Tan Mo brought the class schedule and books back to his dorm.
Professor Tang was willing to put her in second grade without even knowing her well. That alone shows how much trust the professor has in him.
On the first day of school, Tan Mo wasted no time and brought his translation work to Professor Gu.
“Very fast!” Professor Gu was surprised. Tan Mo's efficiency far surpassed what one would normally expect from a student.
Professor Gu memorized all the contents of the document, and he knew which part was the most difficult.
He checked his work, including some of the more difficult words and places that were harder to translate.
Everything is very accurate.
Tan Mo has done a very detailed job.
He first translated the original text into modern, simplified words.
Then, under each sentence, he used a smaller font and translated each sentence into modern language to make it easier to understand.
Ancient Chinese often used very short sentences. However, this also means that each word has more meaning.
This is clearly seen through how the sentence gets longer after being translated.
After Tan Mo's sentence-by-sentence translation, the thin stack of paper quickly grew bigger and turned into a thick stack.
However, this also made his comprehension much easier.
Looking at his own organization, one could tell that Tan Mo had really thought about it.
Professor Gu read it, nodded, “Not bad at all. I didn't expect you to finish so soon.”
“This ancient writing..” Professor Gu smiled, “Don't say you know all the words. You are not looking for any reference?”
Just searching for words will take a lot of time.
“My thoughts are decent, so I remember many things I have learned in the past,” replied Tan Mo humbly.
Professor Gu: “...”
He calls this pretty good.
Is this little girl trying to be humble or is she being insinuated?
“Do you have other classes after this?” Professor Gu checks the time.
“No.” Tan Mo shook his head.
He comes looking for Professor Gu knowing that he will be free for the rest of the day.
“Come go. I'd like to take you around the lab.” Professor Gu stood up, still holding the document that Tan Mo had translated.
“Professor Gu, I can take him.” Tan Mo extended his hand.
The thick stack of paper was rather heavy.
Professor Gu smiled and handed the papers over to Tan Mo without hesitation.
“The project that my team is working on is the organization of ancient documents of the Hua Empire. Once set up, we will translate everything and publish it.” Professor Gu explained what they were working on on the way to the lab.
“There are so many notes, not limited to those written on paper. Before paper craft techniques were popularized, porcelain, metal, turtle shells, animal bones, cloth, and bamboo sheets were all used as writing media."
“In addition, on several archaeological expeditions, we found writing on the walls and on the rocks. Many of these writings were eroded and some became obscure. We try our best to read what's left and gather the historical truth."
“All these records are in our collection.” Professor Gu is done.
Even though Professor Gu had explained all of this to her in a conversational tone, he could feel just how big the project was.
Once completed, it will be a major contribution to the study of human civilization.
“We cooperate with history department in this project. They are responsible for sorting through the files. We are here to organize it into a book and translate it.” Professor Guo continued, “Part of the “Liye Qinjian” I asked you to work on is actually part of our work as well."
Tan Mo's efficiency and accuracy alone will make him a valuable addition to the team. Professor Gu must get him to join the team.
Tan Mo followed Professor Gu to the lab. It looked different from what he expected.
He expects everyone to work quietly in small cells.
However, it is somewhat alive here.
Stacks of books are stacked on bookshelves, each marked with a different color.
Tan Mo did not take a closer look, so he did not know what each tag meant.
In the center of the lab, there were four whiteboards 60 to 70 inches wide, raised like a TV screen. Together, they form a cube.
Each whiteboard is coated with A4 paper.
All kinds of ancient writing were printed on paper.
“Finded him!” A girl shouted in excitement and took the paper off the blackboard, noted something on the paper, and put it in the laptop.
“Professor Gu, Tan Mo!” Wang Yuemu watched them first and ran over to greet them.
Others did not immediately leave their jobs.
They choose to finish what they do first.
Then they stopped one by one and looked up.
“Tan Mo?” Everyone stared at the little girl standing beside Professor Gu.
She was dressed casually, without any flamboyant makeup.
A pair of regular jeans with two holes in the knee…
Regardless of gender, everyone's jeans have a few holes.
He was wearing a short-sleeved white shirt with a floral motif. The decorative straps encircle the handcuffs as well as the collar.
The orange flowers from the prints made her skin look very bright. Instead, her beautiful skin made the flowers look brighter.
Even though it was only a small detail, it still caught the attention of the audience.
“Let me introduce Tan Mo to everyone.” Professor Guo smiled.
“Tan Mo will join our team from now on. He will do the organizing and translation of ancient records with us.”
Professor Gu waited for someone to refuse. Once the objection arises, he will show everyone Tan Mo's job to prove his worth to everyone on the team.
Unexpectedly, everyone just stared at Tan Mo curiously as if he was a panda. No one objected.
Finally, a girl raised her hand.
Tan Mo looked at him. He was the one who had just picked up a piece of paper from the blackboard the moment they entered.
“Professor,” the girl spoke, “Kakak Wang said that you gave a portion of “Liye Qinjian” to Tan Mo to translate. Once he's done, you'll take him to meet us. Since he is here today, does that mean he has already finished it?”
Professor Gu smiled at Wang Yuemu.
“I wonder why all of you, kids, are being so nice today. There was no one who was arrogant to jump in and complain. It seemed Wang Yuemu had explained the situation earlier.” If not, there must be some objection.
“Because Tan Mo will be joining our team, we will all be teammates. I thought it would be better for us to hang out from the start. If there is a conflict that comes up at the beginning, even if we end up talking about it and resolving it, we may still hold grudges. Nothing good can come from that,” Wang Yuemu explained his thoughts.
Professor Gu nodded happily.
Wang Yuemu was highly respected by this team. His words carry a burden.
Professor Gu appreciated Wang Yuemu's work ethic. He put everything aside for his academic studies and focused on the job. He even attempted to resolve every potential obstacle.
With Wang Yuemu in the team, their entire team would work better together.
