CHAPTER 34

Luki smiled at Laura's confidence, but soon she would destroy it. “Can you open her food box?”

Laura opened her food box and thrust a fork in front of Luki, half hoping that the fork could puncture the man's heart. But Laura replaced it with a sweet smile. (“Remember,Laura,”) he said inwardly, (“dia is customer”).

Luki tries to taste Laura's spaghetti, but then puts down the fork. “Ehm. So you'd better prepare another menu A for tomorrow morning. The same time. Before eight.”

Laura looked at Luki calmly. Luki was confused by Laura's gaze on her. “You can get out of my room now. See you tomorrow.”

Laura stood up and took one by one the food boxes from the bag she was carrying and placed them in front of Luki. There are nine food boxes in total. Laura opened all the boxes and pointed to the three boxes on the left. “Menu A.” Then point to the next three boxes. “Menu C.” Lastly he pointed to the three rightmost squares. “Menu D's. You can try all the menus today as well.”

Luki. She did not expect Laura to be able to prepare all the menus in such a short period of time.

Laura smiled triumphantly at Luki's silent look. “You have tasted menu B. Have a taste of the other three menus..... I told you, right, I'm a great chef?” Laura takes a new fork from her bag and thrusts it at Luki. “I don't have much time to prepare groceries for three hundred employees who are only two days away. If you don't mind, I want you to decide on the menu today.”

Luki took a new fork from Laura's hand. This time he admitted defeat to the girl in front of him. After tasting all the menus, Luki decided to choose menu A.

Laura pulled out a piece of paper. “I want you to sign this paper.”

“What is this?” Luki asked while taking the paper from her desk.

“Cooperation agreement between your company and my restaurant. It says you have chosen menu A and will not change your choice again. If you change it the day before the party, your company will bear all the compensation.”

Luki read the agreement. He had underestimated Laura's ability. This time he lost to a girl. Luki took her balpoin from the table and signed the agreement.

Laura gives one copy to Luki and takes the other for herself. “Thank you.”

Laura tidied the food box on Luki's desk and tidied it back into her bag. Before Laura left, Luki said, “I underestimated you too right?”

“I don't like your game, Luki,” says Laura seriously. “I love my job. I'm not going to play around with my work. See you in two days.”

Laura left Luki who was staring at her office door long after that.

LAURA tried to lift the spaghetti pot into the hotel room. Rafael's employee party is about to start in an hour. All the food has arrived at the hotel, just arrange the presentation at the table.

“Let mama help,” said mama while reaching for the other pan.

“Thank you, ma?” Laura began to cook. She saw mom helping the other waitress. Mama says she's bored that her job is just sewing at home. So whenever Laura was in charge of preparing the caterer, mama definitely helped her. Mama said she was happy to work with her daughter.

Party banners are starting to be installed. And a few seconds later the sound of a broken plate was heard. Laura's concentration instantly collapsed. He saw a stunned mama looking at the banner and did not realize the plate in his hand was already on the floor.

Laura had another servant clean it, then walked over to mama. “Mama, mama is okay?”

Mama is back. “Sorry, mom dropped her plate.”

“It's okay, ma.” Laura was anxious to see her mother's uncharacteristic gesture. “Mama is okay? If you are not feeling well, you should rest and go home.”

“This party...” mama holds her two daughters hands tightly. “For.... Rafael employees?”

Laura was confused. “Yes. Is correct. Party for Rafael group employees. What's up,ma?”

Mom's hand is getting tighter. “You ever met the director?”

Charles Raphael. What's up, ma? My mom's face is pale. Mama's better go home first.”

“Laura...,” says mom stammered, “...ehm... you're right... You should just go home.”.

Suddenly from behind them a man called out. “Helen?”

Mama was just as surprised. “Charles?”

Laura saw mom then Charles. “You know each other?”

“Mama wants to go home now,” mama said to Laura in a panic.

“Good.” Laura was still confused by her mother's attitude, but she decided to obey her. “Robi, please replace me.”

Laura led mom out of the hotel.

“Helen, wait!” Shouted Charles. But a hand held his departure.

“Don't follow, pa,” said Luki as she clasped her papa's hand. “Let them go. Remember, pa. There are many employees who are watching us. We don't want them to know about papa's past, do we?”

Papa let go of his son's hand. “Good. But after this party is over, papa will meet him.”

Luki was upset. The past will clash with the present.

Along the way home, Laura saw her mother speechless in a thousand languages. Arriving at home, Laura's curiosity peaked. “I've never seen mom panic like that. What's the matter, ma? Why did you know Charles?”

Mom told her daughter to sit down. “Mama think it's time you found out the truth.” “Know what?” Laura asked confusedly.

“About your father.” Mom clasped her daughter's hand. “When you were a kid, my mom promised to tell me about your dad when you grew up. Two years ago, when Mom wanted to tell you, you said you didn't want to know. Do you remember.”

Laura remembered it clearly. “I don't want to know who my father is. My mom looks sad every time she remembers it. I prefer to live with my mom. I choose not to know who my father is because forever my mother is both my father and my mother. I don't need anything else.”

Mama smiled softly. “At that time, mom felt a little relieved that there was no need to tell her about your dad. But after today, you deserve to know the truth. Because sooner or later, you'll know.”

“About my father.” Laura nodded in understanding.

“Mama will tell you everything from the beginning.” Mom tried to smile in front of her daughter. “My father was Charles Rafael, right?” Laura looked at her mother without hesitation.
