hard to move.
"Astaghfirullahaldzim."
"Why?" ask Rayhan.
"My feet hurt a lot."
"So just said it's okay. Now I just said sick. Can you walk?"
Shanum shook his head.
"Let's go up" he said briefly.
"A-a-pa?"
"You're having trouble walking, aren't you? That's why I just carry it."
"But, um …"
"Get out!" Once again the lightning roared.
"Come, hurry! Or do you want to be rained on?"
Shanum didn't budge.
"I count to three. If it's up to the count of three you don't also go up to my back, I'm staying you!"
"Alone in the tomb when it rains? Just imagining it is so scary" Shanum said.
"One .... Two .. two quarters .. two quarters .. two and a half .. two three quarters .. ti …"
Rayhan was about to re-establish his body but Shanum held him back.
"Wait!" yells.
"Let's go up quickly. It's already starting to drizzle."
With trembling hands Shanum began to hold on to Rayhan's burly shoulders. For whatever sake this is the first time in his life to touch a man.
"Sorry, yes" said Rayhan as he folded his arms and touched Shanum's pantatt.
"Weight is also you."
"Ah, I only weigh 50 kilos."
"Just 50 kilos you said? You think I'm a pelvic coolie who's used to hauling rice sacks?" rayhan's grumbling made Shanum laugh.
"Bress!" The rain that fell so fiercely forced them to stop and take shelter in a patrol post.
"Aww!" pekik Shanum's.
"Is it really that sick?" ask Rayhan.
Shanum nodded his head. The man even saw a clear circle begin to wet the girl's cheeks.
"I'm sorry, you're like this for saving me. Surely the story will be different if the tree branch hit my head," said Rayhan.
