9 THRONES
CHAPTER 11: GIVING UP

"Until we meet again at school next week, Vann" said Toregas who waved his hand at Vann, then left the place full of disappointment.

Vann and Toregas had already returned to their hometown from the test site using the teleportation circle, they had already failed so there was no point in staying there any longer.

Looking at Toregas who left disappointed, Vann did not know what to say because when in class, Vann heard that Toregas had dreamed of becoming a strong cultivator since he was 5 years old.

But his parents always forbade Toregas to become a cultivator because it was too risky, cultivators often fought on the battlefield against monsters that made them easy to die. Therefore, Toregas' parents forbade his son from becoming a cultivator.

But Toregas did not give up, he tried to persuade his parents to give him permission for years until he was allowed to. Although he managed to get permission, his parents gave Toregas the condition that he must have talent above 50 before he could become a cultivator.

Now, let alone having a tier 50 talent, Toregas talent was already ineligible which made his dream shattered.

A dream that has been around for decades, shattered by a cruel reality with less than a day, Vann knew how disappointed Toregas was because Vann, who had only dreamed of becoming a cultivator for about a day, was very disappointed when he found out he had failed.

Returning home after walking for 30 minutes, Vann found his busy father having lunch.

Without seeing Vann, his father immediately said "How? You failed, didn't you? Be it your father or mother is not a cultivator at all and has no talent, why do you think you can become a cultivator? Vann, surrender! Starting next week, you can go back to school and study like before. Until you graduate school, I must have prepared hundreds of billions of dollars so that you can live without any hardship! As long as I live, I will definitely prepare a lot of money for you".

If it was someone else, they would be happy because they only have to spend money all their lives without working.

But Vann's face did not look happy in the slightest, there was a trace of firmness in his eyes "Dad, I might fail this time. Despite that, I'm sure I can still become a cultivator! After all, hard work is no less important than talent".

The friendly smile on Vann's father's face turned gloomy, he put his food utensils back into the bowl before standing full of anger "Did you still not understand as well? With that talent of yours, you will only die as a cultivator! Hard work is no less important than talent, but without enough talent, hard work will not show the results you expect! Vann, surrender! If you keep trying to become a cultivator, you will only die!".

"Dad", said Vann gently, he did not dare to shout to the father who had been taking care of him all this time "I have my own goals! Although I have only been dreaming for a few days of becoming a cultivator, but my determination will not change. One day, I may die from my decision, but I don't mind. At least, I'm happy to try to achieve what I dreamed. Besides, I won't die that easily! I must have made you proud of me, I will become a great cultivator or even a throne holder so that father can boast in front of father friends that father has a son who succeeds in becoming the throne holder".

Without waiting for his father's answer again, Vann turned back to the room "Dad, from tomorrow I will go learn martial arts. I have to train my body and fighting skills tomorrow".

Vann had already closed the door of his room and was lying on the bed, he felt quite tired today which made Vann close his eyes to rest.

Looking at Vann who had left, his father sat back at the dinner table and sighed "No matter how strong you are in the future, I will not feel proud, but I must've always been worried that you might get killed by those monsters. Vann, why don't you understand what dad's saying!".

After thinking for a while, Vann's father shook his head "Forget it, I'm sure this is just Vann's momentary stupidity. A few months later, he definitely stopped trying to become a cultivator and gave up on his dreams".

Vann's father finished his meal before returning to the room, he still had work to do.

2 months later, Vann's father sits gloomily in his room. He had just finished his broadcast on Itubers, he was currently looking towards the window.

Vann's father's bedroom window was directly connected to the courtyard, therefore he could always see Vann who was practicing with a wooden sword in front of his yard.

During these 2 months, Vann really did not give up on his dream.

Although Vann still went to school under his father's pressure, but after school was over, Vann definitely made use of all his time to practice becoming a cultivator.

At noon when he just returned from school, Vann went to the sword martial house he had just joined 2 months ago.

The training time there is only 2 hours every day, then Vann back home to practice swinging swords in the field until night.

It is not known how many swords Vann swings every day, but his father knows that Vann will not stop until dinner time arrives.

When he had dinner, Vann did not sleep but studied a book on cultivation that he bought from the store.

Although these books did not teach about how to cultivate or any techniques, they did provide a basic knowledge of the history of cultivators from the past to the present as well as unique rules among cultivators.

As for how to cultivate as well as fighting techniques, all of them were the secrets of each cultivator's academy and were not spread to the public. Therefore, Vann could not get it.

"This kid is really stubborn, is he still not giving up?" said Vann's father with a heavy face.

He could see Vann's determination to become a cultivator through the changes of his body all along.

Vann who was once skinny now looked even more muscular, every time he swung the sword then a considerable force could be felt from there.

Not only that, Vann who previously only swung the sword carelessly was now more trained. Each swing of his sword was an effective blow to defeat the enemy, he learned it through the martial houses he followed.

His father continued watching until the sun began to disappear and was replaced by night, Vann put his wooden sword in the corner of the yard and walked back to the house which signaled his rest was over.

Seeing that Vann was done, his father also walked into the dining room. Despite still disagreeing over Vann's idea of becoming a cultivator, his father had something very important to tell Vann today.
