The second morning class ended and it was time to rest.
Juliette pulled out a hearing aid box from inside her backpack, carried it behind her back, and walked to the Jordan chair.
He lightly tapped the corner of the Jordanian table with his fingers.
Jordan, who was tidying up his notes, slowly turned his head and looked at Juliette.
He was silent for two seconds then asked in a clear voice, "Is there anything you need?"
Juliette smiled and said, "Jordan, come with me, please."
After saying so, he turned around and started walking towards the exit.
Jordan naturally noticed the gift box that Juliette was carrying behind her back, put the pen in its place, got up slowly, and followed it. Martius, who had been observing Juliette from the back row, suddenly felt an inexplicable rage within him.
Martius' friends were also aware of the scene, and someone commented, "Juliette has been getting closer to Jordan lately. First, the hearing aid incident, then at the gym yesterday, and now he's with the initiative to take her out. Maybe they're dating?"
Someone replied, "Why should Juliette be involved with someone like Jordan, the recipient of social assistance?"
"Why not? It's not like there wasn't an example of a relationship in high school before."
"Maybe it's part of a secret friend's assessment. They had been in one class for two more years and had never spoken to each other. If they liked each other, they would have started dating a long time ago, instead of waiting now."
"But why did Juliette help her take hearing aid back then? Obviously the hearing aid just happened to roll into his leg."
Martius sat at the side, listening to their discussion, his feelings growing bored.
There was a feeling of uneasiness flowing through his limbs, not being able to ease it too much.
Although Juliette stole the attention of Jordan, the person she should protect, did she really have to put in the effort to be kind to him, this filthy and despicable social object?
Threats, temptations, any method would easily solve it. Why do they have to interact so much ?
Fourth floor, end of corridor.
Juliette stood in front of the Jordan, handing her a beautiful hearing aid box wrapped neatly. "This is for you. Your hearing aid was damaged by Martius back then, so it might not work properly. It's time for a new one."
Jordan lowered his head, his gaze locked onto the gift box that Juliette held in her hand.
The wrapper was so beautiful, covered by English words, a foreign brand that he did not recognize, yet he could guess this was a luxury product at a price that was definitely expensive.
Seeing the Jordan hesitant to accept her, Juliette spoke softly, "Don't feel burdened. I promise to protect you, this is part of the deal. You just need to give me an 'A' in the assessment later this month."
After hearing this, Jordan looked at Juliette's eyes for a long time before finally extending her hand to receive her.
Juliette smile. "Open up and look."
Jordan nodded his head gently and opened the gift box, revealing a small and beautiful hearing aid located on a black velvet cloth, with an attractive and structured shell.
Juliette said, "Wear it."
Jordan nodded and removed the cheap hearing aid in his ear.
The white case had some fine cracks, making it look cheaper and more worn out compared to the one inside the gift box. He stuffed the old hearing aid into his uniform pocket.
Although without hearing, Jordan could only hear her voice at normal volume, though Juliette raised her voice and spoke directly to her ear.
Staying calm, he gave a weak answer, "If you get closer and speak louder, I can hear you. But if you go further and speak slowly, I won't hear anything."
Juliette asked with a mischievous smile, "Really?"
Jordan nodded his head, confirming, "Yes."
Juliette laughed and stepped back, her hands behind her.
He kept retreating until it was about five steps away from him. He glanced at her with cold clear eyes and slightly loosened his lips, speaking softly, "I like you."
Jordan grasps the gift box with a hearing aid given by Juliette. He looked at Juliette who was five steps away from him.
She did not lie to Juliette; what she said was reality. Without a hearing aid, he can only hear when someone is talking loudly and being close, but if they are far away and talking quietly, he cannot hear anything at all.
His right ear had severe hearing loss, which greatly affected his auditory perception.
However, what Jordan did not tell Juliette was that she could understand lip reading. Therefore, she knew what Juliette was saying.
Juliette admits that she likes it.
Jordan grasped the edge of the gift box tightly, exerting a pressure that made his fingers slightly pale.
He realized that Juliette was playing around with him. He repeatedly guided himself not to be deceived by his words or actions.
He is skilled in disguise and may even fear the existence of variables in their agreement.
Therefore, he deliberately teases her, making her start liking him, giving Julieta the guarantee to get an 'A' score in the end-of-month evaluation.
However, even so, his useless heart could not be controlled and ticked anxiously, almost piercing through his thin skin.
As the Jordan sank into thought, Julieta had returned to her side, looking calm and calmly asking, "Have you heard what I've said?"
Calmly, Jordan shook his head, avoiding his gaze. "No, I didn't hear."
Julieta made sure, "You really didn't hear anything?"
A slight embarrassed tone sounded from Jordan's voice as he replied, "Without wearing a hearing aid, of course I can't hear."
He immediately stored the gift box quickly, his gaze wary. "Julieta, we agree on three things, and only three things. You don't have to do anything extra."
Julieta looks at him. "Why? Don't you like it?"
Jordan looked at him, his poor pride dominated him, and spoke without choosing his words carefully, "We made a covenant, I am not a beggar."
After hearing this, Julieta remained calm, showing no anger due to the ignorance of the Jordan. "All right, I get it."
Jordan's face tensed up as he immediately walked into the classroom, carrying a gift box.
He was afraid and disliked this feeling of losing control. He wanted to get into a prestigious university and escape from the lower classes.
Every step of his life at Hope High School must be perfect.
