I'm Not the Hands of the Devil
Chapter 16: I Am Not the Feet of the Devil

“Rest? Do I look useless?” Joseph scoffed. However, his knight sigil “Justice” did not feel any malicious intent from the owner of this bookstore, thus giving the old knight a better impression of this young man.

Joseph's indifference even began to melt and subconsciously, he felt a rare tendency to chat with the bookstore owner who spoke to him casually and equally.

Perhaps after he became a Great Radiant Knight, it had been too long since someone dared to talk to him casually.

Since the bookstore owner was an ordinary person who was unaware of the facts, Joseph did not need to pretend to be a superior or senior.

Lin Jie shook his head and replied sincerely. “Of course not! It's just that the gloomy weather of late will affect one's joints. Do you have trouble sleeping? Your face looks a little pale and I can't help feeling that you're a bit tired.”

Rheumatism and insomnia may be more common in older people at this age. Moreover, Lin Jie had noticed that Joseph's right hand was somewhat thunderous.

One's soul fatigue might not be very noticeable, but Lin Jie was proficient at observing people and could realize it without much difficulty.

“May I assume it's because you spent a lot of effort in trying to find Mr Wilde?” Lin Jie sighed with lamentation. “I'm so glad you guys have a great friendship.”

Joseph's mechanical right hand covered with a layer of synthetic leather twitched as doubt crept into his eyes.

How this owner. No, it must be a coincidence.

But why did the words 'joint', 'sleep', and 'Wilde' put together seem significant, as if she was showing something? And he said 'great friendship' seems a bit strange?

Still, it was Joseph who said that he was Wilde's best friend from the very beginning.

With a slightly complicated expression, Joseph said, “I am not a parent whose joints will hurt when it rains.I am also not tired because of this. I didn't bring any money.”

Lin Jie pulled the bench and sat down as he watched Joseph ramble.

Deep down, Lin Jie shook her head. He knew right away that Joseph might appear rough on the outside but warm and gentle on the inside.

Lin Jie pushed the hot tea cup towards Joseph and said, “It costs nothing to read the book in my store but it was only limited to the part behind me. Drink tea to warm yourself first. ”

“I can help convey a message to Mr Wilde that you are looking for him.”

Joseph took a sip but was not used to the taste of these tea leaves. Frowning, he shook his head. “No need. I'll go after a short rest.”

By the time he frowned, the pain in his head started to throb once more.

Shit, it's getting more and more frequent.

Joseph held it in, sliding the bench under him a little. As the corner of the seat and his attention shifted, he saw the book Lin Jie had placed beside him.

Joseph's eyes suddenly narrowed.

Hell Seed?

“I happen to be reading this very soothing children's story. It's so soothing to the soul. Maybe you want to try it? I feel reading it before bed really helps relieve stress.” Lin Jie casually continued the conversation.

According to her literature and language teacher in high school, the harder a man looks, the more likely he is to be a gentle girl of his heart.

Lin Jie strongly believed this without a doubt.

The person before him right now was a sensitive and gentle being who constantly held on to that friendship. Therefore, Lin Jie was ninety percent sure that this old man belonged to such a category.

“Kids stories?” Joseph made a noise between ridicule and laughter. “That funny and childish stuff. Young man, you are not a child anymore, why do you like to read such a book? ”

“Well, it was the best kids' story I've read and it's the only copy in Norzin.” Lin Jie regretfully withdrew his hand that was holding the Little Prince. “Sweetest..”.

Joseph pursed his lips and pointed to the book in Lin Jie's hands. “You mean this book? A children's story? Are you sure?”

What kind of child is called Seed of the Abyss? Is this a children's story about a wild beast from dreamland?

Lin Jie nodded with a hint of confusion. “Of course! This is a very good children's book, an absolute classic.”

Joseph inevitably suspected something was wrong, but he had yet to sense any changes to the ether flow.

However, he now had the desire to find out why children's stories had such titles.

“Send.” Finally, Joseph expressionlessly stuck out his hand and leaned inward. “I'll just look at it casually, assume it meets your wishes.”

Joseph pretended to casually browse the cover and its title—Seed of the Abyss.

Can..could this be called a children's bedtime story?

As he took the book into his outstretched hand, Joseph suddenly felt dizzy.

The acute pain in his mind that he was trying to suppress very hard increased rapidly. The shadow blurred his gaze and a soft mutter rang out in his ears.

Strange sensations began from the bottom of his spine, before seemingly swallowing his entire soul and sweeping away his pain.

Joseph began to lose his balance.

“!”

This relentless sensation was too familiar!

The Demon Sword Candela! Why does it seem to resonate with something …

Why at this time?

Wait a minute, did this fellow mean to be like this when he said 'bedtime'?

Could this be a trap?

The voice of the bookstore owner faded into the distance as Joseph lost consciousness at this moment, and fell to the ground.

“Hey, hey! Hiya! Uncle!”

“Uncle, are you okay!”

“Hey, hey hey! Are you okay!”

Lin Jie's expression changed as he flipped himself on the table quickly and went to support his uncle.

Don't tell me.. He had a stroke?

This uncle was slightly older in age but his physique still looked healthy and not like a human.

But he's old anyway…

I have to save him first!

However, after using all his strength to lay Joseph on the floor, Lin Jie realized that this uncle's breathing and heartbeat were stable.

It didn't seem like any strange illness, but it was more like a deep sleep.

“He's okay?”

Only

Slightly hesitant, Lin Jie reached out to Joseph's wrist and used his finger to read the pulse.

As a scholar of folklore studies, it was normal for Lin Jie to know some basic pulse reading skills.

Lin Jie frowned and put down Joseph's wrist. “Uncle, you really fit. This pulse was even stronger than mine during my lifetime, ” complained Lin Jie.

Why did you suddenly faint?

It should have nothing to do with this book, right?!

In this world, one would not faint just looking at the Little Prince, even if it was the last thing he did before fainting was to pick up the book, Lin Jie thought to himself.

That must be unrelated. This is The Little Prince, a soothing children's bedtime story that calms the heart after finishing it and not something that causes a heart attack!

But since this uncle had fainted, Lin Jie could only sigh and temporarily help him rest comfortably. He would investigate more when his uncle woke up.
