LOVE THE EXPATRIATE
32. Overdose (2)

Edward grabbed his smartphone that he had placed in his agenda book. Mikaila was asleep, he thought. He wanted to call the woman and apologize for all the rude remarks. Edward felt he wasn't. He was just upset at the woman for calling him at the wrong time.

No new calls from Mikaila or from any other number. Just a few message notifications, and one of them was from that woman. Edward had suspected that the contents of the message were in the form of a slur for him. The man will accept if Mikaila is angry with him.

Forgive me for not being able to be the moon that lights your way. But I think you've found your hope, so you no longer need this month of ever-diminishing light. I love you, Ed, perhaps more than someone who has been diverting your world all this time. But when you read this message, maybe I have…

Edward stared back at the unfinished message. The message was sent at 22.12 WIB. It was shortly after he disconnected the woman's call. He saw the time on his smartphone, that means it was almost an hour ago. There was no response when Edward called back the number that was still active. The man guessed, did Mikaila fall asleep? What exactly does he want to convey through the interrupted message? Or maybe the woman wants to…?

Edward jumped out of his seat!

Suddenly it felt like a daydream. With lightning fast the man jumped up, exited the meeting room and immediately ran towards the elevator. Adrian and some of the employees still living in the office looked surprised to see his boss running in panic. Adrian chases after him, but his assistant does not find Edward because the elevator door is closed.

Edward drove his car like a car. Fortunately, it was almost midnight so the passing vehicles were not too crowded. Still trying to call the woman, but the result is nil! The number is still active but still no response.

“Thanks Mikaila!” shouted Edward. If anything happens to you, I will not forgive myself, the man said in his heart.

The man parked his car at the apartment once he reached the Grand Kaharu Residence. Before entering the elevator, he hurriedly told the security guard at the lobby door that his friend who lived on the 14th floor seemed to be experiencing danger in his apartment and he needed help.

The elevator that brought him up Edward felt his movements so slow. The display of the numbers listed on the monitor is like a very long change. And once the number turned 14, he pressed the exit button impatiently. The man rushed out as soon as the elevator door opened and ran towards Mikaila's apartment.

Edward rang the bell many times, banged on the door, kicked the door, shouted his name, but still the door of the apartment was not open. Mikaila never came out of her apartment. As a result of his actions, the entire floor was made rowdy by a safety system alarm that detected a break-in at door 254. Some of the residents of the apartment next door came out to see what was happening. Edward sat leaning against the wall limply. Now he only regretted why he had refused when offered a second id card of this apartment by Mikaila.

The security officer finally arrived.

Edward rushed in as soon as the door was opened by one of the officers. The man went straight to the room and found Mikaila in a terrible state. The woman fell limp in a slanted position. His eyes were half closed with the remains of tears flowing down his cheeks. There was a frothy white liquid melted from the corner of his slightly opened lips.

Edward slammed into Mikaila's limp body. He was crying but he didn't hear a bit of stuffing. The only sign of sadness that could be seen from the man was his teary eyes from the puddles of tears.

“Mikaila! I'm sorry, Mikaila!” he hugged the woman.

The officers entered the room.

“Mikaila! I'm sorry to say that, Mikaila!”

“We'd better get the victim to the hospital, sir! It might still be helped!” said an officer while pulling Edward's shoulder to release his grip on Mikaila.

“There's still a heartbeat!” another officer examined the woman's chest. There was a trace of hope in Edward's face when he heard the officer's report.

“Come ready an ambulance and send a gurney to the 14th floor of D!” exclaim the officer again from his handy talky.

Officers immediately removed Mikaila's body and pushed her into the emergency room. Edward followed as he looked at the pale woman's face.

With a chaotic feeling he looked at the body on top of the gurney that was pushed by medics into the emergency room. Edward was sitting in the waiting chair.

O God, save the woman, the man prayed in his heart. He looked down sluggishly while cupping his hands in his head. Edward did not realize that his appearance was currently very messy. His face was haggard, his hair disheveled, and his white shirt whose arms were pulled up to elbows looked extremely shabby. Edward also untied his neck tie.

The man put his tie on the bench because the smartphone in his pants pocket suddenly creaked. Adrian called. Edward only realized that it turned out to be a call from his assistant the umpteenth time since he left the office.

“Assallamualaikum.” said.

“Wa’alaikusallam. Hello, Mr. Edward. Are you okay? Why did you look so rushed?”

“I'm fine Adrian. My friend was poisoned in her apartment. But this has been taken to the hospital" said Edward squeezing his hair.

"Which hospital, sir?"

"This is me at Enggal Waras Hospital.”

“Ouh, I'm sorry. Can your friend still be helped, Mister?”

“Doctors are handling it in the emergency room. I really hope he can be helped.”

“Yes we pray together. Oh yes, it looks like master hasn't eaten since this afternoon. Will I bring food there?”

Edward just remembered that he hadn't had dinner. The food ration that was delivered by the office boy to his desk has not been opened.

“Not necessary, Adrian. My appetite was gone because of the incident. But thank you for watching me.”

“Sama-sama, Sir. But do not forget to rest so as not to get sick. Good night, Mr.”

“Thank you, Adrian. Good night.”

Tut. tut's.

Edward just remembered that he had not performed the prayer isya. He saw the watch in his hand, the time was almost 12 p.m. He went to find where the mushola was.

The coolness of his heart and mind was so cold that the tap water washed his face and hair. The man performed the Isya prayer with khusuk. Not to forget he also prayed for the safety of Mikaila's life. However, it also contributed to the cause of the woman to act recklessly.
