Chapter 2: A Bid to Be a Son-in-law

“Good day, Grandpa!” greet Scarlett with great enthusiasm.

He had just returned from college and went straight to Grandpa's room to carry out his duties. Exactly a month he worked there to take care of Grandpa Adam.

Adam's grandfather was a very good man. As long as Scarlett worked there, there were never any complaints from grandfather. He doesn't feel bothered. Even working there was much better than when he had to work in a nightclub. Moreover, the pay is also greater.

“How was your lecture today? What goes smoothly?” ask grandpa.

“Of course, Grandpa! I'm a smart kid. Even the presentation of my paper had received praise from the lecturer,” Scarlett said with a proud tone.

She is a passionate and confident woman. The difficulty of life does not make him give up or despair. For the sake of continuing college and maintaining his sister's education, he was willing to work hard.

“Grandfather, I want to change the bag first, yes!”

Scarlett asked permission before doing her job. He put on rubber gloves and a mask before removing the colostomy bag attached to the stomach.

As a result of colon cancer, Grandpa Adam was no longer able to defecate normally. He underwent surgery to divert dirt so that it could come out through a hole made in the stomach and was given a pouch to hold the feces. Scarlett's job is to change the bag every day and clean the area around it so as not to cause infection.

Scarlett took care of grandfather painstakingly and like there was no burden. They can talk to each other comfortably like family. Grandpa who always felt lonely now became more comforted because the cheerful Scarlett invited him to talk and tell everything he experienced. Not even the rest of the family is as caring as Scarlett.

“You don't feel disgusted working like this?” the old man asked as Scarlett cleaned the area near the colostomy hole.

Scarlett looked squinting, there was the sound of a small laugh from behind her mask. He was very relaxed doing the usual work he did.

“I think it's more disgusting to be a waitress in a nightclub, Cake. It's okay compared to when I took care of my mom. Grandpa is also good. I like taking care of my own grandfather,” replied Scarlett.

During a month together, he did tell a lot about his life to grandfather. From the moment his mother died, the father who was a gambling hobby and intoxicated, to having to work in a nightclub to pay off the debt his father left behind.

Scarlett also has a dependency to fund her sister's school which is now in 2nd grade High School and lives in a dormitory. The story makes grandfather feel touched and proud there are young people who are as strong as it is living life.

Scarlett put on a new bag after it's cleaned. He took off the mask and gloves and threw them in the trash.

“How about you marry my grandson?”

Scarlett rounded her eyes at Grandfather's question. A moment later he laughed, feeling Grandpa's joke was very funny. “This grandfather is-just there,” his gum.

“Serious grandfather, you are a good boy. It will definitely suit my grandson,” said grandfather.

Scarlett just smirked a smile.

He said grandfather was just joking. There was no way that a rich family like them would accept a daughter-in-law from a poor family like her. She once felt the bitterness of love failure when she was in a relationship with a man from a wealthy family. Only humiliation he could accept.

“Grandpa doesn't have to joke that far to entertain. I realize who I am. How could I dream of being grandfather's son-in-law's granddaughter. My grandfather knew what my family was like and how I was doing. Can live for tomorrow alone is grateful, Cake!” scarlett.

“Why are you so inferior? Grandfather will pay off all your father's debts, also finance your school and your sister to become a scholar if you want to be my granddaughter-in-law. What kind of family background problem, it is not important for grandfather.”

Scarlett was stunned listening to grandfather's words. “Ah, I'd rather eat apples than make me fantasize. Let me get it!” he walked to the table and picked up an apple and began peeling it with a knife. It was as if he had deliberately ended that senseless conversation.

“If the offer is like that, who will refuse? Grandpa should stop joking, later my dream becomes height,” Scarlett said as she brought the piece of apple she had peeled to grandfather.

Grandpa took one piece of apple that was brought to him. “Grandpa's age will not be long anymore. Before dying, grandpa wants to see my granddaughter get married.” Grandpa's facial expression looked clear.

“Grandfather can't talk like that! Grandpa will live a long life! I want to take good care of Grandpa!” Scarlett is encouraging.

Grandpa laughed a little. “You can keep taking care of me after marriage to my grandson.”

Scarlett was twitching her lips. “The joke grandfather keeps going! Even if I want to marry a grandfather's grandchild, not necessarily a grandfather's granddaughter wants to be with someone like me.”

“My grandson is submissive, he is also a good boy like you. You guys will match!” grandpa said with certainty. “Call Assistant Theo here!” pinta grandpa.

Scarlett directly came out of the room to call Assistant Theo. A short while later, the two went back in to see grandfather. Grandfather whispered something to Assistant Theo and made the man back out of the room.

Shortly thereafter, Theo returns with a young man sitting in his wheelchair. The man looked handsome despite being in a wheelchair.

“Pak Ethan?” scarlett doesn't believe it. He did not expect to meet with a former archery coach when he was still in High School. Since long ago the man was famous as a handsome coach who idolized many women, not least Scarlett. He really does not know if the grandfather he has been caring for is his grandfather Ethan.

“Scarlett? How can you be here?”

Ethan was no less surprised to see the girl in his grandfather's room. Her former young protege has now turned into a beautiful adult woman. Five years they had never met.

“Loh, it turns out you two already know each other? Don't you guys date too?” grandpa smiled happy to see the intimacy of the two people he was dating.

“No!” answer Ethan and Scarlett compact. They become awkward and clumsy.

“He used to be my student at the archery club, Cake,” Ethan tried to explain.

“It's good. So, you already know who Scarlett is. Surely you are more steady, right, to marry with this grandfather choice?” ask Grandpa Adam.

Ethan took a breath. It was unexpected that the woman that his grandfather had always praised and wanted to be betrothed to him was Scarlett. “As I've said before, grandfather. I have no problem being betrothed to anyone as long as I don't mind my condition like this.”

“I don't mind!” chirping Scarlett.

Realizing her speechless self, Scarlett instantly shut her mouth. Ethan and Grandpa stared at him. He is too excited to meet Ethan.

The flowers of first love bloom again. Had there been no grandfather there, Scarlett might have embraced him. Scarlett really idolizes Ethan even now.

“Tuh, listen to yourself. Scarlett doesn't mind marrying you,” said the happy grandfather.

“Scarlett, are you sure?” ask Ethan in astonishment.

Scarlett's face looks so red. He nodded his head slowly to answer Ethan's question.
