49. Stepping For the Better

Monika that night also headed to the police station. It was almost midnight when Monika and Jevan reached the police station. They saw Jovan sitting down behind bars in a corner of the room. Monika and Jovan have returned home safely after driving Jevan to the airport. As soon as he stepped in, he stopped in the middle of the room and cried then turned around to hug his wife and thank her for everything Monika had given him.

“Dad, shower first gih. I must be tired,” said Monika while handing Jovan a clean towel.

“Still,” replied Jovan then stepped inside the bathroom.

While Jovan was taking a bath, Monika cleaned up the contents of the refrigerator and took out the trash in the kitchen. With the ingredients he ended up cooking simple but at least he and Jovan could fill the stomach tonight. Monika has just told the nanny of her children also to her parents. He said that tomorrow they would return to Singapore after their parents so Monika asked the nanny to pack all Tirta and Genta clothes.

“Dad, you eat first huh. Later I will follow up, I want to take a shower first,” said Monika.

Jovan did not eat, he instead waited for Monika and when Monika finished bathing she saw Jovan just silently staring at the omelet and fried noodles made by Monika. They stayed quiet for quite a while…

“Mother, thank you for helping dad,” said Jovan again.

“Iya equally,” replied Monika.

Again they are silent…

“Mother..,” call Jovan.

“Hmm?”

“I trust you,” said Jovan while showing the note he found him on Monika's desk. All this time he continued to hold it like Monika's hand which he actually held. It was that small note that strengthened him to survive while in prison. Because she knew there was still Monika and her children who would always support her. Monika saw the small note was now worn, dirty, and almost torn to make her pensive.

“You still want to believe me?” jovan asked Monika to cry.

In front of him Jovan was still holding the note as if it were a precious object he had. Monika could only remain silent, and lowered her head to hide her cries. Jovan grabs Monika's body, and without a doubt he approaches her affectionately. He let Monika cry on his shoulder.

“Maybe it is true that Jevan said, you are my world and I am your sun. We can still be together again, right after this? Sorry, Mother, I have a lot of wrong Mother and the same children. I'm sorry, Mommy still wants to accept Dad again? Monika, you still want to accompany Jovando again? I could die if there wasn't you,” said Jovan.
