It had been almost three minutes Layla stood in front of Mr. Denis who was sitting in his work chair. The 47-year-old looked angry. Occasionally he nodded because he was worried about the situation. Layla can only be silent, even though she knows about what Denis will discuss.
“That document is still not back, La?” ask Mr. Denis who finally opened his voice.
“Sorry, Sir, Mr. Marc doesn't want to return it to Mr. Dinan, I can't do anything,” I'm Layla.
“You shouldn't have created this kind of problem, La. I do not want to lose staff like you who always finish the job quickly and precisely.” Mr. Denis took a deep breath, looking at Layla who looked down wrongly in front of him, “Pak Dinan had held a sudden meeting, he wanted in less than a week the land had to be leveled. He has also directed the transfer of orphanage children to the eastern region whose land will soon be acquired by the company.”
Layla gulped when she heard the impromptu meeting. Somehow he believed the meeting was held because he failed to return the document to Dinan's desk yesterday.
“Everything is done quickly, I do not understand why Mr. Dinan like this, whereas he is usually full of calculations, but now it is like a hurry in making a decision.”
“Sorry, Sir. Did Mr Dinan mention my name at the meeting?” layla's question cuts through Mr. Denis' explanation.
The man changed the position of his hand. He leaned against the back of the chair with his eyes fixed on Layla. “You are lucky that he did not commit any wrongdoing to your negligence. But if this has a bad impact on the company's strategic project, you are ready to leave here.”
Layla gaped at hearing that, that was a nightmare she absolutely did not want to happen.
“Sorry, Sir. Yesterday Mr. Marc requested that the project on the land be postponed for some time. Land ownership is a little problematic and can have a long impact on our company.”
“And it's all been anticipated by Mr. Dinan, but what are you doing? you're making things even more complicated. Mr. Marc is the chairman of the company's commissioners, if this matter is brought to the commissioner's meeting, all those involved in the land acquisition could be labeled as bad by them. That means all the board of directors, including me and other division leaders, are affected. How do you think our performance appraisal is in the eyes of the commissioner if it turns out we take such land? If this matter were discussed later during the shareholders meeting, how ugly Mr. Dinan's name would be, he would be judged as a foolish director taking such troubled land.”
This time Layla gulped. Why does the problem grow up like that? Moreover, the action can have a very bad impact on Dinan as Mr. Denis just said.
“Pak Dinan wants to develop new business within this company. In the process if something goes wrong is common, including if the decision to acquire the parlour land is problematic. La, it's not as small as you think, but it's also not as complicated as you think. The most important thing is the way we react, the attitude that Mr. Dinan has chosen from the beginning before you screw things up,”, said Mr. Denis.
The girl got weaker and weaker.
“Now back to work, we can only hope that Mr. Dinan can overcome this problem even if the document does not exist.”
Layla asks permission to go out, leaving Mr. Denis back in focus with all his work at the table. On the other side of the office, Dinan and several boards of directors are working out a plan to deal with the problem. They were a bit of a hassle because the documents Layla gave to Mr. Marc were very important to them. The document contains all letters about the land and the concept of development there. What makes them more troublesome is actually that the problem has reached the hands of the commissioner.
Layla's back at her desk. He could only stay still and focus on the job. Although Emma next to him many times asked what problem Layla called Mr. Denis. During the day break, Layla prefers to be alone. Everything that was happening now was completely weighing on the girl. If he had known from the beginning of the thorny matter of his orphanage land, he would not have given the documents to Mr. Marc.
As Layla gets into the elevator for her afternoon break, she meets Leo who just got off the fifth floor.
“You heard the news, La?” leo asked open a conversation with Layla.
“What news, Mas?” ask Layla flatly.
Layla looked at Leo. His heart was pounding fast, as he felt that what Leo meant was him.
“Means, Mas?” ask Layla with a hunting breath.
“So there was an impromptu meeting to discuss that. Dear Mr. Dinan told not to corner the employee.” Leo looked at Layla closely, “do you feel that the employee was like he wanted to complain about Mr Dinan's mistake to the commissioner for buying problematic land? There may be parties in this company who do not like Mr. Dinan to be a director.”
Layla gulped, she could only nod to agree with Leo's words. But to be honest, he did not want to complain about Dinan's mistake to the company's commissioner as Leo had just alleged.
“Maybe the employee has been fired, La, so Mr. Dinan does not want to question what the employee is doing again,” Leo said shortly before the elevator door on the first floor opened.
It all went so badly for Layla that day. He was really not excited to work. The burden of guilt now weighed on his heart and mind. He was carried away until he returned to the apartment. As he cleaned the apartment and prepared dinner, everything kept coming to his mind. Especially when he saw the hour that had passed from six and Dinan was still not home, making him restless that the man was now certainly made fools with the problems that occurred.
When the clock on Layla's phone almost showed at seven in the evening and all the food was on the table. Dinan is not here yet. Layla rubbed her face fretfully. He then stood up and walked towards the central room. At the same time the front door of the apartment was open. Dinan walked quickly inside and quickly climbed towards the second floor. The man ignored Layla who was looking at him worryingly in the living room.
Layla chose to return to the dining table and wait for Dinan there. The girl was again faced with a feeling of uneasiness. Many times he rubbed his face, many times he also saw the clock on the phone. Until finally Dinan came too. The man was wearing knee-length denim pants with a plain white T-shirt.
“What are you cooking?” dinan asked as she pulled up the chair where she used to sit.
“I only cook what's in the refrigerator, Sir,” Layla replied.
Even in that second he hoped that Dinan would scold him all out so that he would not feel guilty anymore. Unfortunately, the man acted as if there was no problem. It was as if there was not the slightest burden on his shoulders.
“Sorry, Sir. Why did you come home last night?” ask Layla carefully.
“Many work in the office,” replied Dinan casually.
“What was it because of my mistake yesterday?”
“You already know, right?” Dinan asked back.
“I was wrong, sir, I am ready to be fired for my mistake, it was a fatal mistake that harmed all company officials,” Layla said resignedly.
“You still have to be in the office, so that I can easily find you to kill you later if all my plans fail,” Dinan said without any burden at all.
Unlike Layla who can only be subdued weakly.
