SILENT SENTENCE

SILENT SENTENCE
7. THE BROTHER'S WORD FIGHT

DEKA stared hatefully into Ken's eyes as his brother appeared in the middle of his birthday party preparations, which was in the spacious garden of their home. Ken who was stared at like that started to feel uncomfortable and clumsy.

“Kha, nda—”

“Stop, stop!” Deka cut, revealing both of his palms in front of Ken's face,

“better you just shut up because the sound of the mutter is disturbing.”

Ken gulped and then nodded. Once again, he had to swallow a bitter pill that made him sick. Deka's harsh treatment and speech really made both of her knees go limp.

“Know why I called you here?”

Ken shook his head, producing a sinister smile on Deka's face. Meanwhile, around them, the helpers and some of the house gardeners occasionally stole a glance towards the 2 brothers who were different in nature. The feeling of anger and anxiety mingled into one in their hearts, it would certainly sound clear in their ears about what Deka would say to Ken in a moment.

“I want 1 thing. My birthday party will be held later tonight, and.”.

Deka paused his sentence, staring cynically again at the elder as the mute man developed a smile. Was this brother he had never considered happy? But, because what? Ken is waiting for the continuation of Deka's speech, could this brother be talking about the good news and split the pieces of his birthday cake later tonight?

“I want..” Again, Deka keeps Ken waiting. Deka really gives great hope this time, “...you hid during the party.”

Ken didn't react much. He was just silent like the best listener and as if he could have expected this to happen. The thin lips of the man were tightly clenched with the tongue. His silence grew mute, even a single breath stuck in his throat.

“Au ghakh pha hamph (I don't understand).”

Ken's eyes turned wry, his calm demeanor just now lasted for a moment. He stared directly at the two eyeballs that were the same as their Mama's on Deka's face. The youngest stroked the chest, feeling breathless with all of Ken's stammering and strange speech. Talking to him takes a lot of patience. However, Deka was completely unaware that he had crushed his brother's high hopes.

“No rejection. You hide, whatever it is. I wouldn't watch you go to a party and make all my friends see you. Know, no? Not only my classmates came, but also my friends from out of town. I don't want to be mistaken for an autistic child caretaker who's learning to talk, so I hope you'll work together.”

Deka said a long word and ended it with a powerful sigh.

“Hung!”

Ken nodded, looking so excited and managed to make Deka's countenance change even though it was vague. There was a sense of wonder with the look of Ken's spirit, but he was so grim and could not accept. Very care! The important thing is that his birthday party tonight goes smoothly without any eye-bothering, doesn't that sound evil? However, the heart seems to be tightly closed by the hardest board. However, Ken believes one thing; his concern for Deka will not be in vain and will change his sister's attitude someday.

DEKA pulled Ken's collar when the teenager walked into his sister's room. At the time, Ken was sitting working on something and was surprised when his collar was pulled very roughly by someone. Deka stared intently and full of anger at Ken, while being stared at in confusion.

“You want to know why I didn't like you back, Ken? If so, fine with it!” Deka exclaimed in front of Ken's unsettled face.

“I..” Deka pointed at his own chest, the other hand remained clutching Ken's collar until the cloth turned tangled, “... I like someone, know who the girl is?”

Ken nodded, trying to digest what Deka wanted to say.

“I've always loved Ayu, Ken! But many say that you like it too, and Ayu herself does too! I'm just being nice to you. Turns out to be true, you are the taker of the rights and happiness of others!”

The deg! Ken flinched, he wasn't deaf at all. Everything that Deka called out sounded so clear. There is a misunderstanding here.

“Kha, sipa ang asih au? A’u dak ad—”

“Aaagh! Don't talk! I don't want to hear any explanation. You really have the heart for me, everything that is my pleasure you take. First, you seize all the time that Mama and Papa have for me, you grab their attention. Everyone praises your cleverness, but I'm not as stupid as people think, Ken. I'm even smarter than you, but why don't Papa and Mama look at me, just defend you whenever you're guilty?!”

“Kha, a’u—”

“DIAM! SILENCE!”

Deka pushed Ken's body until his brother's back hit very hard with a fairly high bookshelf, so several thick books fell.

“Kha, Ay—”

“Do not talk, Ken. Please don't say anything. Everything you said couldn't possibly make my view of you change again. I don't believe anything right now. Papa and Mama are yours, even now Ayu is moving on to you. At first I thought he would choose me, but it turns out that a mute and weak person like you is the one he chose. I don't understand why you always get everything you want, Ken.”

Deka blocked by showing both palms in front of the chest. The gaze of his sister looked like a frightened and confused person now.

“Kha..” Ken began to feel his eyes heating up.

Deka smiled bitterly, “they saw you, Ken. They saw you go for a walk with Ayu to a nice place. Oh, that's great! Next time, tell more details of your trip memories with Ayu, yes. Is he chatty and ask you to take a picture, hm?”

“KHA! AYU KHAN KASIH A’U!”

“IF HE'S NOT YOUR GIRLFRIEND, THEN WHY ARE YOU SO FRIENDLY, HUH?! VIEW THIS!”

Ken's eyes widened when 2 photos were plastered in front of his eyes on Deka's cellphone. Tears immediately pooled in Ken's beautiful pelubuk, apparently he was found out.

“Kha, mba’af... Mba’af.”.

“Why do you always apologize, Ken? Keep going, after that you will be happy. Ayu good girl, she will definitely be happy to have a good person like you too. From now on, Ken..”

Deka took a deep breath, not believing herself to be going back to saying the same words as before.

“...from now on don't see me again, assume we don't know each other. Because..because you should never have been in my family.”

Afterwards, Deka turned out of the quiet room, leaving Ken seated with a blank look at a box on the study table. He cried without a sound, weeping over fate and stupidity that made his beloved sister hurt. Her crying was heartbreaking. Could all efforts only bear fruit? Why did his belief in happiness fade? Over time, the cry changed violently until it was heard by a woman who considered herself a failure to educate her children.

‘My dear children... Oh my Great Lord.’

Deka's birthday party is festive, all his friends are invited and joined in the same happiness. The sound of ballad music is melodious, does not make drowsiness even at night, but also does not make the listener bored. A very large birthday cake has been half-remaining, laughter and jokes blend into one tonight. Various types of clothing and knickknacks invited guests become the attraction of every eye, invited guests Pak Hardi as a co-worker authoritative man also did not forget to come because invited.

No one does not comment on smiles, no one does not look blissfully happy—including a girl who had been a debate between Deka and Ken a few days ago, he said, also present to fill the event and get a third piece of cake after the parents of Deka themselves. Deka occasionally flips silly on Ayu and makes the girl holler shy and irritated. Hendri's cheered laughter became one of the spectacles of several guests because Agus who did not succeed in seducing an upperclassman who was also invited to the event.

Behind the curtain of joyful happiness, stored a poignant story that has been arranged before by the main character. In the pink color of excitement, there is a aloof gray color in the evening livability. As everyone laughs and laughs sillyly, 1 wistful smile etched behind the scenes flickers of a birthday party.

‘Deca, you are an adult now. You will exceed me even higher.’

I want Ken to cry, to pay for his grief with his own tears. But she remembered that tonight was a joyful night for one of the family members she loved so much, and she should not cry, be angry or be envious. He stood very far from the position of Deka and their parents at this time, precisely in a small room that was not much passed by invited guests. Watching from far away the party that was so slick.

Deka tells Ken to hide, because he does not want the guests to know and see that he has a brother who can not talk. Ken's voice that just came out just now sounded annoying because it was difficult to understand. Ken did not refuse when Deka told him to stay in the room, but in his heart the teenager was already screaming because he was hurt. His biological brother told him to split the place from all the guests, didn't that sound pathetic and embarrassing?

Ken is even more embarrassed than Deka, because there is no stopping the treatment that hurts Ken is done by his sister and friends.

From that distance, Ken stared at the late-goals of his sister and her parents, thinking maybe tomorrow or the day after tomorrow it would be impossible to see them again. He tried to smile even though tears continued on both of his tapered cheeks, shouldn't everyone smile at the birthday party, hm?

‘Happy birthday, my sister. Be strong in facing tests to strengthen others. One day, the toughest test for you will come. The only thing you need for it is confidence in yourself, as well as in those who believe in you.'

Ken left the mansion after previously entering Deka's room and putting something there. Wearing a black hooded jacket, he went riding a bicycle. The man walked away from the house full of cold happiness. For a while, Ken wanted to refresh his head to calm the mind.
