Chapter 31 - Gudeg City

"Mom, Ning can explain. Maafin Ning was not honest with grandma from the beginning," great-grandson Bening was sad and had broken tears.

His fingers trembled and interlocked. He was afraid that Grandma Minah would throw him out. He must be confused. He has to go where he is if it happens.

"Did Ayu know you were pregnant?" ask Grandma Minah who immediately got a nod from Bening.

A heavy sigh ambushed this old woman. He was so surprised to see the astonishing facts that happened in his home. Even his adopted grandson already knew the condition of Bening but chose to silence.

Bening also told that he was a rape victim when in Bandung, during his school graduation ceremony. The same story he told Ayu last time. But the true identity of Bening is still kept tight.

"Grandma's worried you're being rejected by the people here. Especially since the village head changed, Ayu had contacted the grandmother of the incident that happened in this village some time ago. But my mischievous grandson that one silenced a thousand languages on the line. Never talked about what happened to you. Just be careful when you go home. I'll punish him!" said Grandma Minah grunt sebal.

"Don't law Ayu, Grandma. It's all Ning's fault. Sorry Ning yes, Grandma."

After the condition of Grandma Minah improved by trying to accept Bening aka Ningsih at her home, Ayu went home before it was evening.

Ayu explained to Grandma carefully. Finally, the grandmother can legowo accept the condition of Ningsih.

The three did dinner together at the dinner table after worshiping. When Ayu and Bening were busy washing their used dishes, suddenly the door of Grandma Minah's house was pounded.

The sound of screaming from the outside was heard very loud to the inside of the house. Making these three women different ages quite frightened, especially Bening. His hand suddenly tremors.

"Whose voice is that, Grandma?" ayu asked softly, suddenly his guts shrunk.

The Grandma was silent, she asked Ayu and Bening not to make any sound. Slowly Grandma Minah who is old is walking near the front window of her house.

He also opened a little gap in the curtains and his mouth was gaping to see the crowd in front of his house. The village chief and the villagers were carrying torches and wooden sticks and ropes. I don't know what they're gonna do at this rickety residence.

"Grandmother Minah. Hand Ningsih. That woman is a fucking carrier!" shouted the Village Chief.

"Let's just burn the house down if they don't come out!" threaten one of the citizens.

"Ningsih out!" shouted the other citizens.

"Hurry out!" the village head.

The one in the back row smiled with satisfaction. Yes, the residents and village heads were successfully instigated by Onah who said that Ningsih was pregnant out of wedlock because of promiscuity.

A grudge against Ningsih and Ayu. Because because of the incident the other day when Onah made a scene, he was fired by the shop manager, where they worked.

Because Ayu told the juragan that Onah often menilep alias steal food stalls in the warehouse to be sold to vegetable makers. Of course the boss was angry.

Grandma Minah immediately went back to meet Ayu and Ningsih.

"Hurry and clean up your things. Get out of this house right through the back door. There's a little money from Grandma. You two go to the bus terminal. Yu, take Ningsih to Yogyakarta to Bude Lina's house. Especially the late Pakdemu is a member of the police. Surely you are safe there," said Grandma Minah while handing over some money to Ayu.

"But, Grandma. Ayu does not want to leave grandma alone here," Ayu's sad little grandson.

"Grandma will be fine. Hurry Yu, you guys don't have much time!" peekik Grandma Minah.

"Ah, why go to Bude Lina's house anyway. Grandma knows I rarely go there because I am lazy to meet the pretentious Junet. Where nosy again, huft!" exclaim Ayu with a tinge.

"Juneet? Junet who?" ask Bening.

"Junet's my cousin Ning. The guy is arrogant anyway. Don't mess with him. Sok Cool kayak refrigerator twenty doors. Small pairs are often as nosy as me and other cousins. Understandably he's an only child, so like nosy as we-we."

"Especially the same friend he was often invited to visit the Junet to Bude's house. Really bummer. Rancid. Pengin no pites!" angered Ayu made Bening laugh a little.

*(pites\=cubit)

"Come fast! Are you ready for all your stuff?" asked Grandma Minah who was replied by a soft nod by Ayu and Bening.

"Sorry Ningsih, Grandma. In case Ning has been wrong all this time," said Bening merrily as he kissed Grandma Minah's hand with reverence and hugged this old woman who he had loved as much as his own grandmother.

"Wes rapopo, Nduk. Sing ati-ati nang dalan," advised Grandma Minah while returning Ayu and Ningsih's arms.

*(Nothing, Son. The important thing is to be careful on the road).

Both of them rushed to the back door. Ayu and Ningsih had difficulty getting out of the village. Because the village gate has been closed and guarded by security residents.

Luckily Ayu knew the way of the rats that finally made them managed to get out safely from the village. Even though he fell while running. But Bening told Ayu that he was fine.

They both sat on the bus with breath. The bus will take them from there to the city of Gudeg, Yogyakarta.

"Grandmother, I hope grandma is okay there. Maafin Ayu, "inwardly Ayu cried to see the lonely highway in the depths of the night from the glass of the bus.

There are only a few street lights that light up and the spotlights of vehicles that are still passing.

"Thank you very much, Grandma. Bening will always remember the same Grandma, "inwardly Bening mute.
