Every time he saw Mr. Daus, Vedra's guts were shrinking. The middle-aged man really looks like his mother who used to greet him with an expression full of anger every time the little Vedra came home to play when the magrib was approaching. His mother would glare and nag, drag him to the bathroom and then splash him with cold water.
Well, let his mother say always nagging like that, still the next day and the following days little Vedra will repeat the same mistake. Please be advised, his name is still a child.
But this time Vedra really felt daunted by the eyes of Mr. Daus who looked haphazard because of the tears that pooled in his eyes.
At the same time, Vivie's attention was shifted to the figure of a tall man who was now approaching them. The man looked unfamiliar yet familiar in Vivie's eyes.
"Jehun kw," Vivie tried to guess who the stranger was.
The man nodded, "How is Verda doing?"
Vivie got out of her seat, walked up to the man and pushed him hard.
"Where have you been?! Why are you coming now?!" amuk Vivie's.
"Vie!" Bian immediately snatched Vivie.
"How did my brother get into an accident like this?!" shout Vivie.
Vedra could only duck, guilt instantly ambushed her.
"Vie, calm down," pinta Bian while tightly hugging Vivie.
"How can I calm down, Bi?! This man must be the cause of everything!" cecar Vivie's.
"Vivie, enough!" sergeant Mr. Daus.
"A-dad," Vivie gasped in shock.
"Right now to be mad at him is also free! It all happened! All we can do right now is pray, ask God for Verda to wake up from the coma" Daus said firmly.
Vivie cries in Bian's arms.
"Vie, relax" said Bian.
Vedra is still stiffening, right now her mind is completely blank. His eyes stared at the tightly shut door of the ICU room. Inside, Verda was lying with medical equipment to support her life.
"Do you know, my brother is currently struggling to stay alive?! And you came just to ask how my brother is doing?!" Vivie throws hate speech at Vedra.
Vivie had to vent her anger at the man. He was convinced that the man was the main cause of Verda's accident.
"Where were you when my brother had an accident?" ask Vivie.
"Are you with another woman?" ask Vivie again.
Vedra was stupefied, at this moment in her mind spinning quickly the debate she had last night with Verda.
Vedra still vividly remembered Verda's disappointed expression with tears welling up in the woman's eyes.
"Is Silvia more important than me?"
"Is taking Silvia home your top priority over me?"
"Ved, do you think our relationship hasn't been important?"
Verda's questions swirled in her mind as Korean songs were commonly sung by Verda. There was a sense of tightness that slowly gripped tightly onto his lungs, making him lose the ability to breathe as he normally would.
"My guess is right?!" ask Vivie.
Vedra seemed to lose her ability to answer Vivie's question. He felt unable to deny that yesterday he was with another woman, Silvia.
"Relieve! You really are heart! Are you really happy to play with women?!" cecar Vivie's.
Want it felt Vivie clawed and grabbed the man's hair to vent her pity.
"Vivie, that's enough," Bian tightened his embrace on Vivie.
As soon as the door of the ICU room opened, a doctor dressed in full PPE came out of the room.
"Miss Verdanica's family" the doctor said.
"Doctor, how is my son?!" Eva became the first person to greet the doctor.
"Father, Mother, let us pray together, that Miss Verdanica may go through her critical period immediately" the doctor said briefly.
Like being struck by lightning in broad daylight, Ms. Eva slumped to the floor in tears.
Mr. Daus covered his face with both palms. He could not hold back his tears.
It was a stifling sight, but right now that was what Vedra had to face.
...*****...
Vedra steps gontai follow in the footsteps of Mr. Daus who invites him to talk. The two of them walked down the hospital corridor which began to quiet as soon as the big clock ended.
Mr. Daus took Vedra out of the hospital building, heading to a park that functioned as a playground for children to wait for their parents who were visiting patients. Regulations in such hospitals are quite strict, children under the age of twelve should not enter the building unless the patient is ill.
Mr. Daus holds one of the two available swings. The middle-aged man was still silenced washed away in silence.
"Every time I see a swing like this, I always remember when Verda was a kid. I always accompany Verda to swing, push her from behind and Verda will laugh with joy at the feeling she is flying" Mr. Daus began to tell a story.
"Honestly, I am a parent who always put my family's happiness first, although sometimes what I do is not always considered that way, especially by Verda. For Verda, I might be an over-colotted old man, imposing his will on Verda without thinking about his feelings. Considered to be against the big decisions in Verda's life, especially when Verda decided to marry you," said Mr. Daus.
"I'm against your marriage, and I haven't approved of it, because I feel that you haven't been able to look after Verda. And behold, as a result of your incompetence, my precious daughter must die like that."
"Try to position yourself as me. What would you do if you were me?"
Vedra could only shut up and listen.
"I really don't know what's going on between you two. If what Vivie said about you and the other woman was true, then what could I do?"
"You're angry for free, a waste of energy. My high blood pressure could go up. I might be the one who has a stroke."
"You want to hold you accountable? But Verda had a single accident and you're not with her."
Mr. Daus kept his tone, relaxed but really rained like a thousand sembilu into the heart of Vedra.
"Now I ask, what do you want?" ask Mr. Daus.
Vedra still remained silent because she really felt very guilty.
"If you want me anyway, you better split up well. If you find it hard to part well, now you're leaving without excuse anyway no problem for me."
"Sir Daus," Vedra dared herself to interrupt.
"I realized I had made a mistake. But at least please give me a chance to take responsibility for what happened to Verda" Vedra said.
"I don't think it's necessary" said Mr. Daus.
"Sir Daus, I am Verda's husband, Verda is my responsibility" Vedra insisted.
"If you really feel like Verda's husband, you should be by Verda's side, accompanying her and protecting her! Not just letting it go to such a wretch like this!"
"If you are bored, tired, and want to stop playing with Verda, please return Verda to the state you took Verda from me!"
Vedra slumped, resting on his knees in front of Mr. Daus.
"Sir Daus, it doesn't matter if you don't forgive me. But at least give me a chance to do what I can for Verda! I beg!" pinta Vedras.
"Verda is my wife, I have an obligation to accompany her under any circumstances. I don't want you to think I'm just a guy who just wants to have fun with Verda! I'm not that kind of man!"
Mr. Daus heaved a heavy sigh looking at the kneeling Vedra and pleaded with him greatly. Mr. Daus' current feelings are really mixed. There was anger, annoyance, annoyance, sadness, and also pity that ravaged his heart.
A truly wounded parent's heart sees his child as having to die, fighting to stay alive.
"Well, come on, all the decisions are in Verda's hands! If Verda wakes up and chooses to forgive you, I will accept it. But if you don't, you have to accept the consequences" Mr. Daus said.
Vedra was stunned to hear the gamble Mr. Daus gave. But for Vedra this is an opportunity that he must take to make amends against Verda.
"Thank you, Mr. Daus! Thank you!" Vedra is deep.
Mr. Daus left Vedra who began to shed tears because he felt a deep feeling of regret.
It's her fault for letting Verda just walk away. It's his fault for not being able to take good care of Verda.
It's his fault and Vedra has to make amends.
