Two years had passed since Qin Chen left the Chu Kingdom after relinquishing his Princely title, and severing the family's relationship with the Chu Kingdom.

Staying far away from the Chu Kingdom, or rather the land he lived in belonged to the territory of the Shu Kingdom, a Kingdom that was as powerful and as large as the Chu Kingdom.

For more than two years living in a place far away from the hustle of the city, Qin Chen changed his identity, and now he works as a hired soldier who usually escorts the nobles.

“Brother Chen, two more days in the royal palace of Shu will be held a competition to select the bodyguards, which will be the personal escort of the Crown Princess. “How much money can we make by becoming the Crown Princess' personal bodyguard? Is that money twice as much as our monthly income as a pay bodyguard?” qin Chen asked.

“Not twice, but we can get ten times more monthly salary than our monthly income as mercenaries,” Qiao Bao replied then she showed a smile on her face.

“Hmmm.... a considerable amount, but are you sure that we can be a winner in that competition?” said Qin Chen.

“With me joining a squad with you, is there still hope that another team can defeat us? We are the strongest, and certainly the competition we can definitely win,” exclaimed Qiao Bao excitedly.

During Qiao Bao's time, Qin Chen sometimes felt uncomfortable with the ridiculous things that people often did. However, Qin Chen admitted that Qiao Bao was not a figure he could underestimate.

“Alright, we will enter that competition, but don't expect too much if we can win that competition!” qin Chen said calmly.

“Hmmm!.” Qin Chen nodded his head, then he said to Qiao Bao, “There will be many strong warriors who will definitely enter the competition. I remind you not to do silly things as long as we enter the competition, if you still want victory!..”

“My brother, you are calm! I will not do silly things, which only give others a chance to snatch victory from our hands.” Qiao Bao's face looked extremely solemn as he said all that.

“Entah how many times have I heard those words come out of your mouth, but in the end you still just do silly things,” Qin Chen said to laughs softly Qiao Bao.

Only then did Qin Chen finish sharpening the sword in his hand, suddenly the horse carriage he was riding stopped, along with the sound of fighting not far from his place.

Before long the chariot coachman told Qin Chen and Qiao Bao that in front of them there was a battle between Royal soldiers with a group of people believed to be a herd of bandits.

“Master, if that bandit herd can defeat a Royal warrior, surely they will also take what is inside our horse carriage,” exclaimed the chariot coachman who began to fear the existence of a herd of bandits.

“Master, don't you guys want to help the Royal soldiers? Of the many soldiers of the guard, it seems like they are escorting the journey of an important figure for the Kingdom,” back the chariot coachman said.

“Master may be able to get extra pay by helping them,”.

“How about my brother, are you interested in helping them and getting extra pay?” qiao Bao asked, turning his head, looking at Qin Chen next to him.

“Because you love money so much, quickly get out and help them!” said Qin Chen answering Qiao Bao's question.

“Oh my brother, can you let me fight them alone? At least help me beat up one or two of them,” Qiao Bao said.

Looking at Qiao Bao's parched face, Qin Chen could only sigh, then he just walked out from inside the horse carriage, and saw the battle that was going on between the Royal soldiers and the bandit herd.

With his martial arts and deep power techniques, the dozens of bandits who could not cultivate inner strength were not worth the opponent for him. Evidently in just a few seconds, dozens of bandits died at Qin Chen's hands, while the rest went on the run with wounds all over their bodies.

Qin Chen only used basic martial arts against them, but with the use of inner strength, basic martial arts became extremely deadly when he did.

After clearing the bandit herd, Qin Chen directed his gaze towards the injured Royal warrior, then his eyes immediately fell on the figure of the beautiful woman who had just stepped out of the horse carriage.

The woman so gracefully set foot leaving her carriage, walking towards Qin Chen.

“Master, thank you for saving us,” said the woman who is none other than Liu Yao, Crown Princess of Shu Kingdom.

“I just did what I was supposed to do,” said Qin Chen who was being indifferent to Princess Liu Yao.

Instead of being angry with Qin Chen's indifference, Princess Liu Yao showed a smile behind her veil, ‘From the many men I met, only she wasn't stunned when she saw me,’ Princess Liu Yao said inwardly.

“Master, what if you want to return help, which Master on us?” ask Princess Liu Yao.

“I don't want anything from you, but at least give one or two pieces of silver to my friend who's there! I don't think one or two pieces of silver will make you poor, ” Qin Chen replied, pointing his hand at Qiao Bao.

“Don't get a piece or two of silver, I can give you dozens of pieces of gold, as long as you want to be my personal bodyguard!” said Princess Liu Yao who had just offered Qin Chen to be her personal bodyguard after she saw the plaque of the mercenary bodyguard, bound in Qin Chen's belt.

Qiao Bao suddenly came, and immediately took a kneeling stance before Princess Liu Yao.

“Hamba Qiao Bao saluted Princess Liu Yao,” she said who recognized Princess Liu Yao, unlike Qin Chen who did not recognize her.

“Princess, forgive the servant brother who does not recognize the Princess, even he did not salute in the presence of the princess,” Qiao Bao said as he pulled Qin Chen's arm, asking him to do as he was doing.

“You don't have to apologize! Your brother is the savior of my life. So, it should have been me who paid her respects,” Princess Liu Yao replied.

Then Princess Liu Yao immediately said her wish which was to make Qin Chen and Qiao Bao her personal bodyguards.

Qiao Bao who did want that position, without thinking for a second he immediately agreed to what Princess Liu Yao wanted, she said, in contrast to Qin Chen who still looks to be thinking about what decision he will take.

“My brother, what else do you think? Didn't we agree to the competition? Look now, we can become Princess Liu Yao's personal bodyguard, without having to enter the competition,” Qiao Bao said as he looked at Qin Chen still not giving an answer.

“Alright, I agreed to be Princess Liu Yao's bodyguard, but I will not do any duty outside of the duties of a bodyguard,” Qin Chen said firmly, and with full authority.

Despite using a veil to cover part of his face, Qin Chen knew that Princess Liu Yao was smiling behind her veil after hearing her words.

Princess Liu Yao handed the plaque of the personal bodyguards to Qin Chen and Qiao Bao, then she said, “Solve your final task, and meet me immediately at the Crown Princess's palace!.”

Qin Chen received the plaque Princess Liu Yao gave him, as well as Qiao Bao, “Princess rest assured, we immediately met the Princess at the Crown Princess's palace once our last duty as a freelancer was completed,” said Qiao Bao who could not hide his happy feelings because he had been appointed as Princess Liu Yao's personal bodyguard.

Hearing that Princess Liu Yao simply smiled, then she took the time to look at Qin Chen, before leaving to continue on towards the palace of the Shu Empire.

While Qin Chen and Qiao Bao, they again escorted the horse carriage carrying the best silk clothes belonging to a noble, towards the residence of the noble who had hired their services.
