“Maysha, I didn't mean it. I said so just so Laura wouldn't jump.”
“If Laura asked you to divorce me? Are you going to make the same promise?”
Arlan's mouth was locked. Don't know what to say. The pieces of guilt slowly spread to the heart. The suicide threat Laura gave urged her to do something beyond her will.
“You're sorry, Mas? That's why do not carelessly make promises if you can not keep.” Maysha pulls the door. “I want to change clothes first.”
Arlan looked back at Maysha. The woman seemed to be limiting herself. But deep down Arlan does not matter if he wants to linger in the room, even if Maysha wants to change clothes though. Are they not a legal couple?
With little force Arlan set foot leaving Maysha's room. Feeling lazy to Laura's room, he finally chose to spend time on the balcony. Just contemplate alone.
“I thought you were here.” The baritone voice that greeted the ears distracted Arlan. The man looked back. His forehead furrowed at the figure of the foreign man who came suddenly.
“Who are you?”
The man Arlan guessed was the same age as her was approaching. Then without a word already hugged and patted his shoulder repeatedly. “I Andre. Your old friend. Maysha called me and told me you were back. That's why I came.”
“Oh, Sorry, I can't remember you.” The hug also broke. Arlan looked at the man fixedly. Trying to remember something, but again everything feels foreign. And every time Arlan forced himself, he would feel a pain in the head.
“It's okay, I understand. Maysha has told me all.”
Arlan simply nodded in silence. Both of them sat on a chair with a table divider. Staring at the view of the garden behind the house with brightly lit decorative lights.
“We've been friends since childhood. We used to go to school and study at the same college. As long as you disappear, I take care of your company.”
Again, Arlan just nodded. He still remembers yesterday when on his way home from out of town, Maysha had told him many things about his job and company. Also about their family, including their mother who is now abroad.
“If we've known each other since childhood, then you know a lot about my past.”
Andre chuckled for a moment. Is trying to eliminate the awkwardness that is clearly illustrated in Arlan's attitude. Andre understands that he may be a stranger to his best friend.
“I know everything about you, from the smallest to the biggest. So, do not hesitate if you want to ask something.”
There were indeed many questions in Arlan's mind at the moment. About how he lived before he lost all his memories. How is Maysha's family, work and relationship.
Andre stuck out his hand and patted Arlan on the shoulder while giggling. “Wah, I can hardly believe that this is really you. Ah, it turns out there is a silver lining as well you lost your memory. You are more polite now!”
“What did I first look like?” Arlan's forehead is thinly wrinkled. In his mind there were many questions about what he used to be like.
“If I told you you wouldn't believe. You are the rarest species on Earth.”
“Means?”
The man again sniggered. “You're a little grumpy and coercive. Very different from the one now. But take it easy, I'll help you remember everything. Slow down, no need to rush.”
“How about Maysha?” The question was asked unconsciously. Maysha was the first person Arlan really wanted to remember more than anything else.
“If your household problems with Maysha you can ask directly to the person.”
“I'm not good,” he answered honestly, especially if you remember some mistakes he made on the first day of meeting. Starting from yelling, accusing him of mixing chili powder into Laura's food, to a promise that so hurt his wife.
“Not good why? She's your wife.”
“I know, just ...” Speech cut off by a long breath. There are so many things that are difficult to express in words.
As a friend who knew Arlan since childhood, Andre seemed able to guess the contents of his friend's head.
“You were so pussy with Maysha that you were willing to be stricken from the family card just for the sake of marrying her." Andre paused his words with a breath. "Therefore I was surprised when Maysha told me that you were married again.”
Arlan. His mind was now filled with the shadows of Maysha.
“Oh yes, how can you marry your new wife?”
I don't know why that question made Arlan feel a throb in the head. Eyes closed. His hands were raised with hair.
“I don't know. Suddenly I was in one room with Laura and not long after that she claimed to be pregnant.”
