K&K (Taste Features)
38. Dumb Sunscreen

Haikal had been waiting for Kirana to stop playing the piano. Kirana walked closer to Haikal who was sitting at one of the visitor's tables.

How are you?” haikal asked when he met Kirana at the restaurant.

“Good. You?” Kirana smiled happily at her heart lover who returned from Bali for a long time.

“Ya... as you see now. Have you eaten?” Haikal held Kirana's hand and kissed her.

Kirana shakes.

“Your face is getting thin and pale. Is it because of kangen?” Haikal tease. Kirana laughed a little.

“Will you have dinner with me, miss?” Haikal slightly bent his body. Kirana blushed.

He clasped Haikal's fingers out of the restaurant.

Since the incident on the Kuta beach with Sarah, Haikal kept his cousin at a distance because he began to be aware of Kirana's worries and jealousy some time ago is very reasonable.

Since then, he has not wanted his relationship with Kirana to be disturbed by anyone. Now, instead he was increasingly unable to take his eyes off the deaf woman dimpled next to him.

They had dinner at a simple but special Indonesian restaurant, because Haikal had rented the restaurant just for the two of them. The candles in bamboo and the sound of fountains and the accompaniment of classical songs add to the traditional atmosphere to be romantic.

“Kirana... will you tell me about your past?” haikal asked in the middle of dinner. Haikal is not the type of person who likes to disturb the past or the privacy of others, but Sarah's speech at that time was very disturbing his mind.

I was curious about Kirana's entire life story. Because for him it was very special. It was ridiculous if he spent the day without knowing much about the girl who always made his heart flutter.

Kirana put down her fork spoon. His hands clasped each other as a result of trembling. Why should Haikal bring this up again?

“What's up?” Haikal's worried. Kirana shakes.

Something unpleasant blocked his throat. With trembling hands he grabbed his drink. Haikal frowned. Kirana put back the drink glass and Haikal held her hand.

“Sorry, if I make you uncomfortable. I won't force you on this anymore, until you're ready to tell me yourself.”

Kirana sighed. He did not want to open the painful sheet, he seemed to want to eliminate the figure of Kirana who was once and quite a silent girl Kirana, poor, poor, a French restaurant pianist and the girl who loves Haikal.

But, it is undeniable that he wants to share with the man he loves now.

Haikal may ignore his past, but Kirana is too embarrassed and painful to remember and repeat the story.

No. gabe.

He must tell the story too, what is the point of a lover if he cannot share, if he has to bear his past alone, alone, if every night he had to have nightmares because the secrets that were buried for years so affected his life.

He will tell you everything, his childhood, his family, his talent and the accident that ultimately left him stranded on an alien continent.

“It's okay,” Kirana talks through her fingers. Haikal.

"There's a lot I want to tell you. Will you hear it?” kirana. Haikal nodded in spirit.

Kirana smiled happily at Haikal who was interested in his life.

Well, it's true, he can't keep running from the past.

After all, the past is part of his life. Kirana was confused where to start. He couldn't possibly speak through sign language because it was so long and he was worried that Haikal didn't fully understand. Kirana picked up her little notepad and started writing something.

“My name is Kirana Badar. Jakarta, July 12, 1994. My father was a former '70s musician and my mother was a career woman. I have Citra's sister." Kirana handed over the small paper she had just written.

Haikal read and smiled. Kirana continued writing again.

Kring.kring.. suddenly Haikal mobile phone rings.

“Sorry, a minute yes,” Haikal said to Kirana. Kirana stopped writing. “Iya ma? Whahuh? Niko's in the hospital?yes.iya.iya.i am there now.” Haikal closed the phone.

“What's up?”

“Niko exposed typus. He's in the hospital now. Sorry Kirana, I have to go there. Mama and sister Neny need me now. I'll take you home first.”

“I'm coming.”

“Good.”

The hospital was ten kilometers away from where they had dinner. There Neny was crying in Anna's arms. There was also Sarah and Adit. Haikal and Kirana gasped.

“How?” ask Haikal worried.

“Luckily there are Adit and Sarah who quickly brought to the hospital,” replied Anna.

“Thank you yes,” Haikal on Adit.

Adit smiled nodding. Actually, the incident was not intentional, when he was about to return Sarah's scarf left in his car to Anna's house and Niko suddenly fainted. Sarah also just arrived at the hospital. It's like the farewell at the airport didn't happen.

When Haikal asked the mother for an explanation about the chronology of Niko's illness, the doctor came out of the IGD room.

“How, Doc?” ask Neny.

“Niko... It's dear mama,”

“Pa.pa,” Og Niko.

“What?”

“Pa.pa. Niko kangen papa's. When is papa coming home? Let's make a party,” said Niko. Everyone stared at each other.

“Iya.. papa was already mama called, and tomorrow soon home. Hence Niko must heal quickly in order to play with papa.”

“Oh yes?” niko's tone turned carefree. “Then we have to have a party to welcome papa, Ma. Niko wants to practice the piano again so she can show papa. Kirana want to teach Niko a new song for the party?”

All eyes were on Kirana. Kirana nodded, but she agreed.

“Makanya Niko should heal first, can only exercise.”

“Tomorrow must also have healed well, Om.” said Niko excitedly as if forgetting the pain. Everyone laughed in relief.

One week later, Niko was discharged from the hospital and returned to health. Even though he looked increasingly thin and weak. Papa Niko has returned to Jakarta a few days ago. And Niko immediately wants to have a party. For three days Kirana returned to be Niko's piano tutor.

“You sure are tired?” tanya Haikal helps Kirana arrange the pudding on the plate for a dessert dinner at her house. Kirana smiled shook her head, she was happy to be more familiar with Anna's mother's family. Haikal gave me a key.

“What is this?” Kirana.

“Key,” Reply Haikal lightly.

“I know this key. But what key and for what?” Kirana.

“That's my apartment key. From now on you can wear it. I can't see you living in a restaurant warehouse like that,” Haikal replied. Kirana shook her head and returned the keys to the apartment to Haikal's hands.

“I'm fine and comfortable living there. You don't have to worry. Anyway what would people say if I occupied your apartment?”

“But I'm not okay, sweetheart,” Haikal holds both of Kirana's shoulders. “No Kirana, listen first. I can't let you live and live in a place more suitable for maids. You are not safe and comfortable there. What's wrong if the person I keep can sleep in a better place? The apartment was empty because I lived in my mother's house. And again, don't mind what people say. They don't know anything about us. Don't refuse, please. Otherwise I will kiss you now,” Haikal smiled mischievously making Kirana pat her shoulder.

Kirana looked at the man she loved. He did not want to trouble others, even though it was Haikal himself.

“How?” Haikal.

Kirana took a deep breath. He finally agreed. Haikal smiled with relief. She hugged Kirana warmly.

“Thank you yes. I'm calmer now,” Haikal whispered.

Behind the door, Sarah eavesdropped with a cocky heart. His hands clenched in annoyance.

“If I can't have you Haikal, not even that mute girl will. I will not let only me be hurt,” Sarah said in her heart.

***

The next morning, Haikal had prepared to help Kirana pack the things and move her to the apartment. The manager took off sadly, because it meant that he did not see Kirana all the time. Kirana has changed professions as a regular piano player in addition to Niko's private tutor. And that made the manager lose his assistant.

“Mother don't be sad, I still work here every night.” Kirana.

“Iya anyway, but so no one accompanied me anywhere. Fate you lucky, there is a handsome, rich and kind man who is looking after you now. Don't tell me you're a kara again. Hopefully your relationship can continue to the marriage,” advice bu manager. Kirana blushed in embarrassment at the word wedding. He never even dreamed of it.

“Everything is done,” said Haikal approaching them both.

“So she's fine,” order bu manager to Haikal, as if a mother's greeting to her daughter's lover. Haikal clasped Kirana's hand tightly.

“There is nothing else I can do but take care of it,” Haikal said.

The manager is happy, because he knows exactly how Kirana is and how he can make Haikal move on from the past by the woman he has loved before.

***

“How?” sarah asked, staking out from her car. He sees Haikal and Kirana coming into the apartment carrying several bags.

“This are the files. It is a bit difficult because his identity is less clear and must search through old documents of his past,” replied a man in a hat next to him.

“Good. Please go,” Sarah's orders. The man in the hat nodded and immediately got out of Sarah's car.

“Well, we'll see what you look like Kirana?” Sarah spoke for herself. He opens a brown envelope and there are several photos that also document Kirana's identity.

Sarah looked at the photos she received after reading all of Kirana's documents with trembling hands. He widened his eyes in disbelief. Kirana takes pictures with the woman she also hates, Kezia.

How could two women who both hated each other, they knew each other and took Haikal together? Sarah began to think, could it be that Haikal knew about this? What exactly does Haikal love is Kezia's past in Kirana, as they are so close as both teacher and student and friend?

But this is too weird. Aunty's family has no comment on this. Don't they all know? Was it Kirana who had deliberately hidden all those secrets? Wait a minute, didn't Kirana join the Indonesian orchestra group to Sydney? The plane was in an accident and no survivors were confirmed.

Why did he survive? Even if he survived, it should make headlines because he was the only survivor. Then, before he worked at the aunt's restaurant, four years passed where was he? Questions came to Sarah's mind. This intelligent model begins to guess and intertwine everything between Kirana, Kezia and Haikal.
