Tan Jinqi was confident that her sister would completely forget the fact that she had read the entire script.
The only reason he gave her the script was so that she would not get bored.
Tan Mo picked up the script and said, “OK. Why don't you continue? I'm here to see you working so mom and dad can stop worrying about you, not give you trouble.”
“Alright,” Tan Jinqi smiled.
As the eldest sister, the fact that her 15-year-old sister was worried about her made her touched but also sad at the same time because she had failed as her brother. That was why he promised in his head that he would be better at what he was doing so he wouldn't have to worry about him anymore.
Since Tan Mo was unemployed, he decided to read the script. However, just a few pages into it, he could not read any longer because the plot was too strange.
Tan Mo then sneaked out of the room and hid in a corner where he could see his eldest brother working.
A few minutes after that, from what he saw, Director Liu was very focused on producing a good drama.
Even her makeup and costume came out on top.
Some may say that this is not historically accurate, but Tan Mo can say that they are doing their best to preserve historical features while ensuring the costumes and makeup will appeal to modern audiences.
After watching from the side for a while, Tan Mo grew bored again and returned to the dressing room prepared for him.
Tan Jinqi returned at noon with lunch for Tan Mo.
Since the brother was worried that Tan Mo might not like the lunch box the crew had prepared, he decided to order a food delivery for him.
“Did you read the script? How's that?” Ask Tan Jinqi.
She wanted to hear her sister's opinion because she was now part of Professor Tang's history research team, meaning that she would have an excellent understanding of the history of their own country.
Tan Mo shrugged as he replied, “I don't know exactly. At first glance, it seems to be talking about taking over the throne, but it is different as the plot continues. As the plot takes place during the Northern and Southern Dynasties, the first impression it gives is the talent produced by the dynasty and the Seven Sages of the famous Bamboo Groove. But the deeper the plot, the less about taking over the throne but the more about elegant talent and romance. Overall, it has nothing to do with history.”
After a short pause, Tan Mo suddenly asked, “You did say that this is a historical drama, right? Are you sure?”
“Ya,” Tan Jinqi nodded. “Director Liu even hired a specialist to discuss the script with the scriptwriter. Now that you mention it, I think the specialist is a history PhD student from Beijing University.”
“What?” Tan Mo was startled for a moment before regaining his composure as he only knew a few history majors from Professor Tang's research team.
“Well, I don't think it's a good idea to advertise it as a historical drama with an accurate historical context.” Tan Mo shook his head.
Tan Jinqi trusted her sister without a doubt as she was one of the students that Professor Tang highly praised.
However, there was nothing he could do to change the script due to the approval from Director Liu. Not only that, the set was already built, and the drama was already heavily invested.
It's too late to change anything.
The only thing Tan Jinqi could do was remind Director Liu of his problem.
Although it was not a problem for him to worry, but seeing that he was introduced to Director Liu by Director Hou, he could tell that the two Directors were close friends.
It was one thing if Director Liu would listen to him or not, but at the very least, he had to tell the Director the problems they might face.
Tan Jinqi even regretted not showing Tan Mo the script early.
Tan Jinqi let out a long sigh. “Yes. Even if I tell him now, it's too late to change anything. It will take weeks to change the script, and judge from what you just said, and we may have to rewrite everything. Too many losses if we make the entire crew wait that long, and the actors may not have time to reschedule.”
The brother then mused before continuing with a frown, “But, if I don't tell him and he goes on to promote the film as a historical drama, , I'm afraid it will affect his credibility as a film director.”
“Do you want my opinion? Just do what you think is right,” said Tan Mo. “Sometimes, it is important to follow where your heart takes you.”
Tan Jinqi smiled but was still unable to make up her mind.
He was not a hesitant person, but he did not want to drag Tan Mo into it.
The only thing he was really worried about was how it would affect Tan Mo.
If he talked about it with Director Liu, the director would ask why he didn't talk about the matter when he got the script a few months earlier and wait until they would start filming.
He needed an explanation that could convince Director Liu without dragging Tan Mo into it.
And Tan Mo knew exactly what his brother was thinking and convinced him that he had to do what he thought was right and there was no need to worry about him.
Despite not voicing each other's opinions, siblings can soon figure out what each other is thinking.
That was why Tan Jinqi only smiled at him because he would never do anything that would risk his sister being a part of him.
Unless he was certain that Tan Mo would not be dragged into it, he would never bring it up.
The eldest brother would always choose to side with his sister rather than Director Liu. He doesn't even have to think about it.
Suddenly, the door opened wide, and the brothers turned their heads with shocked expressions. Outside the door stood a woman in her late twenties with a pair of gold-plated round glasses.
He walked into the room and scolded Tan Jinqi, “Assistant Director Tan, I can understand your sister is young and immature, but how can an adult like you be so immature as well? Are you going to let your sister throw this kind of shit?”
Tan Jinqi stood up furiously. He knew that working in the entertainment business would mean a number of insults. Therefore, he was ready for it.
He could withstand anything, except when people dragged Tan Mo into it.
“Looks like you're better,” taunts Tan Jinqi. “Tell me, how long have you been eavesdropping on us?”
Coincidentally, Yuan Qishan walked through the dressing room while the siblings were discussing the script.
It was not that the soundproofing of the room was bad, but Yuan Qishan was extremely sensitive whenever someone talked about his script.
Thinking that the people in the room might be talking about it, he quickly stuck his ear to the door and listened to what they were talking about.
The first thing he heard was Tan Mo's comment about how bad the plot was.
Although Tan Mo did not specifically say that the scriptwriter was bad, but the implications of saying that the script was not meant for a historical drama meant just that.
It was also an insult that the scriptwriter did not know the history of his own country, nor was he highly educated.
From the conversation Yuan Qishan had heard, he believed that Tan Jinqi would talk about it with Director Liu.
