The beginning of the night has arrived, the dining room that the last two and a half years was just sat alone by Jean, now Enver rejoined.
Jean's eyes bowed, looking at the focus on her plate. Enver chewed his food while looking at Jean who had not opened his mouth since this afternoon.
“Our wedding will take place on two months tomorrow, meaning about three more weeks”, explained Enver trying to start a conversation. But Jean still remains focused on her food and indifferent to Enver.
“Hmm, is there a friend you want to invite?, or a brother maybe?”, Enver asked hesitantly, because only now does he feel unresponsive by Jean.
“Why should we get married?”, Jean's question made Enver subconsciously put down the spoon he was holding.
“A..what?”, Jean confirm Jean's question.
“Tell me why should we get married?”, Jean stared at Enver waiting for his answer.
The seemingly unexpected Enver would get such a question from Jean, several times touching his own lips subconsciously while looking for the right answer.
“You've kept your promise to save my friend, so as long as my friends are safe, I don't think about leaving you or anything like that. I don't mind also about my blood, while it's at the reasonable limit, so I can stay alive”, Jean explained her opinion.
“Is it possible that you have a lover without my knowledge or something?”, Tanya Enver who is getting serious.
“Not”, replied Jean quickly.
“Don't get me wrong, I won't force you to stay with me. I wouldn't do anything to your friend if you didn't want to be with me. I won't threaten you, you're out of that parlor even before the average lifespan of death”. Clearly Enver was staring at the drink in the glass he was holding.
“Then why from the beginning did you even arbitrarily arrange our marriage unilaterally?”, asked Jean whose emotions began to stir. Maybe if it was two years ago, he would have happily left Enver after hearing Enver's words. But ever since she realized her feelings, Ever's words were a knife blade slicing through her heart, as it showed how worthless she was in Enver's eyes.
“I thought you accepted everything, you didn't even protest the rumors about our engagement that I had deliberately spread, I guess.”, Enver did not continue his words and just combed his hair from front to back using his fingers.
“You didn't give me a chance. Just answer me, why should we get married?, you can take my blood even without having to marry me”, Jean tried to calm her anger. At first Jean asked that out of curiosity, if there was any chance of her getting into Enver's heart. But now, the reason Jean asked was to find a reason to be with Enver.
“I told you, if you are by my side and give me your blood, I will make sure that my blood drinking activities will not make you happy, we must get married before you reach 20”, obviously Enver who looked lost his spirit.
“So how to get married?. Let me guess, is it more precisely we have to be ‘connected’?”, Jean guessed.
“Ya”, Enver replied before then drinking the wine in his glass.
“In that way, you will get a special kind of dopamine that can improve your body functions, while improving the essence of your life instantly. Besides I can freely try to protect you by my side”, Enver continued.
“Then I thought we could do it even without getting married?”, Jean said just any sentence that produced a pain in her heart. The pain after he believes that Enver has no feelings for him.
“I will not do such activities except with my wife”, explained Enver as he poured wine into his glass, for the umpteenth time.
Jean looked at Enver with her eyes still puffy due to her crying this afternoon, her mind working so hard. But no matter how he tried, making the direction of his mind to end he could leave Enver. In the end he is in a deadlock, a shadow if he is no longer with Enver, Enver will look for another woman to replace him. Imagining how Enver grips others while drinking their blood makes Jean feel that it is her greatest pain.
“Alright, let's get married like you” said, Jean's words made Enver stop in the middle of his drink.
“Why?, I thought you objected at first”, Enver seemed to be trying to get Jean to think twice before marrying him.
“After a second thought, marrying you will give me many advantages, especially the matter of possessions?, your wealth makes me unable to resist”, Jean smiled as she stood up from her seat. Jean's speech made Enver snort softly.
“Yahh, I will make sure to guarantee the continuity of my wealth”, Enver smiled with one corner of his lips squeaking higher than the corner of the lip on the other side. Jean who saw the Enver's expression made a sense of contempt from nowhere.
"Your time to consider it, is until the wedding day. If we were married, even if you were to beg while prostrating to me to let you go, you could never. I would rather never let it. You will be by your side, your whole life" Enver said.
“Ah, but I hope you do not drink the blood of anyone other than me, and not ‘hook’ except me. I want to live healthy for a long time”, Jean ended the conversation by leaving Enver still languished at the dinner table. Enver raised his bottle of wine which turned out to be exhausted without him noticing.
The next day Jean sat down laughing with her friends at a diner.
“Rani already has a boyfriend, you know?”, Clara speaks in a gossipy tone.
“wooo, you gave up studying or something?”, Lisa scoffed.
Rani, who was sitting opposite Jean, threw the lump of tissue she had previously used, at Lisa, who was sitting between Jean and Clarisa. Clara sat down in front of Lisa.
“Stop teasing me!, I instead want to stop studying, I just want to study casually for at least 3 semesters”, explained Rani.
“But how's Beny?, he didn't get together?”, asked Jean while drinking his drink.
“She has also rarely met with us, at school she refused to have lunch with us because she was the only male”, explained Clara.
“I'm sure he's busy, brother Bram's family is busy preparing for the wedding of Mr. Enver and lady Jean”. Clarisa was laughing.
“owhh, what's your last name going to be Valera?”, “Mrs Jean Valera!”. Rani and Clara are in a row teasing Jean.
“I'm grateful you two became sister brother who rukun”, Jean snorted.
“Oh yes, the alumni of the orphanage invited to meet next week, you want to join Jean?”, Tanya Clara suddenly.
“Alumni Panti?”, Jean wonder.
“Iya, do you remember Leo and the gang?, they plan to make a pilgrimage to the graves of some other friends first, before then to the reunion site”. Clara.
Jean fell silent, her mind frozen to receive the info. Jean does remember Leo and some of his other friends, although they were not very close because they lived in a certain group in the orphanage, but Jean clearly remembers because they always played together before entering elementary school.
“Si, who died?”, asked Jean.
“You don't know?, Brother Bunga and about 10 others. They died because the dormitory had a fire, about two months ago”, Clara explained.
“Padal news is splashy, covered by national media”, Rani added.
“Hmm, sister Flower what age?”, Jean asked ascertain whether what was on her mind was right or wrong.
“All victims average 20 to 22 years”, Lisa connect.
“Clara, did you know the alumni approved the residents?”, Jean asked.
“emmm, I'm not sure. But I heard the new policy was implemented, because the orphanage is experiencing a shortage of funds”. Clara.
“But strangely, the parlors do not accept donations amid their shortcomings, and only ask donors to provide assistance directly to the alumni through scholarships or work programs”. Obviously Rani.
“how do you know?”, Clarisa asked.
“It was because my mother's arisan group tried to provide financial assistance, and it turned out to be rejected. Though very many people or companies that take the initiative to provide funds” assistance, explained Rani.
Jean moved her legs up and down quickly as if she was uncomfortable.
“Why?, you want to go to WC?”, asked Lisa who felt the vibrations from Jean's legs.
“Oh, gak”, Jean replied.
