Winarsih sat for a while in her room waiting for Novi whose steps had been heard quickly climbing the stairs.
"I took this first," said Novi running open the closet door and pulled out a large bag that had been filled with Winarsih's equipment and the baby.
Winarsih just grimaced to see the puddle of water under her feet. The pain in his stomach was still gone, but when the pain came, he gripped the bedsheet with all his strength. Cold sweat had adorned his forehead.
"Come on, Mr. Noto is ready in front of the house." Novi grabbed Winarsih's hand to stand up.
"Can you still walk?" ask Novi to his boss' wife who always looks calm.
"You're not sick anymore, you can." Winarsih began to move her legs outside the room.
"Pelan-pelan aja Bu," pinta Novi.
"If you are not sick anymore, you must hurry Nov. Because if the pain comes, I certainly can not move," said Winarsih.
Slowly but surely, Winarsih and Novi went down each staircase and then to the terrace of the house where Mr. Noto had prepared in the car.
"I've called the hospital, Doctor Azizah is in practice and stands by there, so we don't have to worry." Novi rubbed the silent arm of Winarsih biting her lip withstanding the pain.
"Sir Dean Nov?" ask Winarsih.
"I just need to call her cell phone is not active Mom. Ryan is also not active. Maybe they are busy. Later if it is active, Mr. Dean will definitely call immediately," explained Novi to comfort his boss's wife.
Novi was also confused as to why Dean's and his secretary's cell phone numbers were off that night. Ryan didn't tell her anything before that day.
Winarsih just silently heard Novi's words. The bag on his lap may have been squeezed dozens of times to relieve the pain.
When they arrived at the door of the ER, Novi immediately went down to inform the nurses who had prepared in a wheelchair not far from where they had stopped.
A few minutes later Winarsih had been driven by a wheelchair to the VK room.
Novi put their luggage on a stone table near which there is a sink. The nurse immediately changed Winarsih's clothes. Unlock everything the woman wears and replace it with a patient uniform for childbirth.
Doctor Azizah appeared at the door with a smile shortly afterwards.
"Bu Winarsih finally-let's check first." Doctor Azizah immediately put on sterile gloves to check the birth canal of Winarsih's baby.
"The water is already dry this but still opening one, so we install induction yes. Let the baby not be late in the dalem," said Doctor Azizah who nodded giving orders to Midwives and Nurses who were standing not far from them.
The look on Novi's face was a little worried to see Winarsih who was already urgently holding her stomach and waist alternately.
"It's Nov, sick," said Winarsih.
Novi who had never heard Winarsih complained to hold the young woman's hand.
"Bu Winarsih can not get off the bed again. This is the infusion we've installed to help open the baby's birth canal. Because the water is already dry" explained a nurse who was tuning the infusion machine.
"Patience Mom, hopefully it won't be long. The first child, so it does need adjustment," comforted Doctor Azizah who deliberately did not ask the whereabouts of her patient's husband during childbirth. He did not want his patients who were battling pain to feel intimidated by the question.
Because indeed not all patients who handled it, always accompanied by a husband. For Doctor Azizah, it was a very important code of conduct.
"According to my estimation, at most 2 hours his birth canal must have opened perfectly. Now I live first. Sus, keep monitoring ya. Call me in the next room." Doctor Azizah passed from the room of VK.
Finished installing the infusion of Winarsih, a woman with a nametag that reads MIDAN, put a CTG device around her stomach.
Soon the sound of the baby's heartbeat echoed in the room. CTG device serves to monitor the movement of the fetus and baby before and during labor.
Waves of pain he felt in the abdomen were more and more frequent, and Winarsih gripped Novi's hand as hard as she could until the assistant grimaced.
"Nov, I'm thirsty. Get me a drink Nov," pinta Winarsih whose breath is breathless.
Novi turned to the nurse for approval, and after the nurse nodded, Novi left her bag at the foot of the bed and went out to get some water for Winarsih.
"Sus, I want to throw up" said Winarsih who was sitting leaning back.
The nurse hurriedly took out a stainless steel basin and placed it on Winarsih's lap.
"It's nothing ma'am, it's an induction reaction. It could be that later contractions at the time of vomiting add to the birth canal," said the nurse rubbed Winarsih's back which was removing the contents of her stomach.
After Winarsih finished vomiting, the nurse swapped the stainless steel basin for a new one and placed it back on the woman's lap.
Not until five minutes later, Winarsih again bent over the basin to vomit.
Winarsih had never felt such intense pain attacking and surrounding her from her stomach to her waist.
His throat was getting drier, but Novi had not yet arrived. His sweat had soaked his back and forehead.
Winarsih stretches her legs and repeatedly tries to change her sitting position to make her stomach more comfortable.
But basically it is a pain that must be felt in order to get the baby out in the womb. Despite having tried various sitting positions, the pain came even more intense accompanied by nausea.
Winarsih vomited again and shortly afterwards, Novi appeared at the door with bottles of mineral water in her arms.
"Sorry Mom, I have to go to the lobby to buy this. There's a dispenser outside, but we don't have the case." Novi grimaced looking at Winarsih who no longer heard his words.
Novi immediately opened the mineral water packaging and Winarsih directly sipped the water from the bottle because he could not wait for the glass again.
After finishing almost a bottle of medium-sized mineral water, Winarsih vomited again.
"Aduuhhh--" said Winarsih. The sound of a baby's heart rate through the CTG machine's speakers still echoed in the room like it was encouraging his mother.
The midwife who heard Winarsih's moans immediately put on sterile gloves and took out a gauze.
"Line first, ma'am, we'll check her birth canal again." The midwife helped Winarsih bend her legs and insert her fingers into her sensitive areas.
"It's opening four, the spirit yes ma'am. In a moment. Doctor Azizah almost never misses." The midwife re-opened her gloves and tossed them into the trash.
Novi tidied the hair of his employer's wife who was now lying on her side gripping the edge of the bed.
"Oh yes Ma'am, Mr Dean!" Novi is like being jumped because he remembers something. Hurriedly he grabbed his bag which was at the foot of the bed and reached for a cell phone.
"Ouch! Mr. Dean was calling Ma'am. But I was out drinking again. I immediately called," said Novi who immediately pressed the call button.
When Winarsih saw the disappointed look on Novi's face, she could guess that her husband must not have answered the call.
Winarsih just silently grimaced.
"Nov, get me the basin. I'm gonna throw up again." Winarsih hurriedly got up from her position.
**********
That night, Dean split the streets of the capital that were still crowded because it was a work day.
In a moment, the bouquet of red tulips that was on his lap right now would reach its owner. And if their child is born before midnight, the boy will have the same date of birth as his mother.
Right now, Dean's chest was filled with a sense of worry and happiness that rolled into one.
Dean limped to park his bike and rushed to the hospital lobby. After receiving information from customer service, Dean immediately headed for the elevator to go to the delivery room.
In the elevator, Dean repeatedly tidied his hair, fixed the tie and rolled up his shirt sleeves neatly.
She is preparing to meet the woman she loves, who is currently struggling to give birth to their child, as neat and handsome as possible.
His heart is beating unbecoming. The thumping feeling was almost the same as it felt when he first paired the seatbelt in his car for Winarsih.
With a limp and a bouquet of flowers in his hand, Dean headed for the delivery room door.
Slowly his hand pressed the handle and pushed the door inside.
"Aduuuuhh, Nov's sick." Winarsih's groans and the sound of the baby's heartbeat instantly filled her ears.
The future mother of the baby was lying on her side clutching her employee's hand with a face almost as white as paper and a forehead filled with sweat.
"Win, I'm sorry." Dean went to his wife's left side.
Winarsih who was lying on her side facing the door, was aghast at her arrival. Dean gives a bouquet of tulips to Novi's hand which has shifted to give her space on the woman's left side.
"Where is it?" tanya Winarsih cried. The woman immediately sobbed at the presence of her husband who felt long ago.
"Sorry, I'm here now. You can give birth to our child. His father came. Don't cry, I'll cry later. Our son was born crying too. Come on, baby." Dean grabbed Winarsih's hand which immediately grasped it tightly.
Winarsih is still sobbing. Dean kissed Winarsih's head who was tightly hugging her hand with all his might.
"Sick-" said Winarsih.
"Yes, it must be sick. Sorry for what I did Win, you're sick." Dean looked nervous and felt wrong every wife said sick. Many times his hands moved to caress his wife's head and rub her back.
"Bu Winarsih, don't cry. Sick later. Let's check the birth canal again." The midwife again picks up new sterile gloves to re-check the birth canal.
As Midwife opened her legs and was seen putting her fingers to the sensitive part of Winarsih that she always adored, Dean grimaced.
"Win, I'm sorry for what I did." Dean buried his face on the side of Winarsih's head. He could not bear to see his wife had to be stabbed like that.
"Already eight. Sus, readyin tools. Call Doctor Azizah, soon to be born," the midwife asked the nurse who was washing her hands in the sink.
"Bu Winarsih, in a moment. Hold on a little more, we ready the tools. The baby hair I had held. I'll see the baby soon." The midwife spoke while pushing a baby warmer and putting it not far from the foot of the bed.
Doctor Azizah went into the VK room and immediately put on a sterile robe that the nurse had provided.
Winarsih again squeezed Dean's hand as hard as he could. And again Dean looked down to whisper an apology in his wife's ear.
In a short time, the Nurse and Midwife had removed some of the bed that Winarsih had worn until the bed was turned into a Verloss Bed.
Dean tidied Winarsih's hair many times to reduce the nervousness in him. When Winarsih's leg was opened to begin the process of delivery, Dean inched back to the head of his wife. He felt unable to if he had to witness it directly down there.
The sense of inadequacy was more like the sense of not being able to see his wife who seemed to have to be torn apart in order to bring out their child.
"Nov," called Dean to his staff standing in the corner of the room. Dean thrust his cell phone at Novi.
Understanding the intention of his boss, Novi began to record video from an angle that felt safe.
"Bu Winarsih-heard me right? it's a perfect opening. I'm sure his mother is pinter. My horror is yes, one breath only, if I say push, push yes Mom," asked Doctor Azizah.
Winarsih had moved her hand on the handle of the bed according to the midwife's instructions to her. Dean, whose heart was pounding, could only cupper his wife's cheek and put her face on the other side of Winarsih's face.
"Okay ma'am, take a deep breath first. Yes, it's good.the baby's head is already visible. Okay yes, push now Mom," Doctor Azizah has sat down to wait for the baby's head to go outside.
Winarsih with a sweat on her forehead was as strong as pushing the baby boy outside. Dean closed his eyes unable to hear his wife's moans.
"Sorry Win-" he whispered again.
A moment later the cry of the baby echoed in the room. Winarsih gasped for breath and returned to lay herself down. Dean who had been looking down since then now sobbed to kiss his wife's head. He could not stem his happiness and thanks to Winarsih.
"Bu Winar Darling, I have given birth to my son in this world safely." Dean wiped the tears that kept coming down his cheeks.
"Born at 22:58. Weighing 4150 grams. The baby was born healthy and complete. This big baby. His mother was great" said Dr Azizah, taking the red baby boy to a heating device.
"This is sir" Novi said, handing over a bouquet of tulips that he had held since.
Dean took the bouquet from Novi's hand and placed it next to his wife's body.
"Happy birthday, Win, thank you for being my daughter's wife and mother." Dean, still teary back, kissed his wife's cheek.
Winarsih smiled looking at the first bouquet of flowers that a man gave her. The bouquet of flowers is so beautiful. He never even held the kind of flower strung together in that beautiful braid.
Doctor Azizah was again in the body of Winarsih to complete the labor process. Not long after, the Midwife came to them with a stranglehold of happiness that seemed to be wriggling inside her cover blanket.
Dean took the bundle out of the midwife's hand and looked at her for a moment. His sight was sad and he had to see a small creature that looked like its twin.
Winarsih spread her hand towards Dean. He could not wait to welcome another man who had just entered his life a moment ago.
With a face full of tearless smiles, Winarsih looked at the most handsome baby boy she had ever seen. Winarsih stroked the reddish cheeks and lips that kept on tasting as if looking for something.
Dean was still standing staring in amazement at the little creature in his wife's arms.
"Sir," call Winarsih.
"Yes dear," said Dean.
"Thank you,"
"For what?"
"Udah keep the promise," said Winarsih with a view that has not switched from the baby.
"The promise of the same father and his son is always definitely Ma'am" said Dean again kissed his wife's head.
"Can you breastfeed Mom, the ASI has come out?" ask Doctor Azizah.
"Udah Doc," replied Dean quickly. Winarsih only grimaced at the reply of her sprightly husband.
