The Hensberg Family Tradition

"I was just kidding old man. Of course I know Prince Rainhart is more interested in my mother's sword techniques."

Gillian, who had just moved up, sat back down to look at the old man who was staring at him with one eye closed.

"Really~?"

The old man teased him.

"Is it really that stupid of me in your eyes rancid old man?!"

Gillian was getting upset about being played.

The grandfather ignored him again who now closed his eyes enjoying Gillian's annoyance as an added sugar in his tea.

Rainhart tries to calm Gillian down by telling her about her family's relationship with Gillian's mother.

"Do you know Gillian, if the nickname the White Rose was given by the King to your mother because of her skill in using magic that she combined in her high-class sword arts?"

"I do know that people sometimes know my mother better by that nickname than her real name, all this time I thought it was given because her silver hair tends to be white."

Gillian seemed to forget her little quarrel with the old man in front of her, with curious eyes, now focused on Prince Rainhart's words.

Rainhart smiled at him confirming Gillian's reply.

"That's not wrong either, but the nickname was more accurately given describing one of Esthelle Roseweiss's ultimate swordsmanship, the White Light Slash Technique."

"I don't think your mother could have fully taught you that technique."

With a low tone of voice Rainhart added.

The old man who understood Prince Rainhart's intentions busied himself by taking off his glasses, then he cleaned them with his cloth.

Gillian bowed silently, pondering for a moment.

Besides being known for his noble descendants in politics, it is also better known for its tradition which is slightly opposite to the other noble elites.

In general, the eldest son of the nobility trained and educated in government political science in order to continue his father's steps in the future.

But it was different in the Hensberg Family who each generation fielded his son in military activities.

"Honor and Dignity are not earned without sacrifice."

The sentence was always said by Gillian's father to him, which already seemed to be the ideology of his family.

In this world, only a few of the Human Race had the gift of magic given by the Gods before being born, and only one child from each pair of magical families had inherited the magic blood in their bloodstream.

Gillian's more upbeat and honest nature from childhood, sometimes misunderstood by those who just knew her branded her a bad boy with her stupid thoughts, always making her fall into fights and trouble.

Although Gillian came home almost every day in a state like losing a fight with other children, her mother and father were always proud of her.

"Practicing magic is like practicing your patience."

The words spoken by his late mother even to this day, Gillian could not see the connection between magic and patience.

"A true knight is a knight who does not point his sword at the people he protects."

His father's words that always make him battered were beaten by the children in the city, for not resisting.

Gillian then laughed to herself remembering it.

Although Gillian knew she had not inherited the magic blood from her mother, she was not discouraged, hoping to one day follow in her father's footsteps to become a knight the people were proud of, and protect his family especially his little sister Liliana.
