The school became a less attractive place for Deril. She wasn't like her sociable sister, so she spent her time idly in class, looking out the window all day. The rain still greets the earth. Miraculously, this city was not flooded even though the rain lasted all day, unlike the city before.
After school, Deril waited for Diana near the gate. Deril could see some of his classmates intending to talk to him, but Deril hurriedly refused indirectly by attaching the headset to the ear.
There was no song that he played.
Deril stared at his lit cell phone screen. He saw a picture of a blue sky that became wallpaper, pretending to be busy with his own world. Inwardly, Deril cursed Diana who was late to return home. This is not the first incident. Diana was often late at school. Diana was a beautiful girl who said. Many kids like it. That kept him stuck for one or two reasons.
Once Deril decided to go home first, letting Diana enjoy her time with friends. However, Serena instead gave him advice all day for leaving her sister alone. Deril dislikes it more, rather than having to wait for Diana for a long time.
"Hey!"
Deril jumped as a head poked before his eyes. His phone almost went to the ground. "W-what!?" deril's great-grandson, pissed off.
"We're in class, right? What are you waiting for?" tanyakanya.
The woman in front of him had shoulder-length hair with an oval face. Her hair is a little wavy. Even without makeup, the woman looked sweet. He even has dimples.
"Wait for sister," Deril replied while throwing his face away.
"I am Nala" the woman reached out. His hands are very small. After standing upright, his body was only as high as Deril's chest. "I sat at the front. Actually don't like it, anyway. But, sitting in the back, I don't see anything" Nala nyerocos.
Deril returned his hand. His mouth remained closed. He still thinks that making friends is useless. Who knows, in a few months his father will have to move because of the mutation again. The mutation is inevitable, because they need money and Deril is not old enough to work part time.
"I'll introduce you to my friends, okay?" ask Nala. No time Deril refused, Nala had turned around and waved at the three men that Deril had seen. "Here, guys! He didn't bite, though! It looks scary!" call Nala.
The three men Nala called out, walking over. They have friendly faces. Without hesitation, they reached out to Deril.
"God."
"Johan."
"Dian."
Deril shook their hands in turns. Still without a sound, Deril only paid attention to his interlocutor.
"Where do you live? Riding the bus?"
Deril nodded. "I just moved to a residential area near the forest there," Deril replied, pointing to his return.
The four of them exchanged looks. A second later, their eyes were filled with a hopeful twinkle, like the eyes of a puppy who found meat for breakfast.
"Don't tell Mika's house?"
"You know Mika?"
Deril. He probably knew people who lived around his house, but he had only moved two days ago. Deril is still busy with the wall and the arrangement of his room. If they asked Serena, there might be an answer, because her mother was busy greeting the neighbors around the house.
"Well! You should meet him!" Nala patted Deril's arm, excited.
"Absolutely agree with Nala!" Johan. "I've seen Mika once, when she played at Sebastian's house last month. She is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen!"
Deril's eyebrows are wrinkled. He suddenly remembered the girl who lived next door. That girl is amazingly beautiful. If anyone was more beautiful than her, it would have been just an angel.
"Other times. My house is still very messy" replied Deril. Deril's attention was distracted at Diana's arrival. Together with three new friends, Diana finally came out of the Junior High. "My sister has arrived. I go home first" Deril said in a hurry. He walked over to Diana. "Diana, let's go home!"
Diana looked up, followed by some of her friends. "Friends, meet me, this is my brother. She's a high school kid in the next building," Diana introduces Deril to her three friends.
Diana's three friends looked enthusiastic. When else can they get to know a High School guy. Moreover, Deril is quite handsome. Just less well-maintained.
"Hello, I'm Deril, Diana's sister. I take her home, yes! It's been waiting for the parents at home," Deril interrupted the conversation and directly dragged Diana out of the school gate.
"Oh, what a big brother, anyway! I, right, helped Brother to socialize!" diana protested while thrashing, asking to be released.
"I don't need your help" said Deril. "Hurry home! I'm gonna take a break!"
Diana snorted in disbelief. "Just wait until I'm in high school and can go home alone, I don't want to go home with Brother anymore!" diana Rajuk.
Deril didn't bully him. Diana had no idea how much Deril wanted to escape from Diana who always followed him. Deril also wants to have a life of his own. For example, going to a music store, calmly choosing an album that he is interested in, or just looking at the list of the latest songs of the month. Or, she could sit in a small cafe, spending her allowance this week, while watching the sunset. That's the calm Deril wants.
Deril's hand was raised, stopping a taxi. "Hurry in!" deril orders once the taxi stops perfectly not far from them. Diana was just fucked. He knows, there's no point fighting with Deril. After telling his home address to the taxi driver, Deril put the headset back in his ear, then leaned his head back. Deril's eyes were closed with his hands folded in front of his chest. He was not going to talk to Diana.
"You guys are new here, huh?" a taxi driver named Budi started a conversation.
"Yes, Sir! Just moved out two days ago," Diana responded. "The real father here?"
"Yes, Neng. From my great-grandfather was born and settled here."
Deril glanced out the window, wanting to make sure that the taxi driver was turning in the right direction. Deril closed his eyes again when he found out they were on the right path, not wanting to have to engage with the conversation between his sister and the taxi driver.
"If the area is there, it means the same housing as Neng Mika, yes?"
As soon as the name sounded again in Deril's ears, he started to get interested. If the woman named Mika was known by a child her age, it was a natural thing. But, if the taxi driver also knows her, it means Mika is equivalent to an artist.
"By the way, you're bule, huh?"
"Our father is American, sir," Diana easily revealed her origins, when she had just met a stranger. "Well... It's raining again."
Deril spontaneously looked out again. Drizzle started to say hello. No wonder, these months are the rainy season. He had to face the air that was more humid than a normal day.
Arriving in front of the house, no one welcomed their arrival. Deril suspects that his father has begun activities in his new office in the city center which is about fifteen kilometers from their home. While his mother, may also go to the supermarket they had passed to buy kitchen needs. They are unlikely to eat instant noodles three days in a row.
Diana immediately sauntered into the house, letting Deril fall behind her. Deril didn't come in right away. Of course his eyes were shifted to the house next door. Secretly, he wished he could see the woman again.
Unexpectedly, his hope was fulfilled. The woman's head poked out from behind the first floor window of the next house. His long black hair rolled upwards, showing off his level neck. There was a streak of pink ink on his cheek. He seems to be painting.
