OLD MAN CHEN

Four months ago.

Someone knocked on Ranum's door, Olivia opened the door. “You're Chen's parents?” Olivia asked.

“Yes we are Chen's parents, who are you?” Father Chen asked.

“I contacted you.” Olivia answered, smiling.

“So you're Olivia?” Mother Chen asked.

Olivia nodded in reverence. “Please enter.” Olivia invited Chen's parents.

Olivia escorts Chen's parents to meet Chen and Ranum in the backyard. “Chen, your parents arrived.” Olivia said from the back yard door.

Chen walked over, hugging his parents. “Ma, pa, introduce this Ranum my husband and Ranum Tan, our son.” Chen introduces Ranum and his son to his parents. “Ranum, this is my mama and papaku.” Chen introduces his parents to Ranum.

“Ranum.” Ranum shook Chen's mother's hand.

“Adele Xiuhuan.” Mother Chen smiled, shaking Ranum's hand.

“Ranum.” Ranum shook Chen's father's hand.

“Adrian Xiuhuan.” Chen's father shook Ranum's hand. “Since when did you get married? Why didn't you guys invite us?” Chen's father asked Ranum.

“We've been married almost a year.” Chen answered his father's question. “We got married here, my phone went missing while in Singapore, so I can't tell you guys.” Chen continued to explain.

Ranum nodded. “I'm sorry for not contacting you.” Ranum bent.

Chen's father looked at Ranum, probing. “What is your job?” Chen's father asked.

“I work as an employee in a company mr.” Ranum smiled.

“Employees can buy a luxury car?” Chen's father asked.

“That's my boss's car sir, my car is in the workshop because there is little damage.” Ranum explained.

Father Chen nodded, staring around. “Does my son live well here?” Chen's father asked.

“Pa!” Chen exclaimed in annoyance. “What – what the hell is that question, I live very happy! In this place I don't need to meet such a shitty person as papa!” Chen continued to exclaim.

Ranum held onto Chen's shoulder. “I always try to meet Chen's needs during my life here sir, sorry if I still have many shortcomings and have not been included in the criteria of your dream son-in-law.” Ranum spoke to Chen's father.

Olivia squeezed her hand, annoyed at Chen's father's behavior.

“What is my grandson?” Mother Chen asked.

Ranum nodded, giving Ranum Tan to his mother Chen.

Father and Mother Chen sat in the back yard seat. “Call us mama and papa, we are also your parents.” Mother Chen smiled looking at Ranum.

“Good ma.” Ranum smiled. “Olivia, please make some food for my parents.” Ranum spoke to Olivia.

“Good Ranum.” Olivia went into the house.

“Why did Olivia contact me, not you?” Chen's father asked Ranum.

“I'm sorry pa, at that time my work was quite solid.” Ranum explained.

“More important your job than your in-laws?” Chen's father asked cynically.

“Chen.” Ranum held onto Chen's shoulder. “How to travel, what's fun?” Ranum asked Chen's parents.

“Memb-“ Chen's father's sentence came to a halt, Chen's mother shut her husband's mouth.

“Our trip was very pleasant, thanks for the ticket and taxi Ranum.” Chen's mother replied, her left hand was holding Ranum Tan's. “How are you guys? How does marriage feel?” Mother Chen asked.

“Very nice ma, Ranum always makes me happy. I can't explain how much happiness he gives because so much happiness I feel.” Chen explained, smiling widely.

“Good if your marriage goes well, we are also happy to hear it.” Mother Chen smiled. “Thank you Ranum has made our son happy, Chen has never looked this happy before.” Mother Chen explained.

“She is happier when with us.” Father Chen grumbled – grievances.

Ranum nodded, smiling. “Im sorry pa.”

“Your face is a lot of scars, what is the cause of the wound?” Mother Chen asked.

“How can you cook all this?” Father Chen asked.

Olivia smiled broadly. “Because Ranum sent me to the best cooking school in Australia.” Olivia explained proudly.

“Toling you?” Chen's father asked confusedly.

“Please try pa, Olivia is very smart in cooking.” Ranum tried to divert the conversation.

“What did you mean by Olivia?” Chen's father was still wondering.

“Laksa is delicious, like my mother made it. The spice is so pronounced and really reminds me of my childhood.” Mother Chen smiled happily. “The season seeps into the noodles and the maturity of the noodles is very precise. This is right – is the most delicious laksa I have ever tasted.” Mother Chen spoke with a happy face.

“Olivia is indeed very good at ma cooking, she can cook anything and nothing can match the delicacy of Olivia.” cuisine Chen chuckled, scooping his food.

Chen's father tried the spicy sauce crab. As the crab meat entered his mouth, he was silent for a moment. “You should try this crab.” Chen's father gave a spoonful of crab meat to his wife.

“Wow, all your cooking is so good Olivia, can you give me the recipe?” Mother Chen asked.

“I will share it with pleasure madam.” Olivia smile.

“After this meal, we will go to the shopping mall to buy christmas gifts. Do mom and dad want to come?” Ranum asked.

“Do you have enough money to buy christmas gifts?” Father Chen asked.

Ranum smiled. “I got a Christmas bonus pretty much this year pa. So you can buy whatever you want.”

“Anything?” Father Chen asked.

Ranum smiled, nodded.

“What are we doing there? Your boss' car won't fit us all.” enough Father Chen said.

“Papa and I can use my boss's car. While Chen and mama can be with Olivia using her car.” Ranum explained.

“We will follow.” Mother Chen replied, smiling. “Thank you Ranum has invited us.” Mother Chen said.

Ranum nodded, smiling. “You are also my parents ma.”
